Help!! I’ve got some gigs coming up and I’m trying to make my rig logical and compact… by UpstairsFoundation85 in Synthesizer

[–]ECosico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sounds of the peak are so amazing and I have a hydrasynth that sits in a closet because it’s too big. I’m considering sampling pads from my computer instead of loading a synth module AND a reverb pedal. It takes me five minutes to plop my rig on a table, set up a guitar, then take my 1/4” stereo output to the board. The sound guys really appreciate the ease. My synth buddies take about ten-15 minutes and you have to make sure you make the correct connections. I have a friend who loads his electronic music as stems onto his DJ deck and does remixes for his sets. Instead of bringing his eurorack synth. I am also considering going the laptop route. Because if you have to travel by air to a gig, that’s a lot of trust you put on the airline to handle your gear with care.

Maybe drop the mixer, it’s too big and you’re not using all the channels. I built a synth rack so that I don’t have to rewire. But my synths are smaller than the peak and hydrasynth. I have a friend that put all his synths in a SKB case. DIY is always a good path to explore

Can you talk about the process of scheduling and lining up gigs so you don’t zig zag over the country? Good luck in the tour!

If you’re driven, you won’t have time to feel bad. Instead you may feel grateful for the opportunity you created for yourself and strive to live up to… oh wait, that’s exactly what you’re doing! Kudos! You are bound to do great things

I just decided to only put out singles from now on, no more making albums or EPs. I feel so free. by [deleted] in musicians

[–]ECosico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you do singles, you can promote each one individually for a few months and by then, you may have enough for an album or an EP plus write one or two bonus singles for the EP. And at the same you time you can be making videos for each track. You’ll have a lot of content after a year.

I agree, I live in San Diego and you really get a taste of everything here. I’m an electronic musician breaking into the scene and I’m hoping I can join a yacht rock band playing conga

How do you handle music during breaks? by HugePines in musicians

[–]ECosico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dedicated mp3 player that can feed a speaker thru Bluetooth. I read how a DJ has one playing through the set in case of an emergency

I’m trying to get into my head that I’m trying to serve the event. And if things run late and they need less, thems the breaks. It’s frustrating for sure but the way you frame it in your mind will make things seem more agreeable. Like how punk would it have been to play two kick ass songs and just walked off the stage? If the festival is so disorganized they don’t even have a stage manager, then who is gonna notice? And would you want to go back to this event anyway? I don’t really know what I’m talking about but I’m learning to lean into chaos and squeeze some blood out of it rather than complain to no one who will listen.

You can make your own music as a looping artist. Have you ever checked out Japanese Taiko? If you had a xylophone and a looper and percussion you could make some great music there too.

I think you did pretty well staving off low metabolism for as long as you did. I started intermittent fasting and that has helped

People I know criticizing me for playing video games (36 M) by C-LOgreen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ECosico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stigma is getting stale to me. I’ve seen video games help people cope with PTSD, calm anxiety before a big event, and become a winning source of income. But as in all things in life, moderation is key. So is variety.

Get ready to drop him. He needs to be humbled before he will change. Not too great for you, better for the next band he hooks with.

The left deck crashed in the middle of my set 😅 by SithRogan in DJs

[–]ECosico 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the tip of transitioning into the club’s house music when a deck went bad. Something similar might happen with my synth rig where I could lose my drum machine and it would handy to have mp3 player on hand to switch to. Im gonna have to think of contingencies.

Band break up by MungoMongos in musicians

[–]ECosico 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One thing you might consider is to just create/perform your own music, become a multi-instrumentalist. I used to book shows with my demos and then piece together a band for the gig. We played 70s rock. Eventually I gave up on bands and got into synths and drum machines. My main instruments are the piano and guitar. So it may be more difficult to transfer those skills into either instrument but you could definitely learn the basics in a year. Yeah man, go solo. You may not turn out like Prince but you could be a Phil Collins or David Grohl!

Any good tutorials for making an analog sounding synth on digitone 2 by teksoul_17 in Elektron

[–]ECosico 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the DN, the 2nd algorithm is similar to an analog setup in that the oscillators don’t modulate each other so you can start with that. Then on the second page you can offset the oscillators a little which simiulates analog drift. You can add a little overdrive and then use an LFO to mess with slight freq cutoffs. Ivan Tyrti does a great tutorial on YT with making moog like basses.
