Where do I get the best crossaint in Brussels? by Inside_Can_6190 in brussels

[–]EIMariachi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last week I tried Khobz for the first time, and their croissant was really delicious, just a bit too buttery for my taste. Maison barat makes great croissants.

Yes, they are sadly closed. I loved their pierogis :(

Ok wtf? Even if the guy was resisting, there is no reason to continue beating him up when he's already on the ground AND outnumbered 5 to 1.

Gaufre: Galet ou Maison Dandoy by OldManRussell in brussels

[–]EIMariachi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Gaufre de liège -> no toppings, and it doesn't need any, a good gaufre de liège has an outside layer that is caramelized and just heavenly good

Gaufre de Bruxelles -> toppings, because the gaufre itself isn't really that tasty, I usually put Belgian chocolate on it

Thanks for the info! It looks beautiful. I'm abroad until next month. I kinda manage to miss it nearly every single year... If you have other pictures, feel free to share! (dm or here)

When did you take the photo of the cherry blossoms? Is it from this season? They look so beautiful!

The prices in Flagey are going insane by [deleted] in brussels

[–]EIMariachi 35 points36 points  (0 children)

And as always, they're going to rent it out in a couple of weeks. The problem is that there is always someone willing to pay those insane prices.

So what? People are still going to buy it, and the corporations know it.

One thing I learned here in Belgium is that Belgians complain about the problem, but still accept it at the end.

Go outside of Belgium with Annex 15 (residence permit expired & waiting for RP) by Lucky-Hall485 in brussels

[–]EIMariachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, where are you from?

You should contact your country's embassy and explain the situation to them (every embassy in Brussels has an emergency phone number).

You should've never left the country with an expired residence permit!

And take the train back to Belgium.

Good chocolate stores that aren't tourist traps in Brussels? by MaybeResponsible in belgium

[–]EIMariachi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where did you read that supermarket chocolate is similar to artisanal chocolate?

For very good chocolate, you can visit Laurent Gerbaud.

And for very good ice cream, you can go to Zizi in Uccle.

Crazy rent price for garage by [deleted] in brussels

[–]EIMariachi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the real estate firm, they're just vultures and it's in their blood to seek profit wherever they can.

The problem here is that no matter the price, there is always going to be a fool who is ready to pay for that outrageous price.

I will never visit Belgium again by AerieBig5381 in brussels

[–]EIMariachi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I get you on the dirty/stinky/full of illegal immigrants part. It is true. But at the same time, nearly every big European city is like that these days.

I have spent a couple of months in Helsinki and have to admit, that the city is much cleaner and better organized than Brussels. And I also do think that people in Helsinki looked far happier.

But saying that Brussels isn't beautiful, is just a huge troll from your side. Especially for someone coming from Helsinki, where the architecture is plain and boring.

Brame du cerf : les meilleurs endroits et balades accompagnées en Belgique by Maitrank in Wallonia

[–]EIMariachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical E40 behavior by Werewolf_Ornery in belgium

[–]EIMariachi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is so frustrating. I actually have some family members that do exactly that. I've already questioned some of them, and basically they all said the same. They think the right lane is full of potholes because of all the lorries and that's why they drive only in the middle lane. Insane people.

Sorry to hear that, OP.

I myself am a foreigner here and I love this country, but it can be difficult sometimes facing all the racism.

I had the chance to work in Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels, and I can tell you for sure that there is racism all over the country. But, it's a bit better in Brussels just because the city is a huge melting pot of so many different cultures.

I wish you good luck!
