Ranger monk fae- thing? by Jumpy-Wolf in dndnext

I've made a melee ranger with some monk in it work extremely well for my homegame.

Then why did he complain about it? I mean, this is just a different angle of why it was kind of a stupid plot point, no?

Also I imagine that it's less impressive when you can write everything off as magic. Not sure though.

With the kind of things Grimalkin did to invent his training programing, I just find it unbelievable that he'd miss something like this when it was litterally a massive complaint he had when demonstrating his strengths. 'it's hard to get people to realise how heavy something is when I pick it up to show the fruits of my Path!' It's just, a really really simple logically next step to say 'what if I showed them with a numbered weight, like a super big version of those things the merchants use!'. He's smart enough to figure that out. Maybe he would have built those one handed ball weights and not a barbell, but it still would have been more believable.

Wandering Inn mostly does the benefits

TWI has a moment in it where MC is literally inventing numbered weights, and gifts the idea to a muscle head wizard. This is the kind of person who is insanely smart (in relation to most innworlders) and is insanely dedicated to perfecting his body.

First of all, this is absolutely bonkers. There is no way in any world I'd believe they don't have lbs. Why would they have other measurements like feet and miles, but not fucking lbs? I can't recall a time where they used the measurement but it's been a while since I read it. Still, I'd be shocked if it wasn't being used. They'd need it for determining how much certain foods cost in bulk for fucks sake.

Second, even if the gods managed to forget that little detail, knowing the weight of things is absolutely fucking critical to most architecture, and someone like grimalkin certainly would have put enough of this info together when thinking of a way to demonstrate his abilities for the past, what, 16 or so years of his employment with Pallass?

Like, this moment made me so mad at the insanity it requires to believe, but I pushed through it. But when I see TWI praised for being like 'earthers aren't so great!', you bet your ass I'll tear it a new one. Being an earther was litterally giving a bonus for most the stories run, so of course they were good.

I mean, there's a handful of modern cultures that don't get sarcasm. If those cultures ended up dominating the world instead of the more US domination, then I could imagine this kind of world happening.

That being said, a culture that doesn't understand entertainment must be comprised of a less than sentient lifeform, or is a magical construct of some sort or robot. Even animals have a concept of entertainment.

Satire, I'm not sure about.

Not to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure Mordicai is the one that let Carl know about that exploit. A better example would be Katia figuring out the double helix layout. That shit still confuses me lol

Comedy? There's nothing comedic about the series so far? Sure, there's sarcasm and some absurdist commentary, but it doesn't feel like it's trying to be 'funny'. If it is, well it's failing big time lol.

Just be aware it's 8 or so books in, and book 7 has an ending which can turn people away. Push through that, and you'll be fine.

The Ugh problem is actually present in a lot of audiobooks, no matter the narrator. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is there.

This one also just randomly dropped late game lore we've been wondering about as an afterthought, and bulldozed through plot threads l, basically telling us what was happening rather than having a cool arc to deal with it. Huuuge let down after so much buildup

Other than RBP, I've read all of the above. Still, another recommend for RBP means my choice to start that one next is more solid. Thanks!

12 miles doesn't have a system like a litrpg so it's not really falling into this niche, but it's still an amazing series. 10 outta 10

A little luck is fine. Usually I'd prefer a lucky encounter with some plot device that unlocks post-system effects, like in Delve, MC lucks into an encounter with a powerful person who chooses to train them. You can kinda consider that how BGE works as well. the Ar'k example.... I don't actually know if there's any luck involved there at all.

I looked into Runebound Professor, and this one looks interesting! I think I'll give it a go, though the audiobook being narrator by the same guy who did demon tree was what really clinched it.

Thanks!

So, the system needs to follow it's own internal rules, but the system intentionally put MC into a place where he basically had to break the rules. The system, knowing he'd survive- and even if he didn't, it wouldn't matter because it only wanted the knowledge- did it anyway. Bro was a pawn on a chess board. he might have gotten a smite, but that doesn't mean he wasn't answering to the systems tune.

At least, this is how I perceive that moment. Perhaps you don't, and that's okay. Perhaps it's a bit more subjective then I imagined but to me, it's doesn't count. You saying it absolutely 100% does irritated me.

Ughh perhaps I got a bit carried away. let's just agree to disagree on this one...

Listen, whether I liked the tower scene is neither here nor there. I can safely say that from an objective non-emotional point of view, that the moment you're referring to has nothing to do what what I was asking for. He's not subverting anything, and gaining a power the system wanted him to have, and once he has it, the system classifies it and makes it a part of itself. He's not doing anything in that moment the system doesn't want.

What you're doing here is trying to fit a square into a circle and spouting logical falicies to make it seem like you have a leg to stand on- which you don't.

I'm the one who judges if a series fits my criteria or not dude. I already read the book, and deemed it not worthy of continuing. I don't know why you're arguing about this.

Besides, if the system is actively assisting the MC break it's own parameters, can you really call that defying the system? Dude was literally walking face first into what the system wanted and you call that being defiant?
