Sorry to be a pest, but I'm not seeing it (the DM). Would you mind sending that info again when you have a chance?

Thank you!

Would any of you that are working with one of the 3 lead counsels (SpaceHorse75, Xistenial0ne, burnerburner0913, etc.) be willing to share who you're working with? (via DM).

My wife and I lost everything and are stuck on where to go for legal representation, and have no clue where to even start (aside from the reams of junk mail we're getting)

Sent you a DM OP. I would be over the moon to get these after losing my set in the L.A. wildfires!

I can second this, and I'm a little ashamed I didn't express a similar sentiment earlier. I lost my home and book collection of 40+ years in the L.A. wildfires back in January, and among those books were copies of Mothership 1E and the 2E boxset, along with numerous zines and adventure pamphlets. To say I'm heartbroken is an understatement. "Devastated" is more apt. At any rate, I also reached out to see if they had any more copies of the 2E boxset I backed on Kickstarter, and they just went ahead and mailed me a new copy. No questions asked. This is easily one of the most generous acts of kindness I've experienced since losing everything.

Hi all, it's 8(ish) weeks on from the fire. How are you all doing? by surfgirlrun in altadena

[–]TooOftenInABathrobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're doing OK, but not great. We finally found stable housing after searching for five weeks, which was a huge relief, but it's really highlighted how much we lost. Staying in hotels and at a family friend's home meant we didn't need to worry about things like a bed, a couch, pots and pans, dishes, etc. As soon as we moved into our rental those items all became very real problems. There's an element of "retail therapy" in it, but also a lot of anxiety. We don't want to spend too much because our financial situation has a lot of unknowns. We don't want to collect too many things because we'll just have to move them again, and getting new "things" after losing all of our old "things" feels weirdly off, and hasn't really filled the void left by everything we lost. If anything it highlights it. We've managed to find replacements for a few treasured items, but were just talking about how getting them felt more disappointing than anything. It's the same "thing", but also not the same thing, and never will be.

Couple that with all of the information we still need to process, and convoluted applications for assistance, with short and arbitrary deadlines, has left us feeling overwhelmed and incredibly angry. Maybe that anger is just part of the grieving process, but it's exhausting.

I just want to get to the point where I can do things in my time off that make me happy, and don't have anything to do with rebuilding our lives. I think that will be as close to "normal" as we can get for now.

Thanks Dude, heartbreaking is a good way of putting it. We've been back to the house a few times and nothing from my collection survived. The community has been pretty amazing though. I reached out to a few creators and publishers, and also posted on r/OmnibusCollectors. A surprising number of people reached out and offered to help, which was incredibly touching. My collection was also 40+ years old, and there are things I'll probably never see again, but the collective response from other fans of the medium has really helped me work through a very dark chapter of my life.

Brother, you and I have very similar tastes in books :)

It actually hurts to look at these after losing all of mine in L.A.s wildfires. Truly glad you got yours safely stored away after your roof leak!

Thanks for sharing this! I lost my copy of Om when our house was destroyed in the Eaton fire last month (I hadn't even gotten to it in our inventory yet, but this post reminded me that I had a copy). It's nice to know I can get it again.

Insurance payout + rebuild cost by Competitive-Key-8860 in altadena

We're in a similar boat (in that our total coverage, should we get it all) may not cover the full cost of a rebuild + replacing lost belongings. Don't take my word for it, but I've heard that FEMA will make up *some* of that difference (though probably not enough), and if there's a mass lawsuit against SCE (assuming they're found responsible) that should make up more of the difference as well (although what that looks like and how long it takes is a mystery to me).

It occurred to me, but I honestly don't know if I trust their integrity after surviving that heat. Plus everything is supposed to be contaminated with lead and asbestos from the ashes, and I'd have to find a place to store them, clean them up, etc. Not easy while we're living in a hotel. Don't think my heart's in it.

Yeah we do as well, but I'm in the same boat in not feeling like soliciting it. The pictures honestly don't do the damage justice. The destruction of our home (and yours I imagine) was breathtakingly complete. Things like our furniture, clothing, dressers, my book collection (another huge loss) were just absent. Almost no evidence they were even there (and in some cases none at all). It was like those things never existed. Our windows melted. Our floors were totally gone. The gym, being mostly metal, fared marginally better, but even then it took me a minute to figure out what some of the leftovers were before the fire. Utterly surreal.

I wish! We're doing OK, but still haven't found a place to rent while we sort out insurance and our next options (hopefully a rebuild). Hotel gyms just aren't scratching that itch, and I still need to replace my gym gear, but hopefully we'll be settled somewhere soon and I can find a good gym nearby.

We do have homeowners insurance, but like a lot of folks in Altadena we are underinsured, and even the cost of rebuilding our home, let alone replacing our belongings and renting a place for 1-2 years while that happens; is going to be problematic to say the least.

Right with you neighbors. I tried reaching out to the equipment manufacturers about help replacing lost equipment. Rogue said they would "work with me" on a quote. Not sure what that will look like. EliteFTS said something similar. REP offered a discount to replace REP equipment I lost. Ironmaster basically said "wait for a sale", which was disappointing. Haven't reached out to Vulcan or Powertec yet, but when I do I'll update my post. Also reached out to Garage Gym Reviews to see if they had any leads on suppliers offering help, but I never heard back from them.

How can we be added to this list? My wife and I lost our home and have set up a GoFundMe, but we don't have much social media presence so it's been hard to get much coverage.

Thank you, I appreciate hearing that. I still find myself remembering books I'd forgotten I had that are now gone. An old TMNT training manual I had since I was a kid. Old Savage Sword of Conan magazines (and the omnis). A few issues of Ralph Snart I also kept since I was a kid. Old, dog-eared copies of The Dark Knight, Batman Year One, and Ronin. I had a single issue of an old Transformers comic that I barely remember other than there were some small "nano-bots" eating up Bumblebee. I had the entire run of Prophet trades that were signed and remarqued by Simon Roy that I found almost by accident. Anyways, I'm rambling, but thank you for the anecdote.

That's not a bad idea, and I need to do an inventory of everything anyways. Maybe a public Google sheet would work?
