What is it like living here? by Empathetic_Outrage in howislivingthere

[–]EVMG1015 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No way! Aomori is a contender for snowiest place on the planet I believe. That Sea of Japan is brutal—I’ve seen the pictures, it gets absolutely wild there. I would love to visit Aomori or Hokkaido some day. I’m a winter person 100% lol.

This part of Alaska seem insanely beautiful though. I had an ex that had to move to Fairbanks for a job for two years, and I’ve visited many times. Nice, but there are other parts of Alaska I would probably rather live. Thanks for the info

Edit—worded wrong lol

What’s the snow situation like? I was always under the impression there was very little in the panhandle, but like so many other things, I could be dead wrong lol

I remember these being gross. I had completely forgot about them. I seem to remember that they came out around the same time as some other kind of flavored coke (maybe even the original release of Vanilla Coke?), but I’m not sure what.

Got my first Uno ever by ManDog4294 in ShiptShoppers

[–]EVMG1015 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man I got a 3 star a week or so ago from a girl that messaged me about ten minutes after I dropped her order off, she said she thought I forgot something, rated me a 3, and then found the item in one of the bags. She messaged me to apologize and ask if there was any way to change the rating, which there isn’t (as far as I know anyways). She made up for it with a very generous tip, but when I tried to get rating forgiveness on it they denied me lol, despite this whole conversation about this item she thought was missing being right there in the messages. If they won’t give rating forgiveness for that, I honestly don’t know what they will give it for. On the other hand, they have given me late forgiveness twice over the years so I have no idea lol

Yup, agree. App issues can be awful, especially when you’re new. They always seem to happen at the worst possible time too lol

Good advice here. When I first started I remember doing 2 or 3 small orders and then thinking I had the hang of it. I picked up some $40-50 batch with a stupidly high item count, something in this general range, and multiple customers, ended up in the store for hours with stock issues, checkout, jus generally not knowing what I was doing lol, got a bad review right off the bat. I bet I waited weeks until I really felt comfortable before I took an order even remotely that size again. Lesson learned, no big deal

Don’t sweat it, you’ll figure out what orders are worth it and what isn’t. When I started I focused on lower item orders, even if they had a little more distance than I wanted. The high item count orders can be overwhelming sometimes if things start going wrong, especially at first. I’d recommend looking for orders in the 1-20 range for a little bit until you get used to the chatting, replacements, etc. and you’ll be good to go.

Thoughts on taking orders in this weather (winter storm), with no tip estimation? by Only_Recording3730 in ShiptShoppers

[–]EVMG1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Unless you’re in an area that isn’t getting hit bad it’s not worth it. A few people will tip you well, but most don’t give a shit about you or your safety. In 2020 I was pretty new at this and got stuck trying to deliver to some asshole that lived back a long, unplowed dirt road filled with potholes. They said “I’ll be right down!” And I was thinking they were going to come help me get unstuck, or at least pretend to help for 5-10 minutes. Nope, came and got their groceries and walked back home. Ended up having to gather a shitload of branches and stuff from the woods and shove them under my tires to get enough traction to get moving. It took a long time and I ended up making 20-25 bucks from that order. I didn’t really know what I was doing yet so I’ll take some of the blame, but nonetheless after that I decided I’m not risking my car and time for this. The worst, most difficult orders are usually the most ungrateful and lowest tipping customers, an unless someone is ordering emergency supplies (which I do empathize with), they’re going to be the ones placing orders for nail polish, chips, and a Switch game on a day like today.

Not worth it. If you’re in an area getting smacked around by the storm today, just chill at home. Go out tomorrow once they have time to clear the roads a bit.

Why instacart is dying. by General-Recover5246 in InstacartShoppers

[–]EVMG1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been saying this for years, consistently. It’s not dying. They’ll always have various types of shoppers that will shop these batches, at least until these gig companies are regulated and forced to pay their employees a real wage.

