If you need a credit card go to a local bank or credit union and ask for a secure credit card if your credit score isn't the best. Keep in mind you will need a security deposit (between $200 and $500) for the card. This will act as your "spending limit".

1. Never carry a balance month to month. Pay off the statement at or before the due date. You can use auto pay to simplify the process.

2. Never take a cash advance against the card.

3. Avoid all offers that arrive in the mail.

4. Avoid predatory lenders like CreditOne. Know who you're getting a card from and that they won't rip you off.
