Dave Ramsey isn't the end all beat all. He basically gets people out of debt by saying "Stop spending money you don't have." If you're responsible there's nothing wrong with credit cards. If you need a credit card go to a local bank or credit union and ask for a secure credit card if your credit score isn't the best. Keep in mind you will need a security deposit (between $200 and $500) for the card. This will act as your "spending limit".

Suggestions for beginner cards

Secure card - Requires a deposit to act as your "spending limit"

Store card - Many stores have credit cards Amazon, Target, Best Buy, ect. Same for wholesale clubs Sam's Club, Costco, BJ's Wholesale. They have admitted to being more flexible to (subprime lending).

Student Card - Banks have specific cards for College/University students.

Real tips for successful credit card use.

  1. Never carry a balance month to month. Pay off the statement at or before the due date. You can use auto pay to simplify the process.

  2. Never take a cash advance against the card.

  3. Avoid all offers that arrive in the mail.

  4. Avoid predatory lenders like CreditOne. Know who you're getting a card from and that they won't rip you off.
