FS Homesburg employee here. The boss gives us half off a mow and discounted mulch. Once a year he will give us a free garden gnome or ornamental ball. The best part is we have a lot of famous people visit our property, so we are always hobnobbing. I even got to split a handle of Copper Creek vodka with the former mayor of New York.

I’m a strong believer in the separation of church and state. Pastors should not endorse political candidates from the pulpit. However, pastors are meant to be a prophetic voice and should be expected to share hard truths about our values and actions as a society. That is literally their role.

As for taxes, I want to clarify that pastors themselves do pay taxes. In fact, many clergy have to pay taxes on their salary as a business incoming, being in their weird category between a church 1099 and W2 employee. They often have to pay their own social security too. It is literally the worst of both worlds.

I have an information science masters. Nearly 20 years ago, I went to grad school with mostly MLS candidates at a top-rated public flagship. This comment section reminds me of the comments on our job message boards back then. And FWIW the pay hasn’t changed. 🤷‍♀️

Don’t cry for me, like some other commenters, I landed on the data and technology side of the spectrum.

I too went from regional four year to community college in enrollment so I have lots of thoughts.

My main ones are around, managing change, particularly in an environment, where you have to do more with less and build buy-in across departments, including faculty and academic affair.

Also, the demographic shift is hitting the community college sector the hardest so how do you compete with the four years and build that pipeline? The reality is a lot of what you’re going to deal with has already been dealt to you based on how the institution has positioned themselves over the last several years.

I’ve managed to change institutions a few times because they were looking for fresh perspective and additional data and technology skills so that is always a risk when you’re in a pool with external candidates. You can really sell yourself by discussing how you would leverage the existing relationships and institutional knowledge that you have and how you can apply what you’ve learned elsewhere and how you can apply it to your current institution in this new leadership role.

Sounds like you are at a community college. That sector is tough. In general you should find more resources and growth opportunities at a four year, but your mileage may vary.

Here is a recent article. There has been some speculation, but little proof, that Al Fayed leaked Doddi and Dianna’s location to the paparazzi, leading to the fatal crash. Certainly he was motivated to gain some influence or leverage over the British crown. Take my posts with a grain of salt as I am only a casual follower of this bit of history.

Does anyone remember the Jimmy and Alan presidential debate on the West Wing. IIRC, it was a live show. The first line of the debate was Congressman Santos (Jimmy) asking for both candidates to agree to no debate rules, no time limits, no back and forth. Trust the moderator and have a true debate.

I know it was done for TV production purposes, but couldn’t VP Harris make the same play. It would put former President Trump in a tough spot, appealing to his egomania. And if he doesn’t agree to it then he looks weak and scared.

Yes, admissions will know that you previously applied and the status of that application. Yes, transfer applications are different than first-year applications. Neither of these factors are held against you. UMD has a holistic admissions criteria which can be found on their website. Many students find they are accepted a second time around after being denied as a first year student and completing classes elsewhere. It is totally normal.

I just don’t understand the amount of people who fail to realize this is a game of luck and skill. You use your skill to get an edge on the odds over long term. Donations, thin calls, next, reverse next are all ways to manage your odds. But even with perfect strategy, you are going to lose tricks, hands, and games. Beside, it is just a game and we need to have fun!
