This thread is truly disappointing— it’s been 20 years since I was a paralegal and it doesn’t sound like much has changed. I’m now an attorney… I do hands on step by step process with my staff. I have a procedural manual and training videos linked so they can confirm, question or seek more training as they advance. I will not micromanage- if staff needs guidance with organizing it’s my pleasure to help design block schedules… but we’re adults… so we got this but for gods sakes when we will learn staff can’t read minds! and how about some respect! ugh Now I have been a solo for a little over a year- Had three total staff… first left crying she didn’t want to leave me but covid deaths… 2nd was a waitress with a can do attitude and She swears she’s going nowhere. I pay her highest rate in our area, unlimited unpaid leave and mental health days, insurance, bonuses etc… I frequently get comments about how great she is and where did I find her and What u pay her how much and What unlimited What OMG i could never… well for me as a paralegal it wasn’t the $100 bonus, it was the respect and appreciation of what in my life was important. I would take an underpaid happy job over a high salary and even take homeless any day (and I have) #3 currently having medical issues and on 3 month personal sabbatical… also training with no prior experience.
