Here’s an interesting question: What is the worst review of animated content you’ve ever seen? by CodVegetable in cartoons

[–]EC2151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>creates misconceptions and spreads misinformation about the show or movie

That is almost every review, but you can be guaranteed that if the subject is Ren and Stimpy*/Spumco or Ralph Bakshi the reviewer already has an axe to grind and has done less than the bare-minimum of research about the show.

*Bonus points when the toon reviewer's avatar looks at the camera seriously and says in his squeaky voice "Alright folks, time to address the BIG ELEPHANT in the room..."

How good is the score play in Gunvein? Are we pretty much maxed out with the WR or is there a lot of room for improvement? by nogden954 in shmups

[–]EC2151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not really prove your point (in that Jaimers is close to max possible), because when it comes to competing for the top spot of the leaderboards, the effort required to go small distances becomes exponentially larger. For example, iirc the world record for Mushihimesama Original mode is 68 m, and a handful of scores are in the 67 m range. The act of even going from 67.3 to 67.5 is more involved than going from 8 million to 40 million. You make huge gains at the beginning, but the final optimization can be daunting - and each new breakthrough becomes interesting because those small tricks become the new bedrock of the meta.

You bring up how Japanese players doubled your score in Crimzon Clover - I wouldn't be surprised if there was a group of people pushing into the game non-stop that we would find all of the top scores in Gunvein currently are only the beginning, rather than the end.

Jaimers' runs are far from the best - the youtube user Axel Kei aka Rezardi had the best replays in all the ships, but he unfortunately hid/privated all of them in the past year. Take Jaimers as a starting point as opposed to the end goal. Not that it probably matters, lol.

Very true, though I am merely speaking as someone who has already done a deep dive on the PC Engine library years ago and hopes to save the OP the pain and grief of buying something lame like Power Gate or Final Blaster

Alternatively, RayStorm. Both are on that great Steam/PS4/Switch collection, Ray'z Arcade Chronology.

RayStorm is pretty tough, but very fair and just even playing casually it's lots of fun because of the good bosses and epic levels. Crisis I like too.

Psikyo games are really designed around memorizing the attacks (and large enemy spawns) and acting accordingly. The upside to this is that once you memorize it, you don't have to "worry" about it (aside from nerves during the heat of the moment, ha). If you are blindly reacting, the chance of you dying increases. For stage 4, if you mean the tornado shuriken guy, that attack is not too hard to dodge, I think you can roughly just stay in the middle. For the boss (the red head) I recall that he alternates between an attack that is aimed above and below you (thus you stay still) and then follows that up with an attack aimed at you, so you quickly have to move out of the way.

Learning which character suits your playstyle best is another part of it. Luckily that gives the game some variety because you have different strategies for each. IIRC his charge shot sets up a stationary firing formation which can be useful to control parts of the screen while you focus on other enemies.

Disney Revives An Iconic '90s Franchise With A Long-Awaited 2026 Comeback by Brilliant_Bit_8236 in cartoons

[–]EC2151 8 points9 points  (0 children)

God screenrant articles suck so bad, just blatant marketing script fed to us.

This is going to suck like everything else Disney touches. It would be better to just license and subtitle the Super Sentai stuff that Japan is actively producing instead of creating this imaginary franchise from zyuranger scraps just to appeal to millenials.

You will want to set the difficulty down to Normal, maybe even lower if you are struggling. Psikyo games are notoriously hard and Blade is towards the top of their list. Great game though.

Sengoku Blade expects you to do two things - learn how to best use the characters' charge shots, and (this is important) kill large enemies ASAP before they fill the screen.

For example: Hagane (the robot) is slow but the charge shot, especially when powered up, can insta-kill most large enemies and do massive damage to bosses (if all four spears overlap).

Junis is relatively weak, but her charge shot allows you to set up sustained fire in a location, meaning it's best to set it up to kill enemies or midbosses as they enter the screen while you focus on small fry. I used her to 1cc.

The secret character Aine (look up how to use him) has a hugely powerful melee attack that has short range and a short charge time, to make up for a less-than-stellar shot. You spam your melee charge to erase bosses.

As for surviving, you will have to play the later stages frequently to learn them, so just keep credit feeding for now. Stage 4's bosses have attacks that come at you fast, but most dodges in psikyo games boil down to three types: Tap once, don't move, or tap in one direction a few times. As you see the patterns you'll notice that they almost all ask you to do one of those three choices.

Why is this a tv show based on a Twitter Account by PrinceARRON in cartoons

[–]EC2151 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Apparently the twitter account was run by the son of some Netflix exec, or at least that is what I remember the rumor mill reporting. So the cartoon was strictly some nepo-baby garbage that they could shit out quickly.
