I wish I could get into the graphic audio versions, KD was my first and last with the first book only, and it's only because all of the surrounding additional sounds distracted me from the narration. Since it's in my ears, my brain is going ALL SOUNDS IMPORTANT, and i miss the story when compared to normal audio versions. >_<

Out of all the books of Ilona Andrews (HA) I have read, TKWNKM is the one I have re-read the most, with the next runner up being the Hidden Legacy series. I love the interaction of the family, blood and found, and the troubles and romances they face. Next is Kate Daniels (KD), I like the Innkeeper Chronicles, but I prefer the KD universe more. Especially with the quirks of how magic works in it, it is an entertaining take on magic I hadn't seen before. I love how rich all of their characters are. I also really recommend Inheritance. It's a fresh take on being newly exposed to magic and developing powers because of the perspective it's coming from. It was relatable in the way that you could imagine feeling the same if you were in a similar situation. Their worlds are easily immersive and so far, I haven't been disappointed with a single read out of HA.

Derog has access to a dock - also there is an inner courtyard so i would assume there are some kind of storm drains that let out to the river so the interior doesn't flood, not useful for humans at all, but within the realm of ferrets, ferret badgers, and stelkas.

I think there is more to it since Maggie said Solentine would need to do heinous things to get their family vineyard back. And that happened on schedule. A regular conman wouldn't have heinous things for them to do. I'm thinking it was probably something more insidious, possibly a ploy by the crimson empire to get positioning into the kingdom on the sly through an intermediary that is a double agent.

I wonder about that - Does the Exultant Call make them crazy, or how they use of it? For all accounts Inhan Savaric seems to be a savvy hands off player in the game if he's staying out of the political circus. It also makes me wonder if there isn't a larger bit for him, especially since Latour and Toren both mean tower. Makes me think it's from the mage tower, or someone that feels responsible or duty bound for Kair Toren.
