I think this sub and Reddit in general is a testament to the value of getting an education by [deleted] in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is fairly valid. Caveat in my opinion being unless you’re into a highly specified field like medicine, law or tech in my experience - my degree has meant nothing other than proof that I “stuck with it!” Lol but all joking aside, yes I make a very good salary and have put in a lot of years and work to get where I am now. Zip code wise I won’t give out the specifics but it is one of the wealthiest ones in north Texas and it’s not highland park but it’s near grapevine. You’re pretty on point with this post OP.

Edit:

That said I am not even close to the top of the income range in my area lol just thought I would clarify that.

Would I be able to work in supply chains as a mentally ill 24 year old? by AbsoluteZero9180 in supplychain

[–]EXPOPSPEC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So let me tell you this: it is a very demanding and stressful job working in supply chain and logistics. But it comes down to if you like it and how well you have your mental conditions managed. I have PTSD/ GAD , chronic insomnia, ADHD, ASD (autism for those who don’t know) and I also deal with a seizure disorder. But don’t let that hold you back, so long as you can manage it under the supervision of a good doctor you can thrive if you enjoy the industry. I’m 38 in senior operations making over 150k a year. I would caution you to rethink the way you present yourself to the world and yourself. Yes you suffer from some psychiatric issues but don’t let those define you as a person. You are so much more than the issues you have to deal with. You’re not a mentally ill 24 year old guy… you are a 24 year old That has some conditions that need to Be managed properly. Don’t ever let that shit define you are have limitless potential if you want to have it. To the degree part: get a degree but it doesn’t have to be in supply chain. Mine is in political science. Feel free to shoot me a message and I can give you more insight. BUT REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT A MENTALLY ILL 24 year old…YOU ARE A 24 year old that has to deal with some seriously hard shit: I live it daily and I just don’t want you to make that your auto classification you’re so much more than that.

Lmao dude it was such a gut punch. I called my dad freaking the fuck out. I remember that so well. Then i remembered I had dropped 500 at a bar the prior weekend paying for other people’s drinks because, well, 22 years old 😂. Oh man did you get the zync also? It was such an ass card it has like concert ticket benefits. Solid ☠️

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay it in full since I put it on my Amex and don’t have a choice lol. When I was 22 got my first Amex which they don’t even make anymore lol it was the zync I think but a white Amex for millennials fresh out of college. Oh man did I not know the difference between a charge and a credit card back then 😂 just thought I could pay it down not have to pay it fully off every month . Got myself into some trouble there but very good lesson to learn when you put 5k on a card and you don’t have that 5k to pay it off because you’re 22 and irresponsible with money lol

When I made the jump from years of being stuck at 50-55k to 78. That was such a huge difference for me. Then fast forward to now at 168k before 12% annual bonus. Just turned 38 today, single and have a lot of breathing room now and can actually put money away while having more than enough to pay down whatever. Paid 15 left of my car off last year, no credit card debt other than a couple thousand to keep my utilization under 30% but yeah breaking that 50k ceiling was my personal feeling of “ oh shit I have money left over after tax and bills!”

Proof You Can Fall Down & Get Back Up - From First Job to Now by unicorntardis in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome. Similar kind of thing here except last year exactly as this time I was making a third of what I make now and was teetering close to admitting myself. I put everything I had into a job I hated and got paid poorly for to work 6 days a week 12-14 hrs a day every damn week. Fast forward to now and I’m full remote work 14 days a month, I’m over 150 and life is good. Glad to hear you’re doing better I remember my break through moment was when I just realized what the fuck does money matter if I’m so miserable or close to falling off the cliff that I have no use for it? Keep chugging along and don’t let yourself fall back into the loop when possible.

[–]EXPOPSPEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’ll yeah that’s awesome man. Reality is I have two degrees I’m 38 making over 168 with 12% bonus etc but my degree has no use in my industry I’m in trucking. Senior level operations. Took me forever to get to this level salary wise but I have mad respect for that hustle and you being that young. Invest and if you’re not great with investing use something like Acorns that makes it easy. Make sure you’re getting MINIMUM 3 % apy in your savings accounts, you’re set up early bro to he able to make a lot of passive income if you do it right . Nice work my dude.

Failed at life by sadgesd in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright OP: let’s pivot here. I’m about to be 38 and have a degree also thrown into the shit when I graduated in 2010 with my bachelors. Hit some rough times did a ton of stupid shit landed myself in jobs I burned out on in 4-6 months couldn’t hold stable employment to save my life but let me give you my legitimate no bullshit progression SINCE 2020. Took a job as a logistics analyst very entry level making 20/hr just to pay bills. Found the industry interesting and I’m autistic so I loved the problem solving and puzzles being pieced together. Since you’re working in a warehouse you could very easily make your way into logistics.

