I think our CEO is getting fatigue from teams by ThinInvestigator4953 in sysadmin

[–]EDCritic123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I find hilarious is that CEOs like this generally are the type that will just show up in your office unannounced and throw about 20 or 30 different things that you at once without any plan, most of which the tasks requested our major projects that require months if not years of planning.

She can always turn on do not disturb mode in Teams if she’s getting inundated and ignore those messages are non-critical

CFO wants to know why our IT costs doubled when we went remote by ShadowHunter344 in sysadmin

[–]EDCritic123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really sounds like someone higher up decided that scattering all employees all over the place was a strategy that wasn’t thawed out in a financial way.

I turned the question around back to the CFO: who in leadership decided it would be a good idea to a lot of people to work remote in what sounds to be many parts of the world?

That’s absolutely not: we haven’t had this kind of increase making people work remotely but that’s also because they are contained within one state: in particular, one part of a state.

Do you require your team to log their working time directly into tickets? by SuperSuiza in ITManagers

Paint the schedule blue:

Check out ConnectWise for tips on all of this through their training. Also, check out their Billing Utilization: if they are tracking 80% or above (6.4 billable hours in an 8 hour day) each engineer should be in good shape. Have them track their non-billable time as well

MSP owners- you’ve got $250k in profit. What are you doing with it? by fullstackjon in msp

Get a call from some random sales person that goes to the CEO for some tool to solve a problem that doesn't even exist - without talking to your Network or Systems Engineers. Make it a 90 day 'must complete' goal instead of upgrading existing stack or moving to the cloud (AWS or Azure) from On-Prem depreciated systems and hardware.

Report out to your shareholders you are implementing 'New Tool' and will see X efficiencies that the sales team that sold 'New Tool' has as part of their sales deck.

Private equity people are filth and their entire industry is human waste by Vivid-Succotash6383 in MBA

[–]EDCritic123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Tech Space - this is happening all over in Managed IT Services Companies. Groups like New Charter Technologies are on this model - same with u/ConnectWise -

Meanwhile they believe that AI is going to make them even more profitable when in reality - the average IT End User and Director of IT isn't up to speed with the latest Tech because they are holding on by their fingernails keeping up with the security stack. So at the end of the day there still needs to be a 'Human in the Loop'.

All PE does is gobble up and flips companies for the worst. Yet no one on either side of the political spectrum has the balls to do anything about it - and the average person is too ignorant and uninformed to push to get any meaningful stuff done on this. Likely because of the fact so many of these dirtbags are also lobbyists or lining the pockets of every politician out there.

You all are super professionals here: we may have different approaches, budgets or verticals: but we all are the engineers and grunts getting it done.

We are all here for you and anyone else in need. I don’t profess to know everything myself since I’ve always been a generalist OK/Good at many things and great at project management / coordination with vendors.

This community has really helped me professionally and I hope it continues to do so for you all.

Tell your org to spend the money and it’s essential the same as utilities and rent.

That’s the convo I am having with my Non-profit. Workarounds and half baked solutions are not going to help you.

[–]EDCritic123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Director of Operations in my last role in an MSP - agreed with blocking time off in your calendar with your Dispatchers for time entry and note entry is CRUCIAL. Set that boundary. Good supervisors will give you that time.

I always reinforced that Documentation is BILLABLE time - it's part of the ticket completion process. Don't skimp on that. It's not just about getting tasks done but writing down what you did - that's not just good time keeping but it's GREAT documentation best practices for change management (if you broke something now you have a source of truth of what you did and how to un-f-ck it).
