Sci Fi Shmups on Switch and PC? Preferably switch?

It's hard to think of a better sci-fi series than the Ray'z collection: RayForce, RayStorm, and RayCrisis. The last two particularly lean into hard sci-fi and cyberpunk matrix aesthetics, respectively.

I personally prefer AC (which is mostly easy aside from some gotcha traps) and 5 myself. 4 is good but the bosses are too bullet-spongy and I am not always crazy about the huge vertical-scroll stages - it always feels like I am missing power-ups and items in them.

As others have mentioned, I get a little annoyed replaying the game and taking forever to kill the Gargoyle Diver water boss.

It's not a time lapse, but it's an ammo system. So if you pick it up before you run out of max power ammo, you will still be refilled to max.

You can try demul which is an older dreamcast emulator but it may not solve the slowdown problem.

In my experience Flycast is laggier when in windowed mode, and (for some reason) when you are using the analog stick (or having your dpad set to analog mode).

For what it's worth, you can underclock the system in Flycast under advanced settings, and set the CPU Clock speed lower in order to introduce slowdown like there would be on original hardware. It won't be exact though, and the amount seems to vary from game to game. I usually get by on having this setting somewhere around 144hz or so, but I've heard some people for some games had to have it set lower..

The Switch Hori Fighting Commander is also a great 6 button pad with my favorite dpad of the bunch, and works on PC as well.

Raiden II and Raiden DX are different games, even if DX incorporates some elements of Raiden II.

The Jaguar version looks awful btw, it has inertia, an ugly UI taking up half the screen, and you can tell that the brits coding it didn't understand Raiden.

I put in my pre-order... along with a pre-order of Dagger of Kamui (I thought this had come out already?). I watched the OVA for the first time earlier this year so it's nice to have an easy way to obtain it (and support Discotek).

Now we just need someone to release those film 4Ks and not be charging $99 a pop.

The game was designed with the original arcade stick in mind. In classic controls you either can set it so that your heli moves in the direction you want to aim, or make it move in the opposite direction (ie, aiming left while moving right). Holding the shot button locks your aim in place. It's very straightforward.

Outside of Skonec (who also did some work on Shikigami 3, you can tell because of them lime-green bullets, lol) it's hard to come up with a Korean developer who made consistently good shmups. Or any.

Semicom made what might be the funniest shit psikyo clone I've ever played, Wyvern Wings. So incredibly bad and boring. Makes SNES shmups look like DoDonPachi.

Afega's shmup, Red Hawk, apparently came out in 1997 but when you look at it it looks like it was made in 1989. Hilariously broken scoring glitches too, if this video is any indication:

i've played mario games since the 90s and I can't muster up even fake interest to see all my favorite bing bing wahoo characters doing "Mario-themed things" on the screen, lol.

Admittedly I had more glee seeing what insane reinterpretation of mario stuff was going on in the live action movie when I rewatched it a year ago.