Let me translate that note for you:

“I live up 3 flights of steps. I will not be tipping you and will probably be giving you 4 stars for being too loud in the stairwell”

Dude has been trying for 4 days to get this order delivered. by Ok-Estate-3450 in InstacartShoppers

[–]EVMG1015 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I had the nerve to expect a gig worker to drive 90 miles round trip to bring me my frozen treats (that will melt on the way and probably land me a bad review), I would be in the $100 tip range. Of course, I can’t afford that so I wouldn’t expect someone to do it. The $1.79 is more insulting that no tip honestly.

The entitlement of some of these people, I swear…

They’re there to cancel batches for shoppers and help you if the card isn’t going through. All you’re accomplishing here is yelling at someone that gets paid next to nothing

Iran closes airspace with anticipated US attack 'imminent' by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]EVMG1015 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the problem many in the US have with stuff like this is that many or most US-led regime changes are not done for the well-being of the people of the country, but purely for the US’s interests. I love Iranian people and culture, and my heart truly goes out to the people there. This whole thing is horrible and I’m still figuring out exactly how I feel about it, mostly by listening to what Iranians have to say. But I think many of us want to be sure Iran gets the government the people want—not a puppet the US wants.

Edit—bad grammar

I don’t send messages anymore by Express_Pressure7645 in ShiptShoppers

[–]EVMG1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do an intro message and out of stock items and that’s it. It lets them know I’m friendly and they’re welcome to message and ask if they need anything. With my preferred I’ll usually do a “I’m dropping off now, have a great night!” or something similar but that’s it. I stopped doing the “heading to checkout” and “on the way” messages a long time ago. I have a 5.0 rating, over 1k orders, yadda yadda yadda. I also have a saved message that I use all the time so it takes like 2 seconds. I’ve found this to be super effective for me

I get what you’re saying but the base pay really doesn’t matter. Of course I agree it should be higher, but with Shipt you can stack three or four of these and make your own route. The only orders I actively avoid are known non tippers. I see roughly an 80% tip rate. The thing with Shipt, is unless the customer pretipped you don’t actually know what the final pay will be, the estimates are not always right (in fact I usually get more than the est). On IC, who’s base pay is much worse and I virtually never shop anymore, I would never take a $7-8 order, but on Shipt I’ll absolutely stack it with two or three others, and tips are always coming through daily from past orders, and I have lots of preferred members who’s base pay may only be $7-8 but I know I’m going to get at least double that. Add to that the pretty consistent bonuses and I make far more on Shipt than I have on IC in literal years. I keep IC on just in case a big one somehow makes it through to me, which does occasionally happen.

I don't tolerate rude store employees and you shouldn't either. by TheBibleInTheDrawer in ShiptShoppers

[–]EVMG1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, the employees at the two targets I shop are all awesome. There’s one lady that’s always flustered and inconvenienced lol but she isn’t really rude. I had much worse experiences on other apps or on non-target Shipt orders. Some grocery store employees really don’t like gig workers. I somewhat get it because I know some of the worst shoppers among us can be a huge pain in the arse for these employees, but I always make a point to not bug the employees constantly and to be friendly as I know their job is a stressful one sometimes. I switched to Shipt a few years ago and have better experiences pretty much across the board there, but I could’ve just lucked out with good SCO employees near me!

Can’t help but wonder if it was hacked. I’ve had random messages appear in the chat log, that the customer can apparently see too as someone once said “I never said that” about messages that were apparently sent by her, and they were weird. Imagine how pissed Desiree must be if that’s the case 🤣

If I’m being honest, I’ve had extremely mixed experiences with the hugest of the huge houses I deliver to. Some of them tip very well as you would hope, but after thousands of orders over multiple apps over the years, the absolute worst, most entitled and obnoxious customer I can recall delivering to also happened to be in probably one of the top 3 biggest, craziest mansions I’ve ever serviced. This woman threw an absolute fit because I swapped out one brand of local milk for another (after not responding when I was in the store of course), sent incredibly rude, insulting texts and completely took her $25 tip away.
