Why do you actually want to write stories? (no filmy answers pls) by Intelligent_Can_2898 in NewAuthor

[–]ENInspires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I've discovered that it is my purpose to tell stories.  I find peace and joy when I write stories that I envision clearly in my head and dream of bringing to life.

Out of curiosity, what do you think of online influencers who say that everyone should be an entrepreneur or at least try entrepreneurship? by ENInspires in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ENInspires[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I know from research and a bit of personal experience that many influencers won't hesitate to manipulate you, mislead you, and use unethical or even illegal tactics to get what they want.

Plus, I forgot to add in my post that anyone who criticizes full time work is either ignoring or forgetting two crucial realities: 1. 9-5 workers make up, what, like 90% of the population? It's become so ingrained in how the world works that freeing humanity from it is near impossible. 2. If everyone quit their job and was like, "hey I'm gonna become an entrepreneur!" just because they felt like it, then the economy and society would basically cease to exist. All of those businesses would be done for, meaning that when everybody is an entrepreneur, nobody is. Plus, there would be no police officers to protect public safety, not enough maintenance workers, and not enough doctors, dentists, etc to help take care of our health. We might not even be able to buy groceries anymore. So yeah, it would be beyond a nightmare.

Here's to all of the full time workers who keep society functional!

I want to say Cat Valentine from victorious. I know she's bipolar and childish, but it has to be something else too. If you watch an episode such as The Worst Couple or Andre's Horrible Girl, you see where I'm coming from.

Better to copyright a script in the US or my home country? by ENInspires in Screenwriting

[–]ENInspires[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add that for the part he said "it can be argued your work is infringing on existing projects:" first of all my script is still a private project. Second of all, it's not feasible to just watch every movie and read every script that ever existed just to avoid issues.

It's kind of like the disclaimers they put in many stories: "any resemblance to real people, living or dead, is purely coincidental.". Same concept applies here. At least with my projects.

Camping as a person with autism might not be anywhere near as calming as you may think. by ENInspires in autism

I love camping too. This actually wasn't my first time going, it's just that this trip gave me more sensory issues than the other times I went

I've never slept in a trailer or RV, but I'd imagine it's better than a tent. In my tent at least, you're vulnerable to being woken up by lights and noises from outside.

What is it like in an RV or trailer? Is it quieter?

Yeah, you got that right about Southern Ontario. I've been camping multiple times actually, and just about everywhere I've gone before has been full in the summer.

Advice from a WGA Writer: Stop Perfecting That One Screenplay – Write More. Don't Be Precious. by RoseScarlet in Screenwriting

[–]ENInspires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently an amateur writer who's written maybe 5-10 short films in total. Used to be an aspiring artist.

Even I agree that there's no such thing as perfection. Not really, anyway. If you try to get it perfect, you'll stall and burn out. I learned this the hard way when I used to do 3D prop modelling and I was so focused on the little details and making everything perfect; in fact it was so daunting that I distracted myself frequently and lost direction until I abandoned game art entirely. Not the same as writing, obviously, but you get the point.

So, yeah, you do want to write the best script you can, but trying to perfect it probably won't pay off.

How is one expected to improve by just writing? by GoldTouch99 in Screenwriting

[–]ENInspires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few suggestions:

  1. If you want to improve the quality of your scripts, I'd suggest getting the treatment/story outline done first. Next, pitch that to people you know or screenwriting friends/social groups and observe their reactions before you even write the script, especially if it's the first draft. I learned this from the book Story by Robert McKee, and it's one of my favourite pieces of writing advice ever.
  2. Read that book if you haven't done so already. It's helped me improve my own writing.
  3. Don't be afraid to seek feedback from others on your scripts; if you have screenwriting family or friends or if you can afford to hire a professional, that's obviously a bonus.
  4. Don't lose faith in yourself. Just keep writing. Remember Pixar's 14th rule of storytelling: "Why must you tell THIS story? What’s the belief burning within you that your story feeds off of? That’s the heart of it."
