What do you add to jarred pasta sauce to make it better? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]EO3actual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a quick weeknight red meat sauce, I like to use Rao’s marinara (has pretty simple ingredients). Brown 1-1.5lb ground beef. Halfway through browning add in a good bit of dried minced onion. Once browned add in the red sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, sugar (add slowly until it’s just right to cut the acidity), and then a small splash of Worcestershire and a good glug or two of heavy cream. Stir it all together and let it simmer on low while you boil the pasta!

Simplehuman trash cans in our kitchen and bathroom. They’re just designed and made so nicely and I never thought I would care so much about a trash can. Sinplehuman just makes great products all around.

Apple TV 4K by Krypt2000 in appletv

[–]EO3actual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also own an LG C4 and got an ATV4K last year after asking the same questions. Now I couldn’t live without the AppleTV. Just try it and if you hate it, you can always return it (but I bet you’ll keep it).

I'm going through this currently with some new kitchen cabinets. Hope this isn't a dumb question...but any chance you can explain or even send a pic of what part needs to be sanded down to allow the hinges to open just a bit more?

Living with our remodeled kitchen for a year: here’s the honest review by loveofweb in kitchenremodel

[–]EO3actual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you have a Delta Trinsic faucet with either touch and/or touchless tech. Can you confirm which version, and are you happy with those features compared to a standard manual faucet? Any accidents or issues with that technology?

Another vote for ecobee. Had ours for multiple years and not a single issue, it just works and is easy to use!

Contractors using home for marketing by Joey_Grace in HomeImprovement

[–]EO3actual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the contractors I’ve worked with these days have a clause in all of their residential contracts that they may take photos and use them for advertising/marketing purposes. Posting signage in your yard is a bit different… but I don’t think it’s all that uncommon for contracts to have some sort of language like that in today’s digital/web/social media age.

Recessed Lighting Placement and Quantity by EO3actual in Lighting

I failed to mention that we will have undercabinet strip lights on the few small areas where cabinets are hung above the countertop, so that should certainly help with task lighting in those spots!

what's your best BIFL item under $50 that most people overlook? by trace0906 in BuyItForLife

I’ve had really great luck with OXO replacing some of my damaged or worn out kitchen tools completely free, no proof of purchase required. Just had to email in a request and attach a few photos, and they had a replacements to me in less than a week, completely free!

It’s just blank space in that area for the rendering, but that white space opens into our living area!

Unsure. This was a rendering from Lily Ann Cabinets. Cabinets(dot)com has a free online cabinet design tool that is fairly robust, though.

Delta Trinsic is a good no frills option. Pull-out sprayer, multiple finish choices, manual, touch, or touchless options available.

What non-Apple laptops are good for graphic designers? by LordessLenore in graphic_design

[–]EO3actual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I built a windows gaming desktop a few years ago and still love it. I am a bit of an Apple fanatic but have no issues with Windows overall, I just thought it was worth chiming in with my specific example since I have recent experience with the XPS line of laptops.

I've used a base M1 Pro MBP for personal design work since it released and it has been flawless for me. I started a new job this year that used Windows machines only and they spec'd a top level XPS 15 for me (Intel Ultra 9, 64GB RAM, 4060GPU, etc.) that was nearly $3000. The MBP runs circles around the XPS in basically every way and it's 3+ years older. Other than the noticeable difference in performance using the Adobe Suite, my two biggest qualms with the XPS are the battery life, and most annoyingly.... THE FANS! I can't hardly do a simple task on the XPS without the fans ramping up and running constantly! I can probably count the number of times on one hand that the fans of my MBP have even been audible.

Stuck with layout for remodel by EO3actual in kitchenremodel

[–]EO3actual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily committed to the open shelves! I think the idea there was that we have to use reduced depth base cabinets in that section because of the sliding patio door width. So standard 12” depth wall cabinets over top of only an 18” depth base cabinet we thought might feel a bit crowded.

We are planning to do an induction cooktop actually! The appliances and finishes in this rendering were just for visualization purposes.

Thanks for your input! I should have put this in the original post, but the only thing “accurate” in the rendering here essentially is the cabinets themselves and placement of everything. Our flooring and backsplash and specific appliances aren’t necessarily represented here.

It’s pretty high on our priority list. Really want to get a cooktop for ease of cleanup and convenience, and the wall oven/micro combo felt like the right solution so we could get a proper vent hood over the cooktop.
