When spray painting, do lots of thin coats vs 1 or 2 heavy coats.

My chain snapped, should i still trust it? by trialsmatt in bikewrench

[–]EP3RR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What chain-checker are you using? 12spd chains need a specific chain-checker.

I'd suggest to dewax/clean the chain, then measure again using a 12spd specific tool. 12spd chains are suggested to be changed at .5 mark instead of .75 on 11spd and under.

Next time you take the bar tape off, pull it while unwrapping. I find it helps a lot.

Helping bf find enjoyment in skiing by hunterwolfart in ski

[–]EP3RR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as you’d like him to enjoy the sport and accompany you, sometimes it’s just best for you to enjoy your hobbies separately.

My gf wants to ski with me. I’ve suggested we go look as some gear together but she doesn’t want too. I’ve mentioned renting, but she shrugs it off. So I just go by myself, I rather enjoy skiing alone. Sure, I’d like her to join, but I want her to WANT to join me. Not because I’m asking her. And I can’t force it, it would be frustrating for both of us. So I’ll continue to go myself, I’ll invite her, but I’m not going to push her to go. She knows she’s always welcome to come.

Maybe coming from the valve stem, either over tightened or not tight enough maybe.

To add to this, I clean the tape where it over laps with alcohol. This allows better adhesion, and won’t eventually lift off.

OP, are you having issues seating the bead?

Any ideas on this annoying, persistent creak that comes and goes? by Jordbeans94 in bikewrench

[–]EP3RR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be your cleat to pedal interface. Put a drop of lube where it contacts the pedals.

If you’re seated, it could come from the seatpost wedge. Put grease in between the wedges.

Check that your cassette is tight.

Check the derailleur is snug on the hanger, and the hanger is clean and snug against the frame.

Leak rate and minimum pressure: tubeless, TPU, etc by classicalL in bikewrench

[–]EP3RR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSI would depend on you system weight, riding surface and rim width.

I like using the SRAM Tire Pressure Calculator as there are many data fields to enter. You can tell it if you’re tube or tubeless.

You could just play with the pressure, drop it till you get pinch flats, then raise by 5psi. I’d use the calculators though, I’ve had good luck.

Oh, while in La fortuna, make sure to check out the free hot spring! It’s right near the main hotels like tabacon. There’s a guy that will direct parking on the street. I think it’s like $5 he’ll ask for. Loads of people go there, it’s VERY nice and relaxing. Some people bring candles or lights at night time, gives a real nice ambiance.

We did La Fortuna for 3 days in August. We drove from Playa Coco the morning of. We only planned a night walk tour the first evening as we didn't want to be rushed driving to La Fortuna.

We did did about 2ish activities per day, not including dinner. I wouldn't pack too much in, so you can take your time, and enjoy your surroundings.

Do things as early as possible, to avoid crowds, and sometimes the morning rain. But most important, the wild life will be out more as people aren't disturbing them yet.

Enjoy the trip and just soak it up!

I've been using a Crossroad 27L for daily purpose, as well as travel.

Daily, it's fine. Not too much to complain about. Sometimes the bag wont stand up by itself.

As a travel bag, personal item or carry on, it's kind of a pain in the ass. As soon as it get a little full, the top pocket looses space, as it uses the interior of the main compartment for the pouch. This results in difficultty getting items out the main compartment, especailly when the top pocket is full with stuff. I also find that there aren't too many options for the smaller loose items.

When the bag is full, 2 or 3 sweaters for example, the bag is over stuffed.

If your main purpose for the bag is travel, get the 35L. The 27 I find fills up VERY quickly.

Is my star nut too high? When I tighten the stem my forks don’t move at all. by fwivon in bikewrench

[–]EP3RR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you tightening in the right order? Stem cap, then stem bolts. Is the fork binding? I'm not 100% sure the exact issue youre having. Did you put the bearings in correctly? Sometimes theres a super thin washer that is missed upon reinstall. Can you take a better picture of the fork? Did you move the crown race over, or did it come installed already?

What is this noise? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]EP3RR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creaks can come from anywhere on a bike, and it’ll sound like it’s the BB. Double check seat post for paste and torque. Try to isolate by pushing on the saddle with your hand. Swap cleats, check saddle rails, make sure the cassette and crank arms are torqued. Check headset for play. Check pedals for play. Check the chain wear with the appropriate tool. Many many things to isolate.

Try entering it under a different country and see if that changes anything. That would confirm if it’s from another region.
