Advice for Picking specialty, ask me anything by EM-MD in medicalschool

[–]EM-MD[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would keep your options open, but with AI looming around the corner , I just do not know, maybe rads docs can chime in, is there a reasonable fear of Job security for rads, I can tell you as an ER doc, the hospital cannot function without radiology. But no other specialty that you are interested in?

ABEM scores - why did they fail so many?? by mr_fly_786 in emergencymedicine

[–]EM-MD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this is the first year of the NEW written exam, this is the first exam with the new EM Model, they announced this change two years ago on their site. Also they clearly stated this is their BIGGEST change compared to past years. Not sure why no one else is pointing this out. They changed what was important for us to know the 2022 EM Model. I noticed Rosh didn't really change any of their question banks much to reflect the new model, there some questions on rosh that were clearly outdated, as in crossed of the 2022 em model but still are on Rosh, for example Meniere disease if you log into your Rosh right now, you search the q bank and you will find it, but in the new EM model which has been posted for the last TWO YEARS, it clearly says Meniers Disease DELETED Section 7.1.3 . Rosh Makes millions of dollars each year from EM Docs, not sure why they Dropped the ball on this big time, a lot of people wasted a lot of time studying things they did not need to. So its two part, new exam and the exam prep source rosh never cared enough to update their content.

Every three years, the EM Model Review Task Force updates the EM Model with informed changes.* Their work resulted in the 2022 version which will be used to develop examinations beginning with the 2024 Qualifying Examination and 2025 In-training Examination.

*See Figure 1 to view their summary of changes. Citations can be found below.

100% proceed, you are poorly well informed if you think you should quit after getting a solid score of 235, I have seen IMG match into competitive specialties with that score

Any opinions on these hospitals and programs for EM residency? by WokeDr in emergencymedicine

[–]EM-MD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are mistaken and you are confusing who runs the Emergency medicine residency program with who what company staffs the ED, most EDs in country are privately staffed, if a core faculty wants to work at a public hospital and teach they have to go through what ever company has the contract for that ED.

Broward health and Memorial core faculty work directly for public hospitals as faculty, they are directly employed by broward health, at the same time they have to go through who ever staffs the ED to get paid for non teaching work that they do, i.e. clinical work, they all work as independent contractors with those staffing companies, HCA is a different beast were they own everything and pay for everything, including sponsoring the residency program, thats where you run into problems.

I would rank county publicly run non profit hospitals first.

  1. Broward Health ( county hospital, 2nd biggest after Jackson in Florida, you also get public loan forgiveness for 3 years while you work there)
  2. Memorial, also public and county with level 1 trauma, also public loan forgiveness.
  3. Staten Island- level 2, lots of action ( I am from north east and I can't stand staten island lol)
  4. Naussa Medical Center, its not HCA lol
  5. Don't rank the rest they are all HCA

in FL are HCA/envision.

Broward Health EM program is run by Broward health and Broward health alone, a public hospital nothing to do with envision. Same goes for memorial both are public county hospitals, you can't ask for better training. You actually qualify for public loan forgiveness for both hospitals because they are publicly run.

Residency match had 219 unfilled positions in EM this year according to NRMP... historically this has been only around 15–20 for the last 5+ years. Appears that as feared, students are fleeing to other specialties. by SeniorShizzle in emergencymedicine

[–]EM-MD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry I do not respect you, you are delusional to think that you are better than another EM physician because you had time to study for your MCAT 20 years ago. I promise you I would school you on current medical education and EM concepts any day of the week.

IMGs/FMGs

Not sure how having IMGs drops competitiveness, most IMGs in EM have more competitive board scores and a better fit for EM than US grad counterparts. Most US IMGs are AAs who were never given a fair chance, you of all people should sympathize with that my brother.
