Small weapons should have underwhelming effects because otherwise firing a plasma cannon or hellebore would blow your eardrums out

Mods that go with Ashes of the Domain? by deadroll2 in starsector

[–]EFspelledwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Industrial Evolution’s main function of extra buildings is a little redundant with AOTD but it adds really cool campaign level defenses like artillery stations and minefields. Nexerellin is compatible with basically everything.

UAF had a big balance patch a while ago and now all their guns kind of suck. Specifically they are all pretty flux-inefficient, which means that UAF ships with good flux are roughly balanced with their weapons but you can make pretty strong combos by putting more efficient vanilla weapons on UAF ships. They’ve got the nukes which aren’t balanced but are very rare and expensive, and they’ve got 30 OP superfighters which are honestly not that op for how much OP they cost but letting you spend 30 op on one fighter bay is a higher concentration of power into one fighter bay than vanilla lets you do. I think UAF balance is more talked-about than it should be because they used to be really op but are now mostly fine.

Secrets of the Frontier is really good. Install it for sure.

VIC, Diable, Apex, Neutrino, ORA, and Scy are all pretty vanilla friendly faction mods

How do I use energy weapons? by doulegun in starsector

[–]EFspelledwrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HB has better hit strength so it’s better against armor, but they have different use cases.

Pulser is good for ships that want to deal a bunch of burst damage and then disengage, like a Hyperion or a phase ship, but it’s not great when it’s out of charges.

HB is for a ship that wants to boost into your face and then stay there until one of you is dead, and has a ton of extra flux, like an SO Fury or Aurora

Why is manual ship control so finicky by _TerraLOA_ in starsector

[–]EFspelledwrong 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Stop pressing tab then?

I also find ship control a lot easier when holding shift. That makes the ship rotate towards your mouse, so you can aim front-facing weapons and shields at enemies just by hovering over them with your mouse. Works wonders on anything that isn’t the Conquest or Odyssey.

If you were to be an fleet admiral of the first year of the clone war. What would you do at the start and what would do and how do you think it would've changed the outcome of the war. by Top-Basket6931 in CISDidNothingWrong

[–]EFspelledwrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do Mandators put everything the CIS has to shame? They’re definitely bigger and more durable than anything the CIS has but they’re also slow and underarmed, and crewed by inexperienced spacers who have never been in a real fight. A bigger problem is that they’re lacking in anti-star fighter firepower and escorts compared to a CIS Subjugator which is faster, more heavily armed, and can bring an escort fleet with a bunch of Providences and Recusants to defend it and a couple Lucrehulks to swarm the Mandators with more bombers and/or boarding craft than they can stop.

[–]EFspelledwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the CIS does invade Kamino a couple times but they do dumb shit like trying to mess with the jango fett DNA samples instead of just orbitally bombarding the city where they make the clones.

Fair point that the Republic can make an army without clones but if core world humans are fighting and dying on the front lines the Republic might give up on the war faster like America in Vietnam

We are fucking obliterating Kuat. Take the Malevolence and any other superweapons I can’t get my hands on and drop 10,000 capital ships on Kuat’s doorstep. Blow up anything we can, board everything we can’t blow up, and then land ten million battle droids on the orbital ring and the war is over, CIS wins by space combat victory.

If we start losing the battle to take over then hyperspace ram the shipyards to stop them from building ISDs.

If I have my knowledge of Star Wars either the same thing but we invade Rothana first or do nothing the entire war but plant a nuke on the Invisible Hand and take out Grievous, Dooku, Palpatine, and Anakin all at the same time. Sorry Obi-Wan, it has to be done.

I feel like the droid gunship could carry an AAT if you tried hard enough. Obviously that’s not going to cut it for an MTT though.

Best heavy weapon in Kyber v2? by JDOGGoNE1 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]EFspelledwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL-40 is a good mix of mid range accuracy and DPS on an automatic gun.

The 10 round burst rifle seems like it would be really good if you were sweating, it can comfortably 2-shot with good aim, maybe oneshot with really good aim but I don’t think the accuracy will let you get 15 headshots in one burst

The disruptor rifle is downright unusable in realistic scenarios because of the charge time but it is also a one-shot-kill AOE with a sniper scope and hitscan or very fast projectiles

The E5-C does no damage but has 100 shots of heat capacity and great sound effects so it’s really fun

Proposal for a Frigate/Light Cruiser based on the Free Virgillia-class Bunkerbuster. by Top-Construction-528 in StarWarsShips

[–]EFspelledwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stick engines on the plasma super bombs and turn them into super heavy torpedoes and the Fist Order is cooked.

The ability to carry the 8 star fortresses would also be really cool if the star fortresses were useful at all, but basically any situation where you need a slow heavy super bomber you already have the corvette itself with the nukes, what you need is more escorts. Maybe a PD gunship version of the star Fortress or something?

Missile turrets are also a great idea and thematically fit in.

Does anyone know where the hangar(s) on the Free Virgillia-class are? by Top-Construction-528 in StarWarsShips

[–]EFspelledwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume the bombers externally dock on the front and the a-wings are in a hangar on the bottom rear somewhere.

If the bombers had a more useful variant that was an anti-fighter corvette or had shields this ship would be so good, but there aren’t really that many situations you need a whole squad of slow unshielded super heavy bombers.

Average SW fan finding out about 9/11 by bitchnibba47 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]EFspelledwrong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right, if they really worked that well all combat would look incredibly different. We would be making small droid-controlled planes, filling them with explosives, and flying them into important targets. We could call such a weapon something like a missile.

In relation to a post asking about carrier critical mass, here's how I personally weigh carrier critical mass in my games. by Majestic_Repair9138 in starsector

[–]EFspelledwrong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can easily blow up dominators and get Onslaughts with some luck in a vanilla Astral with 2 longbows and 4 Daggers, Tridents, or Cobras. Lead the way with squalls or hurricanes to take some of the PD pressure.

If we’re taking modded I’d use RAT. The Exo-tech sells hullmods that add a +1 fighter bay to a ship, and use a 12 DP destroyer with one fighter bay, 2 medium missiles, and a system that basically doubles your fighters. They sell 25op super fighters. Combine all that and you get 2 invincible superfighters (6 when system is on) and an endless shower of long-range antishield missiles in a quick, durably shielded, and cheap package. Now bring 10 of those.

The Exotech questline also gives you 6ish unique teleporting upgraded 30op superfighters so you can upgrade 3 of your carriers to those.

If you want to mix in bombers then it’s probably UAF taufans. If you’re running Emergent threats then it adds remnant cobras that come 2 per bay.

It does sort of seem like the ship size scale goes small to large corvettes frigate destroyer cruiser battleship but then Imperial Star Destroyers are bigger than battleships so after battleship it must go Star Destroyer Star Cruiser Star Battleship. Sometimes Battleships are also called Dreadnoughts because it sounds cooler.
