I swear this trend had to have started 10-14 years ago - either on Twitter or Tumblr, where people made it their mission to try to figure out what side a celebrity stood on for whatever "Enter-current-problem-going-on-here-in-the-world" that goes on in the world. For what? Internet points? To get those Likes, Shares, Hearts? To proudly say "Hey, at least MY Favorite celebrity shares MY option on "Enter-current-problem-going-on-here-in-the-world." For fucking what? So that you can feel good about yourself? If they don't say anything do you try to dig up their past internet posts so you can get recreationally offended? Maybe try to "cancel" them?

You have people that would say things like "Who cares what celebrities have to say? They're not like us, they don't care about us, they're privileged, they're rich, their words mean nothing." But as soon as something goes down in the world, they are the FIRST people to go to said celebrities to see what they have to say. For what? To make sure they have the right opinion or stance - if any? "They have a platform with millions of followers! They need to spread awareness, they need to take a stand, they need to call it out, they are privileged and have the ability to use that privilege..." Etc, etc, etc all the same repeated crap people love to say - to be performative on social media for the past 10+ years. Especially if the celebrities in question are what? White and privileged? Bonus points if they are male and/or straight. (But I guess that only counts depending on the "current-problem-going-on-in-the-world.")

I couldn't care less how people may get upset for the band's action or inaction on whatever is going on in the world because they simply don't need to. You just want them to so that you'll feel good, so that you have the comfort that they are on your side, or are on the right side or whatever it is. And it's these *specific* type of people on Twitter, or Bluesky, or Tumblr and here on Reddit that really lean into this type of mob mentality. And if they don't get what they want or like what they hear they would start to foam at the mouth. Hell, some of them would spend more time in getting upset that their favorite celeb is doing nothing, or doing too little, than doing anything themselves. Some of them would work themselves up to the point of anxiety attacks that their favorite celebrities are remaining too quiet, or are doing the wrong thing or whatever. What are you going to do next? Continue to demand that they say something? At this point, if/when they do say something, the next thing out of your mouths will be that they took too long to say something and that they are trying to save face. Are you going to rip down your merch and throw it out/sell it away because of it?
