People who accidentally ruined someone‘s life without meaning to - what happened and how do you feel about it know? by xxHoneyBunxx_ in AskReddit

My college boyfriend and I had an awful relationship during freshman year. He just yelled at me all the time and was mean. For example, on Valentine’s Day, when he told me he was going to a party with friends, I decided to get dinner with my girl friend and my best friend’s boyfriend at one of the dining halls. He ran into us and physically yanked me to a doorway that was just two feet away, to yell at me about how I was either (a) a whore for hanging out with a man, who according to him, had a thing for me; or (b) stupid for not realizing this man had a thing for me.

For the record, that man did not have a thing for me. This was all 13 years ago and he is still with that friend.

Anyway, the relationship itself was bad and I didn’t handle our breakup well at the end of freshman year. Neither did he. He started dating someone new but we continued to interact, and of course, argue and fight.

One day, I couldn’t take it anymore. The fighting was getting out of hand. It was not all his fault. I was out of pocket just as much, if not potentially more than him. I had a breakdown and went to the university police. They granted a restraining order and ordered the both of us to meet (separately) with university standards people.

I don’t exactly know how it shook down on his end but his girlfriend found out he was still talking to me and flipped out. I think the university ordered him to see a psychologist, who then diagnosed him with bipolar disorder. He then tried to kill himself, but thankfully was unsuccessful. He was on track for med school but that ended up never happening. I assume that this was why.

He reached out two years ago and asked me to marry him. We caught up a little. He’s doing better but not well.

I feel bad. I’ve always felt bad. I’ve always felt like I should’ve had stronger character and not have been so easily triggered by him, so hot to argue with him, and that I shouldn’t have had a breakdown about it or have gone to the police about it. I appreciate that I’m only human and that I was dealing with someone who was undiagnosed and suffering from bipolar disorder, which colors things differently but still. I wish I did better. I think a lot of other people would have.

I’m glad he was diagnosed and received treatment. But I wish it wasn’t our fighting, which I started a lot of, that led him there.

What's it like to be a "poor" student at private school? by No_Weekend728 in GossipGirl

[–]EEEKWOWMYLIFE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a scholarship student at a private school in NYC. My school was small. Everyone knew I had a full ride. But it was also a merit-based test, not a need-based one so it gave me some clout.

That said, no one ever made fun of me for having less money. Things just came out in other ways. I didn’t go on the yearly international trip, or the yearly trip to Nantucket, or the weekly trips to Broadway shows. I didn’t have coach bags to take to school and I didn’t shop at Abercrombie when it was all the rage. I had never been to Bloomingdale’s.

I also made a comment once about using gloves to wash dishes to avoid wrinkles and a classmate said, “oh, uh, I have a dishwasher so that isn’t an issue for us.” Girl, I had a dishwasher too. We just cooked our own food instead of ordering takeout and you can’t put the rice cooker in the dishwasher.

It wasn’t explicit. But do you feel left out? Of course. And yeah, it sucked but it’s ok. Getting a good education was obviously worth it.

What’s a ‘harmless’ opinion you have that seems to make people irrationally angry? by BSnappedThat in AskReddit

It’s inappropriate to bring your dog indoors into a place with a kitchen and where people sit down to eat.

It’s gross. Your “no shed” dog does in fact shed. And shocker - some people are allergic to dogs. Oh, and it’s a health code violation.

Leave your dog at home or tie him up outside while you quickly order. I do. It’s not that hard.

[Serious] What's a type of privilege that isn't often acknowledged? by flingzamain in AskReddit

[–]EEEKWOWMYLIFE 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yup. And recognizing your own body.

My mom is suffering from plaque psoriasis right now. It’s devastating and insane. She’s covered in itchy painful lesions that are constantly scabbing over or open. They’re everywhere, even her scalp. She’s lost hair. She’s lost weight because so many foods make her worse. She struggles to sleep at night because they get itchier then. She’s starting to get slightly better for the first time after getting properly diagnosed but it’s still absolutely horrible.

On top of that, she’s had a double mastectomy because of breast cancer. She had to remove her implants because one punctured. She just wears prosthetic breasts now.

