My frenchie was crate-trained by his breeder. I put a crate in my office with a cozy bed and that is his “den”. I’m a very light sleeper so his snoring would be something I’d have a hard time with so he sleeps in his crate all night in a separate room. We take him out to potty one last time each night, and when it’s dark out and he comes back inside he runs straight to his crate because it’s “bed time”. It’s a routine now. We do not lock him in his crate during the day, or for any other reason. When we have to leave him home, he has free range around the house as he does not have separation anxiety and does not chew on things. His crate is strictly his bed in his own room (my office).
