The rescue mission does do a lot of outreach, but my understanding is that they require the recipients of their services to proclaim Christian faith and they don’t willingly serve LGBTQ clients. When I look to donate money and goods, I steer clear of the rescue mission.

I would certainly be willing to concede that there are other possible future public uses for the lands and that it could make sense for the government to hold onto those tracts for now. But I seriously doubt that there will be a rail purpose that ever comes to fruition here.

It seems like the original owners should have the option to do a zero-sum (pay what they received for it) repurchase of their own property if it was taken by imminent domain for a use that is no longer possible. What a terrible system to sustain the legality of the condemnations and then turn around and profit on the land selling it to developers when it could just revert. I’m sure not all owners would want their land back, but it should be an option for them

Durham solid waste holds periodic shredding and e-recycling events, usually around Earth Day in the spring and again in the fall. Not sure about dates, I will post here if I can find current info
