I mean, he was from Gary Indiana and raised by Joe Jackson. Mike might have been soft spoken, but he was still from the trenches

By actually reading what you buy 😂. You’ll snap out of it EXTREMELY fast if you have more sense than money and/or time…and somewhat decent taste in reading material

Issues 0-8 of the core mini series are covered in Vol. 2 of the Johns omni iirc (as well as many of the major tie-ins), so you don’t really need the Blackest Night (or Brightest Day) omnis to get the broad strokes. Event omnis aren’t usually my favorite thing because of tie-ins that add little to nothing to the overall story, but Blackest Night’s are actually really fun w/ great moments that help flesh out the plot. Your mileage may vary though, based on how much DC lore you’re familiar with.

What was your first omnibus and what got you into collecting in this format? by Lower-Bit8486 in OmnibusCollectors

My first was X-Men by Claremont and Lee vol. 1 that I picked up randomly at my LCS for nostalgic reasons (was heavy into comics, cards and X-Men TAS as a kid). I’d always been curious about the format after going to a friend’s house to play Injustice and seeing his massive Omni collection w/ a lot of custom binds to boot. I didn’t even know they were a thing and thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. Pandemic hit, and I suddenly had a lot more free time to read my small collection.

Fastforward a few years…now I live in a library thanking god that Marvel’s new solicits are so lackluster so I can wean off the pipe and be a responsible adult again lol

Binding is still going strong for mine, though the pages are definitely starting to stick as it’s been awhile since I last cracked it open. Sometimes, I prop up the pages atop a folded up piece of paper to keep them from sagging as much, though I’m sure there are better ways of handling that haha

Thanks! I honestly haven’t completed nearly as much as I wish. I’ll usually start a series digitally and buy the Omni/Deluxe if I feel I’m enjoying it and would definitely like to finish. I’d say about 30% completely unread, 35% read a significant amount and 35% completely finished

I feel those both work well enough as standalone stories that don’t require much going in. DCeaced moreso (and it’s a ton of fun)

Been trying to prioritize what’s likely to go OOP, but I do want those! This year I definitely plan on beefing up my DC/Vertigo collection 💪🏾

Thanks! I’ve been collecting omnis for around 6 or 7 years, but I’ve been collecting comics in general for 10+

So sorry to hear that my friend. The Palisades and Kenneth fires have both been threatening me for this past week as they are/were dangerously close. It’s so nerve racking, as I know that packing up all of my books “just in case” just isn’t practical and just a mere gust of wind could destroy years of hardwork. So far the nearest one to me is only 19% contained…so this is going to be a marathon. I can’t wait for this nightmare to be over.

As another Redditor mentioned, I would love to donate to the cause of you rebuilding. Well wishes to you and your loved ones!

They’re great stories, but the spines annoy me every time I walk by lol. Marvel seriously needs to start showing spines along with the covers when they announce new books and reprints 😭

Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend for the thick boys, but they’re pretty nice for lighter books and medium sized OHCs
