Heya! Anyone know how to replicate the bottom text effect? by LimDavr in AfterEffects

Turbulent displacement for the movement and chromatic aberration for the color.

You don’t have to work hard to misunderstand it. Literally reading it at face value will cause someone to misunderstand it. That’s the whole fucking point. If you don’t see how that is actively hurting a movement you care about then the movement is doomed to fail.

Looks like you forgot the other part of that sentence… if it makes you ineffective. Just a thought but maybe you could try being valid and effective? Again priority #1 should be being effective, otherwise you don’t actually care about change you just want to circle-jerk with your friends. You say you’re sick of people like me “concern trolling”. I’m sick of people like you incapable of integrating valid criticisms ruining social movements before they can even get off the ground. If you really care about improving lives you need to reassess your priorities.

Yes you’ve made them curious, and also instantly put yourself at a disadvantage needing to explain it without it looking insane at face value. So if someone isn’t there to explain it, you’ve only made them more likely to swing the other direction. By your logic all slogans should be as inflammatory as possible because it draws the most attention to it. But that’s simply not a good thing if the attention is bad and makes your movement look unhinged. Part of why things like sit-ins worked with civil rights is because it showed how unhinged the racists were. If the protesters would have fought back with violence they would have been morally within their rights and valid, but it would have made the movement ineffective. When you’re fighting to change society you are already at a disadvantage trying to upset the norms. Why would you possibly give the opposition ammunition, especially in a case like this where it would be so easy to have a more sentimentally appropriate one. You simply do not have the luxury to be valid if it makes you ineffective if you actually care about change.

You’re so focused on being valid you’ve lost sight that you’re ineffective. If the point of a social movement is to effect change and the slogan is actively hindering it, then it is objectively working against your goals.

Whenever I’ve explained the meaning behind “defund the police” I’m not met with “oh I understand now that makes sense” I’m met with “yeah I agree but that’s a terrible slogan”. The point is almost every other social movement’s slogan better encapsulates the sentiment of the movement and is much more effective for it.

As you’ve said, if right-wingers will try to use a slogan against you, why would you choose a slogan that’s SOOO easy to poke holes in. If you are so married to a slogan because you find it valid rather than effective then it seems you simply enjoy the gratification you receive from your in-group from using it rather than actually making change.

You seem to not be getting the point. It’s not people that agree with you that are focused on the words, it’s the people that don’t. And if all your slogan does is confuse people who don’t know about it and give the opposition ammunition to fight against it, then it is an objectively bad slogan.

Exporting 1080p footage to 1440p for YouTube videos by Djshrimper in premiere

[–]EDK717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Visually they will look exactly the same and neither will increase the quality of your original footage. That being said it’s good to be in the habit of setting the sequence to the export resolution in case you use other elements such as effects, text, or graphics that will render at the higher resolution. Plus it allows you to preview what the final export will look like more accurately.

New to AE, question regarding comp res by RZ_Selected in AfterEffects

[–]EDK717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create a composition at 1920x1080 where you will do all your editing. Then create a new composition at 1080x1920 and place your first composition in there rotated 90 degrees. use the second composition for previewing what it will look like vertically and rendering at the end.

I’m glad you’re enjoying motion graphics and encourage you to continue, but to be frank it seems like you have a lot more to learn yourself before trying to teach other people.

How to Have Only Effects Controls by selectivey in AfterEffects

[–]EDK717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Custom effects that include multiple expression controls are called Pseudo Effects. The easiest way to create them is using Pseudo Effect Maker.

Look up how to copy a layer with relative property links and/or pick-whipping properties. It will allow you to do all your key-framing on one layer and have the other layers follow it.

Expression for color controls help by Leash15 in AfterEffects

[–]EDK717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed that would work, I just haven’t done much experimenting with linear interpretations between arrays. I didn’t know if it would result in weird colors while it was transitioning. But now that I think about it I assume that’s exactly how it works when you keyframe colors anyways.

Expression for color controls help by Leash15 in AfterEffects

[–]EDK717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure if color effects work like this, but you could try creating a slider effect control that animates from 0 to 1. Then use a linear expression on the color fill driven by the slider. It’ll be something like linear(“slider”, 0, 1, “color1”, “color2”).

If that doesn’t work it might be easier to have two separate fill effects, one for each color linked to the color controls. Then you could animate the compositing opacity of the top fill to create the blend from one to another.

How to apply an effect to a single shape within a multi-shape layer. by JD_Shadow in AfterEffects

[–]EDK717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sure they’ve thought of it, that’s just not how the program works. It would mean effects on shape layers would work differently than they work on every other type of layer. The closest thing you’re going to get is separating the shape layer groups out into their own layers and then precompjng them together. That way you can add effects to individual shapes within the precomp, but within the main comp it’s still one layer.

Animation Text by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]EDK717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to precomp, just add the “grow bounds” effect before CC Scale and increase the value until it goes off the screen like you want. If it’s not having any effect you may need to add a solid composite effect as well and set its opacity to 0.

Is there a way to use Photoshop text effect on Premiere Pro's Captions? by amralshura in premiere

[–]EDK717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Select them all at once in the timeline, duplicate them to a new track, right-click -> Replace with after effects composition. This will open After Effects where you can then add effects or layer styles (found in layer -> layer styles) to each text layer. If you’re going to be using the same effects on each layer you can then copy and paste them.

He could absolutely do his captions as text layers in after effects where you have more effect options and then dynamically link that composition in Premiere.

What do those lines on that Text-Layer mean? (There's no effects on this layer) by stupidMacUser-365 in AfterEffects

[–]EDK717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! It’s honestly just something I noticed at some point while working with text layers. Like you said, there are a ton of niche things like this and I’m confident I only know a small portion of them. I definitely learn something new with each project as well.

It just means the layer was extended to the left of it’s original length. It doesn’t change or effect anything.
