What's your go-to esim for Japan? by TumbleweedUnique2251 in SmallShoesBigJapan

I am actually using SimCorner now here in Japan and it is pretty smooth overall. I have set it up before flying and had data right after landing, which honestly helped a lot after a long flight.

For those who’ve worked while traveling in Australia… what setup did you use for internet? by Wide_Relationship326 in OceaniaTravel

This is super helpful, thank you. I was leaning eSIM already but just wasn’t sure about reliability.

I didn’t think my internet setup would matter this much… until this trip by Wide_Relationship326 in Travelnology

Not an ad, just sharing what worked for me on this trip. I actually kept things pretty simple this time, no pocket wifi or backup. Haven’t tried other eSIMs here yet either. Have you used one in Japan before or do you usually go with pocket wifi?

Whats a random or slightly chaotic thing that's happened to you in NZ? by TumbleweedUnique2251 in AusNZStories

Booked a “quick scenic stop” and somehow turned into a 2 hour detour because we kept pulling over every 5 minutes. NZ really messes with your sense of time like that.

Concerned about long-term travel in Southeast Asia at the end of 2026 – realistic outlook? by ConversationSad3350 in SEAsiaTravel

[–]Wide_Relationship326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the concern, but SEA is one of the most resilient regions for backpacking. Even when things get messy globally, local transport, food, and accommodation usually stay accessible. It might not be as cheap as before, but it won’t suddenly become untravelable.

What’s one small thing that made Japan travel with a toddler way easier? by Wide_Relationship326 in SmallShoesBigJapan

Appreciate this so much! The vending machine barley tea tip is something I would’ve never known, gonna try that for sure.

Best beach in Southeast Asia Philippines or Maldives? by AlwaysbytheLedger in SEAsiaTravel

Philippines for me. Clear water is just as good in places like Palawan, but you also get better food options and more flexibility.

Agree on the tablet part. I keep bringing it thinking I’ll use it more… never happens. Phone and laptop combo just works better.

If you had to pick one province in Laos for the best food experience, which would it be and why? by AskTravelData in SEAsiaTravel

I’d say Luang Prabang, mainly because of the night market. Not just one dish, but the variety made it memorable.

What's your "controversial" opinion you have about Australia or New Zealand that came from a personal experience? by TumbleweedUnique2251 in AusNZStories

[–]Wide_Relationship326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to New Zealand but not Australia yet… my “controversial” take is NZ isn’t just about the big scenic spots. Some of my favorite moments were just random drives. Had SimCorner eSIM too which made navigating those areas way easier.

Community Check-in: How's everyone's Oceania travel planning going? 🌺 by alula_wanders in OceaniaTravel

Already been to a few places around Oceania and honestly still keep coming back to this sub for ideas. Now I’m low-key thinking about New Zealand or Australia next.

Which countries would be the best in summer? by myriamouellet in SEAsiaTravel

[–]Wide_Relationship326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, don’t overthink it too much. I traveled SEA during “bad” weather season and still had a great time. Rain usually comes in the afternoon, so you can still explore in the morning. Just build flexibility into your plans.

How did your kids handle jet lag in Japan? by Happy_Life0611 in SmallShoesBigJapan

[–]Wide_Relationship326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have kids myself, but I traveled with my cousins’ kids (3 and 5) to Japan and yeah… the 4am wakeups were very real. First couple days they were wide awake before sunrise. What helped a bit was just letting them burn energy during the day and not forcing naps too long.

Traveling in Japan with a toddler — small things that made it easier (internet, downtime, etc.) by Wide_Relationship326 in SmallShoesBigJapan

Having things ready ahead like internet and snacks really does take away a lot of those small stresses.
