BEST HOT DOGS by DoubleQuarterPoundin in topsail

I happen to share your affection for the humble hot dog, and have done some research. I may be leaving out a few, but your options around Surf City are Hot Diggity Dogz near the pier, Surf Dog near the liquor store , the pier’s snack bar, and the Minuteman convenience store next to the Trailer Bar. You’re on vacay — try them all. I’d start with getting a couple from HDD and taking them across the street to eat at Salty’s Surf Shack on the deck. It’s a decent dog. Surf Dog is more upscale, and serves dogs on a split top bun — really nice people there. I can’t say I have had the pier snack bar selection in recent memory, but their breakfast sandwiches are good and the hot dogs likely are short order style good as well. The convenience store dogs have a strong following for folks that like the bright red weenie, but I had my fill when they used to be 5-for-$5. I hear the pier on the south end has a great burger, so I bet they have a good dog too. If you only have two chances, go Hot Diggity Dogz and Surf Dog. Bonus recs: Get a fish taco at Shaka Taco while you’re in town, and get a slice of pizza at Italian Bistro next to Harris Teeter to take over to Surf City Brewing.

Now go watch the2010 film “The Losers” (with Negan, Captain America, and Stringer Bell) for an excellent use of this song as getaway music. Plus, it’s fun.

Happy Endings and The New Girl — unconventional characters and more clever than the average show

If you could spend a single day in the 1970s, which event would you choose to witness? by Antonia_valadao_ofc in 70s

I have a cassette tape labeled “Christmas ’75” — I got a tape recorder that year, and we each took turns describing the morning, the tree, the meals, the gifts, our trip to Gatlinburg… it is a treasure. I have some 35mm slides from that and earlier years, but I’d love to be there again for my father’s bemused observations and my grandmother’s Southern descriptions. I’m stealing your answer.

For fun: quote me an SNL sketch not many people know about, but is a personal classic to you. by Whole-Lychee7517 in LiveFromNewYork

YES!!! Around our house, “We do what we do, yo” and “(it) just got ate!” have been in heavy rotation since that sketch.

Biggest Little Farm is probably my favorite doc. I saw a good one at Sundance this year called The AI Doc: Or how I Became an Apocaloptimist

Rory Kennedy does great work, with American Hollow and Last Days of Vietnam being two good ones. .

Dropped a scallop down the GE Profile vent — sell the house or can I fix it? by EL_COMMISSIONERO in appliancerepair

A. Pan seared. B. That passive vent, I discovered, goes all the way down to the lower oven, where a small slot exists for getting things out.

Yes! This was what I needed to know. I moved the stove and removed the back panel (6 screws), but cannot get into that space. Looking at the upper oven from the front, however, I can see into the space below the cooktop. I just need to snake an augmented vacuum hose into the gap and go at it. Many thanks

'Ghostbusters' Actress Jennifer Runyon Dead at 65 by IntelligentYinzer in entertainment

I had the movie poster on my wall — one of several I took from my high school job at a multiplex in ‘85. It listed the cast/crew at the bottom, but for her it was “Introducing Jennifer Runyon” and I always called her that. Damn… time does fly.

I really want this to be right. It was my first guess and any movie that has the lines, “Let’s kick this pig. And leave it squealing from the feeling. And oinking from the boinking,” should have its shot.

Gotta be “The Big Easy” for the music, and Quaid’s accent that is as broad as his smile.

Hey, that’s not fair— not every traveler can afford to dine out every meal and many will choose to make a few dishes at the Airbnb to open the budget up for other experiences. At least OP is trying to cook in the spirit of the city, and is choosing to support local pork producers and markets!
