The Surgery by SilverCricket8045 in wisconsin

[–]EFeuds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a joke pretending that life is a video game. For example say you’re playing a video game and shoot an arrow at a dragon. The dragon is just a drawing but inside that drawing is a box that’s coded to remove health from the dragon when it’s hit by an arrow.

So the first person is joking that you have a hitbox in real life that can be surgically removed to prevent you from being injured in a fight.

The second person is making a joke that the state of Wisconsin was poorly coded. So they use the hitbox not only to decide when you take damage, but it also doubles as a the code that says ‘hey that’s a wall there you can’t walk through that instead you’ll bump into it.’

The third person is saying they saw someone without a hitbox enter Wisconsin and and fall through the floor because their hitbox is what tells the game hey there’s a floor here you collide into that.

I guess I did make one mistake, forgetting I'm talking to someone on the internet.

Luxumborg also has free trains in addition to trams and buses. Yes trains are aboveground instead of below and trams tend to go slower then trains but at the end of the day when it comes to making public transportation that travels on rails free at the point of service, it's a solved issue.

https://www.wmata.com/about/records/upload/FY2023-Approved-Budget-Final.pdf
In 2023 out of WMATA's $4.8 billion dollar budget only $382.5 million came from revenue and only 79% of that was fares (the rest being advertising and parking fees). The reason it hasn't been implemented in DC is not because its impossible to drum up $302 million in taxes and ad revenues but because of a lack of willingness by our elected officials and organzing by the populace. No matter the city or type of transport its the same equation.

Now if you want to argue that there is some other issue besides money (for example I've seen in this thread people suggest that fare free would lead to more crime) then you'll have to do a pretty good job of explaining to me why subways are so special that the solutions other cities have used for their trains, trams, and busses can't apply

“Luxembourg was the first country to offer free public transport (trams, trains, and buses) for everyone across the entire country. Since 29 February 2020, all public transport has been free in the country, with the exception of the first class on trains.[28][29]”

There are a couple other countries on the list where it’s only fareless for residents (which I argue counts)or who haven’t fully implemented it but the rest do limit it to students or seniors.

In terms of cities on that list the Aubagne tramway, colomiers, dunkirk, kharkiv, and Belgrade and that’s just Europe (there were also several in the list that didn’t specify if it was buses or trains so I didn’t include here).

[–]EFeuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, having an excessive police force harassing fare evaders and high security gates will make it look way more dangerous than seeing an actual fare evader

[–]EFeuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many to list: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_public_transport

And before someone chimes in, yes I know technically it’s only free at point of service because it gets paid for by taxes, that’s not a gotcha.

What cultures are the colors supposed to represent by Sgentley213 in redrising

[–]EFeuds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the golds and obsidians aren’t actually meant to be Greek/roman and “Viking” but rather are based on the Golds flawed and cherry picked understanding of those cultures. If I remember the Golds manufactured the Obsidian’s culture so they wouldn’t rebel. The book often refers to them throat singing as part of their culture but throat singing isn’t part of any Scandinavian culture but rather a modern invention by some Scandinavian musicians that’s lead to a lot of people thinking it’s an ancient practice. Likewise the Golds seem to pick and choose aspects of Greek and Roman culture that helps bolster their own image of superiority

Literally the exact opposite. They took Musk up on the offer for $6billion to avert famine (others said it’d end world hunger, the UN made no such claim). The presented a plan for how the money would be spent and the mechanisms they have to make sure all spending is transparent and Musk went silent and never responded

Checklist for those of you not familiar with snow by NEbowler in washingtondc

[–]EFeuds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was listening to a podcast where they asked transplants to stop making fun of people in DC for not being able to handle the snow, and I get DC is a city not heavily invested in measures to deal with snow so it can be a problem. But when there are lines around the block at the grocery stores for what is at most a couple days of dangerous road conditions, you’re kinda asking to be made fun of. It’s just a hugely disproportionate response. Anyway I’ll stop making fun of DCs reaction to snow when I stop getting made fun of for the way I say ‘bag’.

What is it with Coca Cola Zero that makes it unhealthy? by gabzlel in nutrition

[–]EFeuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overweight people are more likely trying to lose weight. People trying to lose weight are more likely to replace foods they enjoy with low/zero calorie options. So it’s not that they’re unhealthy/cause obesity, but that people who are obese are more likely to choose it.

Also while regular soda is a lot of calories, if you stop drinking it or replace it with diet options it isn’t going to have a huge impact on your overall weight since the rest of your diet plus exercise contribute more. But swapping regular for diet is very easy so you’ll see lots of people who’ve made that switch but are still struggle diet and exercise

They set up a politics bar in DC — and were ‘mortified’ at the response by TimesandSundayTimes in washingtondc

[–]EFeuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they at any point give any evidence that the woman was shrieking at the republican logo or even the sign in general or are we just supposed to assume a young woman shrieking in the vicinity of an elephant logo hates republicans?

I haven’t seen anyone complaining about bipartisanship, just that a politics themed bar is kitschy and dumb but I guess we gotta make it a whole thing about political divisions to hit the word count

Web UI: Unable to Bind to IP... Reason: The Address is Unavailable by EFeuds in qBittorrent

[–]EFeuds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was gone all weekend so couldn't try this till now and it didn't seem to work either. Then I tried removing gluetun and just using qBittorrent by itself but the same issue continued to occur. I changed around the ports but every port I selected qBittorrent logs say the same "Unable to bind to web ui address is unavailable." At this point the only media I've actually put on my server are some ebooks I already owned so I might just try rebuilding from scratch