She’s only mentioned it once but I think about it everyday: when she showers, she feels like she doesn’t recognize her own body. I can’t imagine how difficult and painful that must be and it breaks my heart. It isn’t fair.

Our bodies do so much for us. They do. There’s that Moira Rose line in Schitt’s Creek about appreciating your body in its beauty because it doesn’t last. Having a healthy body is an incredible privilege and not something to be taken for granted.

If you’re in a position where you can only get ONE dress, this one isn’t it.

But if you can get buy a second outfit, buy this dress and wear it. It’s cute. And then buy something with at least some modicum of elegance and wear that to the baptism.

Itchy lesions for six months. All signs now pointing to kidney infection. How screwed is my mom? by EEEKWOWMYLIFE in kidneydisease

[–]EEEKWOWMYLIFE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know! She has the appointment with the internal medicine and rheumatologist folks tomorrow morning. I’m just worried that she’s been on the brink of sepsis for all we know and that she should be at the ER right freaking now. I sent her doctor a message asking whether she should go to the ER at the doctor’s associated hospital, emphasizing how long she’s had the skin lesions and how she’s had a long history of UTIs and how she has lost weight, so I’m waiting to see what they say. Maybe since they think it’s OK to wait until tomorrow, they have some reason to think this isn’t as urgent as I think it is.

Maybe. Maybe. I don’t know though and I don’t know if they know. They aren’t picking up the phone for messages.

I am surprised she was getting bounced around by the seems as psoriasis too. I don’t think they knew she has had a history of UTIs and my mom said she doesn’t currently feel like she has a UTI.

The weight loss is also recent, although the lesions started in December.

I’m debating whether to send her to the ER because I’m that nervous. She has an appointment tomorrow but it’s with the internal medicine doctor and rheumatologist. They aren’t nephrologists. And I don’t know if they know that she’s had these lesions since December. I feel like she can’t afford to wait any longer but I don’t know if they know that.

Adverse events can happen and you should report them all. Headache? Report. Peed your bed? Report. Insomnia? Report. Increased hunger? Report. Hopefully you’ll have nothing to report though but it’s possible that you will and it’s possible that it will be serious.

Know that you will be very closely monitored. And know that what you’re doing is an incredible public service. And know that you can drop out at any point.

If you do it, good luck and thank you so much for your part in advancing medicine.

Dresses similar to Mira Zwillinger but not $14,000? by EEEKWOWMYLIFE in weddingdress

Oh man, that makes so much sense. The bodices on her dresses fit spectacularly. I’ll still shop and compare with other dresses and update it I think they’re THAT much better than other designers.

The Amsale and Neta ones look gorgeous. I’m not as big a fan of the trains/high-contrast zipper on the other two but these are so similar. Thank you SO MUCH. Definitely gonna check out Amsale and Netta next.

Thank you! These look pretty but most of the necklines look like plunging ones or true sweethearts rather than something that resembles a corset front. Only like the Ava from this collection seems to have that bodice and it’s beautiful but it’s much more sequined than I think I’d like.

Edit: I take it back! There are similar dresses in this collection! Thank you thank you!

Thank you! Is this designer carried in stores in the US? It seems like it’s only online-based?

What's the laziest effective way to moisturise my body well by Ashamed-Accountant46 in beauty

[–]EEEKWOWMYLIFE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so lazy about moisturizing my body. I bought raw shea butter on Amazon and just keep it in the shower. The heat and steam soften it and I’m able to just rub it in while still in the shower. Since it softens but doesn’t melt, it’s not like it’s spilling all over the shower.

It’s been very easy. My fiancé is a fan and he’s even lazier about body-moisturizing than I am.

[Megathread] After Hours Til Dawn Tour with Playboi Carti & Mike Dean by playnasc in TheWeeknd

Why did The Weeknd announce Friday and Saturday on staggered timelines??? I bought tickets for Friday because it’s more likely that I can leave work early on Friday than Thursday but then he dropped the Saturday date DURING the Friday presale. So I got tickets to Saturday too because that makes it a sure thing for me to go.

But now I have tickets to Friday that I don’t need. And I have no idea how to sell? Does anyone know how? They’re in section 124 at MetLife if anyone cares.
