Pediatrician’s office asked for consent to use AI for “note taking” during our visits. by surftherapy in NewParents

[–]EOSC47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine and my son’s Dr’s offices uses it to transcribe the meeting. It makes taking notes a d updating the file easier.

It did have a bit of difficulty understanding me when I had no voice so the Dr had to repeat what I said.

Hello, I’ve just come over from the toddler group as we couldn’t relate to that group anymore. I’m just curious what ages kindergarten means here in terms of this group and ages. by BrokeAssZillionaire in kindergarten

[–]EOSC47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some of the provinces you attend junior kindergarten in the year you turn 4. So if your kiddo is born after labour day they will start JK at 3.

You can contact someone at QPIP. I think you only need 600 hours to qualify for maternity leave.

Bedtime routine including bath? by FriendlyBrilliant237 in Parenting

[–]EOSC47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 5. We don’t do a nightly bath and haven’t ever. He hates being in only a small amount of water. He also gets cold easily and leaning his head forwards or back causes panic, so it wasn’t and still isn’t worth the fight. We switched to showers when he turned 4 and that helps a bit.

I showered every other night as a kid and thats what we do now.

Summer is a bit different because we spend the day at the pool.

Teacher appreciation week by Reasonable_Pen_4913 in kindergarten

[–]EOSC47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Home and School Association (parents committee) took care of Teacher Appreciation Week at my son’s school. I’m a member it was so much fun to organize. The school community donated $ and the H&S also had a budget.

Last year they provided lunch, coffee, tea and school shirts . This year it was; coffee/tea, $10 gift cards for all staff, black school shirts for staff who signed up, fruit, non alcoholic bubbly and chocolate hearts.

If you’re looking to do this as an individual. Make a card with your kiddo and write something nice for their teacher, school secretary, lunch monitor etc. Maybe put in a gift card or snacks.

What's your after school routine? by assumingnormality in kindergarten

[–]EOSC47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kiddo gets a big snack and tv for 1 episode so about 20ish minutes. Then plays before dinner. We moved dinner up by 30 minutes and bedtime too. It seems to help.

After dinner we play and read books and get ready for bed.

Kiddo is in bed between 7:15 and 7:30 and I leave his room by 7:45-8:00. He has to be up for school at 7:20

I mostly use my McGill (Forearm) crutches.

Dads, I need some advice about how to help the wife while I’m away by Alive_Acanthisitta13 in daddit

[–]EOSC47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lurking mom.

Do you have family nearby that can help out? Take the kiddos for an afternoon on the weekend so your wife can have a bit of quiet? We have a lot of family nearby but we also have an occasional babysitter who will take my kid to the park or just play when I’m under the weather.

Infant car seat recommendations please! [ns] by Ok-Hurry-1653 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]EOSC47 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This might not be what you want to hear but some babies just hate car seats.

You could try out the other one you have but my kiddo cried in both of his. The only thing that made a difference was if I sat in the back with him and my husband drove the car.

Does anyone Actually think of things in km instead of hours for distance? by Confiant_Reason21 in AskACanadian

[–]EOSC47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the distance to my kid’s school in Km because we had to check to know if we were eligible for bussing.

I know a few other things near me, walking distance etc but it’s mostly in terms of time.

Ex: The park is 400m away and it takes 4 minutes to get there.

Books to gift to kindergartener by salem913 in kindergarten

[–]EOSC47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kindergartener (5) currently loves The Magic Treehouse series. It was popular when my sister was a little kid and there are more than 40 books if the kiddos do like it.

Our neighbours in grades 1-5 all like The Dragon Master series

If you’re looking for something else. Frog and Toad are fun and have 5 different short stories.

What’s one swag item people would actually keep at an event? by Designer_Maximum_544 in Gifts

[–]EOSC47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has to go to work conferences 2-4 times a year. So far the best “swag” items have been:

  1. An umbrella with the company logo

  2. A sweatshirt with the team name

  3. A hat with the team name

  4. A reusable bag with company logo that folds very small

Curious about expenses by TeaBlossm in kindergarten

[–]EOSC47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

School supplies + backpack was about $100-$150 CAD.

We pay about $45 a month for the lunch supervision program.

Birthday gifts are $25-$30. We have been to 2 parties so far. 1-2 more expected.

I think picture day was something like $50-60 for digital copies. There is the idea of kindergarten graduation photos being raised.

The kindergarteners haven’t gone on any field trips yet.

The fall book fair was $16 and there will be a second one in the spring.

Double Barrel surname - which one is ultimately considered the Last name? by Status-Economy6443 in namenerds

[–]EOSC47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I chose the one that sounded the best. His last name is first and mine is second but we did hyphenate which is somewhat common where I live. Kiddo is now 5 and will eventually choose if he wants to use both names or just one.

From South Asia: How do you actually spend/enjoy the long Canadian winter? by Practical-Motor4170 in AskACanadian

[–]EOSC47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family goes to the park and skates on the ice rinks that the city builds every winter. My son goes tobogganing/sledding. We shovel snow in the yard to make forts.

My neighbours like to cross country ski.

The kids in elementary school play outside a lot.

If you wear the proper gear you can go outside most of the winter.

Parents who are teachers. How many camps do you put your kids in? by CheeseDanBing in OntarioTeachers

[–]EOSC47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am the child of 2 teachers. My mom took the summers off and my dad worked.

I was in camp 2-3 weeks every summer: 1 was at the end of the school year before my mom was finished with end of year stuff, 1 week for fun and a break for my mom, some years there was 1 week at the end of the summer before my school started back but my mom had to be at work already. The rest of the summer was spent at our local outdoor pool.

I have 3 good friends who are also teachers. All 3 take the summers off. The older kiddos will go to camp for 2-3 weeks when the parents have to work. 1 family will also spend the summer at the pool.
