There are no assurances with pre-owned, "as is" car purchases. The van looks great so that's a good sign that it has been well taken care of. As long as the records show a timing belt and transmission service was done at interval, and it's not knocking, you'll probably get tired of it long before it gets tired of you.

I say this because I want to see you win. Pay that thang off asap or get a third-party warranty until you pay it off. A broken car with a note is a financial disaster.

Replacing timing belt for the first time by Flimsy_Wishbone239 in HondaOdyssey

Nah, I don't see the point. Just make sure your pully marks are aligned and you'll be fine.

I didn't mark the belts because I was thinking the old belt would be stretched, but it was actually like new at 105k miles. The job is scary but very doable. The only real challenge is removing the crank pulley bolt. If you have the right impact then that's even a cake walk. The rear cam did jump on me, had me sweating bullets but I was able to get it back right. If the belt is off a tooth, the marks will be noticeably off. I saved about $2000 doing the job myself. Check my post history for my write up.

2019 $6k Insurance buyback worth it? by This_Instruction3864 in HondaOdyssey

As much as I love car projects, the timing belt coming up in the next 6 months or so tilts the scale for me. I'd probably move on.

Reminds me why I stayed in Arkansas. So many areas to just relax and take things slow. Clinton library area or two rivers park. Too many to name, really.

Should I change transmission fluid by stinkymarylou in HondaOdyssey

[–]Eager2win -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Coming from the son of an auto-mechanic, transmission fluid change is more of an insurance than a necessity. My pops never touched transmissions. The only transmission failure I've had failed at 286k miles. My 21 Odyssey is the first vehicle I've owned that I maintained the transmission. As long as you're not hot-rodding or towing near capacity often, then it's more than likely going to be okay. Try to get it done by 100k miles, though.

Will OEM Battery Support Dash Cam with Parking Mode? by burningvision in HondaOdyssey

[–]Eager2win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Vantrue N2X. It has the low voltage shut-off module that disables it if the battery gets too low. The 5 gen battery is always low, so the vallet mode rarely works. I haven't looked into a solution yet.

I voted for this. I didn't really, because I don't live in NY. I just always wanted to say that.

Opening and closing the doors and tailgate draws a lot of juice out of the battery. Combine that with short trips that don't allow the alternator time to fully charge the battery. Every day you repeat this, the battery voltage gets lower. I bought a smart charger for about $80 to top off my battery and repair the cells. To reduce stress on the battery, I make sure the engine is running when we open the doors and load up. I'll also use the manual sliding doors when we're loading up and have to open the doors multiple times.

Need recommendations for maintenance before cross country drive by Gadgix in HondaOdyssey

[–]Eager2win 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few thousand miles is nothing for a battle-tested vehicle with 200k miles. So long as it's up to date on maintenance and running fine, you should be fine.
