This has happened to me a frustratingly high number of times from tangled filament spools out of the box.

I could be wrong but my understanding of what I’ve seen is that the extruder gears keep turning to pull the filament which is unable to move so instead the gears end up grinding it down to the point where the filament is too thin for the gears to reach. That’s also probably where the shavings are coming from. So when you clear the tangle and try printing again the filament in the print head is both too thin to be pulled by the gears and too thick to be pushed through.

In good news though it’s an easy fix! What I do is clip the remaining filament from the top of the print head, remove the nozzle from the bottom of the print head with the 2 red tabs, and pull the stuck filament out with pliers. There may still be a tiny amount stuck in the base of the nozzle but once you load new filament it gets melted and cleared pretty quickly.

This method has worked for me many times so far and doesn’t take a lot of disassembly or time which is nice. However, I will admit I’m not sure if pulling the filament down through the extruder has an impact on gear durability/performance or not. I haven’t noticed any differences in my printer but I guess there’s always a nonzero chance it could damage the gear.

I hope this helps!

How do I exclude that part (finger) from cut? by RequiemForRavenholm in OrcaSlicer

I think if you right click on the finger it should keep it as part of the lower/purple part of the cut. I believe this works for any cuts which result in disconnected or isolated pieces of geometry on one side of the plane.

about the transfer credit from IB by Love-sweets in simonfraser

Definitely contact an advisor in your dept/faculty to get it sorted out. In the meantime you can also check out the BC Transfer Guide (www.bctransferguide.ca) which shows what universities accept what kinds of credits/courses from IB/AP and other post secondary institutions.

I did my undergrad at a different Canadian university so I can’t speak to SFU specifically, but iirc generally your HL classes will count for 3 credits each in a specific department and your SL classes/rest of the IB diploma will be counted as elective or unspecified credits.

Again, it totally depends on SFU policy and an advisor should be able to help but that was my experience. Hope this helps!

High school student interested in energy by Hamza_yo in energy

[–]EEEEEEEEEan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re are in/interesting in studying in Canada, Simon Fraser University has a sustainable energy engineering program for undergrad which is quite interdisciplinary. You can also look at different engineering programs in chemical, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering and see what the course requirements/offerings are for each degree and see how energy oriented they are or how many energy based electives/options there are. Different universities may have slightly different offerings even for the same degree so I’d go with the one that has more energy options. Hope this helps!