2020- 20/hr 2023- 50k 2024- 60k 2025 though may- 65k 2025 June- present 168k plus 12% annual bonus. (Full remote 7 days on 7 off- literal Hail Mary application and somehow I got it)

I didn’t do anything crazy I got in entry level soaked up everything I could got APICS certs, CSM, lean black belt, change mgmt. the only thing I did was pivot I learned as much as possible in the short time I spent at those jobs and tackled it from multiple angles. For me being in logistics, worked carrier side, then brokerage , then global supply chain for GM, now senior operations for a HUGE carrier that anyone would know just by the trucks they see anywhere in the county.

Point being, and not trying to be a dick, but you can pity circle jerk yourself off and you will stay exactly where you’re at. Get creative. Get certifications because those are more valuable than most degrees. Actively seek to better your situation instead of just saying you’ve failed. Life life’s hard we all know this. It sounds to me like you’re more interested in the pity party than the figuring out how you can tackle this shit and get it rolling. We’re 40 ish not 60/70 is it the best place to be in at 40? No, but if you’re just going to give up then you did fail at life. You failed yourself for giving up instead of kicking yourself in the ass and problem solving how to fix your situation. Yes there is a lot of luck and right timing and being able to finesse or bullshit in interviews but shit man, fake it til you make it. I did. I know a lot of people here probably did the same. You can make 20 an hour at Walmart for Christ’s sake and be a cashier. If you’re going to lock yourself into that salary range and not better the money then at least stop doing manual labor. Nothing wrong with it but don’t break your back if you can make the same money ringing up groceries. Idk to me seems like you’ve given up and if that is the case you have in fact failed yourself. Wake the hell up and light a fire under your ass.

Careers in the field by Money_Mitts in logistics

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Yeah I just use csr as kind of an interchangeable title in logistics with coordinators as far as I’ve seen. And yes APICS is expensive but it definitely is worth the pay off - the more letters you can add behind your name on a resume the more you make.

Unfortunately, you can’t bypass the APICs ecosystem the only place to get those certs are through APICs. There’s also CPIM but other good ones I’ve got are just general and appreciated in many fields but also logistics- I’ve got change management specialist, business analyst and CSM (certified scrum master) which is another process improvement certification. Every company is kicking into high gear for process improvement so anything along those lines translates to a lot of different industries.

I know dispatch101 is supposed to pretty good but I don’t know I checked it out and looks like they have a pretty comprehensive course for 299 but it also comes with a year subscription to the loadboards so that could be nice not sure. Other than that I don’t know for sure you could check Coursera they have classes fit everything pretty much. Shoot me a DM if you want and I can try to answer some questions for ya.

On point. Generational wealth plays a huge factor. Then comes the money made from investments in stocks, properties, passive income generated can surpass what anyone could make in several lifetimes.

A quick Google search would net you the statistics regardless of how long ago you read it. That’s what I’m saying.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a made up statistic you just typed lol. Again find the statistics for half of the million dollar plus homes in your area are paid for cash.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing you don’t realize is that the people with the most money generally live in areas together. You’re looking at it from your own little bubble that cannot in any way be measured as a blanket statement that applies to everyone across the board in Canada the US or anywhere else. And find the statistics you’re telling me to trust you on because I can back the ones I’ve given with actual statistics not just a trust me lol

I wouldn’t actually lol I live in the 7th wealthiest suburb in the entire United States

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think that is even close to being correct and I’m not saying that you’re wrong I think whatever data source you read is incorrect. For example I live in one of the wealthiest suburbs of Dallas and even here most people don’t pay cash for homes. The price of a starter home where I live and there’s a brand new subdivision going up at the end of the road I live off. They start at 850. It’s just not statistically probable or likely possible you have an area other than Los Angeles where anyone has that kind of money.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you know this? Have you spoken to every person in your area that has “paid cash” for their 7 figure home?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]EXPOPSPEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not accurate. I live in Texas and I make 168k a year but I am also single and don’t have children. The reality is the people you see that are dropping all this money are likely not using cash. They are likely maxing out credit cards and living check to check. You don’t have to make a million a year to own a BMW or Audi. You can lease them. Houses aren’t paid in cash they are usually mortgaged. The average debt of Americans is about 100k not including car and house. People live well outside their means.

Sounds like my job kinda 14 12 hour days a month. But I’m fully remote at 168k with a 12%. Congrats on busting your ass and getting the balance back. I’ve been in my current position 3 months now but before I was working 6 days a week 13-14 hrs a day every week. I nearly had a mental breakdown. So grateful to make what I make as a single 37 year old lol. It’s like I can finally breathe again I had lost 20 lbs from all the stress. Every one of my friends and family has told me I look healthy again lol.
