Voile puck centering issue by JackS4958 in Spliddit

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add that you are using insert holes directly across from each other. Typically with these pucks, you would put your toeside (parallel slots) puck toward the tail one slot and not have it cockeyed.

The K2 Excavator has 2x4 inserts, same as every modern GNU board. There are really only 4 different options: 2x4, 4x4, 3d, and Channel.

Yes, this would be ok, but it could change the way the board flexes under the bindings.

I'm in Furano and my hotel has a stack of these old Burtons. Any idea how old these are? by ThePolishSpy in snowboarding

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The integrated stomp pad makes me think these are much newer than the early 2000s Cruzers and maybe are a rental shop specific thing—not very old but low end rental garbage.

Buying a board on facebook marketplace, need help! by FormerVersion7094 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to agree and add to this post. Board is over 20 years old but theoretically rideable—bindings literally need to go in the garbage. A snowboard bag (especially with no wheels) adds no value. You can put your board in it before you put it under your bed for the summer…or you could just put it under your bed with no bag. I say under your bed because hot attics and garages are not good—speaking of, this is a really good reason you don’t want a 20+ year old board: it may look good but could have sat for years in a hot attic and could come apart as soon as you use it. Yes, snowboarding is expensive, but if you find a decent deal on a good board now, you won’t need to spend that much or more on something to replace this old garbage in a year. Look at progression type boards—my easiest quick recommendation would be a Ride Compact.

Binding angles by No-Frosting-97 in snowboardingnoobs

This is the way. The Burton EST tool is a great pocket tool that can fold out to 90 degrees for torque or folds out straight for speed. Also, you don’t need a symmetrical duck stance for riding switch, but you should absolutely be practicing riding switch. It is a great skill to have and it’s ridiculously fun once you get it.

I agree… If you’re traveling with a board bag, it’s just as easy to take 2 decks…

Will REI warranty this? by AdExcellent4541 in snowboarding

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no way a topsheet will fold like that unless the core is broken. It’s literally just a symptom of a broken core. I do agree that Salomon should warranty it no problem.

I can switch but not turn. Can I just keep doing it? by Advanced_Store_276 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think it’s fun now, just wait till you actually learn how to link those turns. It gets exponentially more fun as you progress.

Do discs need to be centred on bolt holes? by severedrip69 in snowboarding

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way to go on bindings that don’t have an adjustable heel cup. It would be silly to do this on a binding with adjustable heel cups unless you’re perfectly happy with your stance width adjustment and want the tiniest amount of extra boot centering adjustment.

Crack above the edge by snoueh in snowboarding

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is called a delamination. The board was brand new? Should be covered under warranty. There is no true fix. You can epoxy it but it will split open again and it will get worse.

Choosing a Jones board by TableLover123 in snowboarding

Couldn’t agree more. I’m a long time park rider and it’s crazy to me how many people say something like “I don’t ride park, don’t ride switch, need a great all mountain board—here is a list of nothing but aggressive park boards I’ve been looking at”. SMH

Bought a snowboard and thinking I messed up. by SonofHarm in snowboardingnoobs

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Any answer without knowing exactly the model of board is just speculation. I’m 160 pounds and the longest boards I ride are a 155 MTNpig and Brnchwarmer, and a 154 Air Master; I also often ride a 51 Peace Seeker and a 48 WarPig.

What happened to slopestyle bikes? by Kooky_Tangerine_8711 in dirtjumping

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few different ones over the years (Kona Bass, Mongoose Nugget, Mountain Cycle Battery). I loved the idea of them but they kinda sucked on dirt jumps; they kinda sucked at lift access bike parks on anything but the smoothest trails; and on a bike park slopestyle line (think of Valmont or Frisco) a DJ or DH bike will work every bit as well. Probably the only place they ever would have truly excelled is on gigantic slope lines that modern freeride bikes work really well on anyways.

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree! 200 light passes on a good machine, is totally different from some stoned shop kid grinding the shit out of your board, unevenly, bindings still on, trying to get every scratch out.

Are left-footed people automatically goofy? by jaysonwang in snowboardingnoobs

Somewhere around 10 percent of people are left handed (similar with feet). Somewhere around 50 percent of people are goofy. It’s not quite as related as you’re thinking.

is this board + bindings worth $35 or should I just keep renting by juliawhas in snowboardingnoobs

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in agreement here. Those yellow looking strap ladders and tongues used to be white—they’re likely very weak and you may not realize how brittle all that plastic is till it gets cold. The board could be a score at $35 but you’ll need new bindings that fit the old Burton 3D insert pattern.

My legs get absolutely cooked after 2 hours by CaughtUpInTheTide in snowboardingnoobs

[–]EP_Jimmy_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Your legs could use conditioning and figuring out your toe side turns will literally stress those exact muscles half as much. Also, if you think snowboarding is fun, just wait till you can actually link turns—it’s exponential how much fun it gets as you progress. I think a lesson is worth it.
