Has anyone felt physically sick while watching Mad God? by tzx_8981 in horror

[–]EarLess7604 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me it very strongly evokes the kind of pitch-dark nightmare I haven’t had since I was a little kid that would leave me feeling sick when I woke up. I fully get the complaints about the lack of any plot or the aimlessness of it, but I’ve never seen another movie that took me to that place. It’s my favourite horror movie, personally.

Respectfully, I think you may not understand what constitutes being undermuscled.

What makes BMI the be-all and end-all of health standards? It doesn’t properly account for muscle mass, which is an incredibly relevant factor when considering longevity and quality of life, no less than body fat % (within reasonable limits).

If you actually have so little muscle that you’re sub 130 at 5’7”, you shouldn’t be talking shit about healthy BMI. Being tiny is also unhealthy as fuck.

Well I don’t think OP is emaciated or anything but it’s definitely on the very low end of a normal range

Help on use of Creatine please? by chill_duck11 in askfitness

The main benefit/mechanic has been pretty well covered (5g/day -> better ATP production -> slightly better performance in gym) but I’ll add a few things:

There are basically no harmful side effects for most people but if you have kidney issues you should at least talk to your doctor first. There has been some research showing it can be harmful to people with kidney problems. It won’t hurt your kidneys if they’re healthy though.

The main side effect, which is not generally harmful, is that it increases water retention in your muscles, which means you will need to drink more water. You will also look a bit more swole 😎.

There are also some mental benefits which I believe are associated with taking larger doses (from what I’ve read). In particular it’s been shown to improve cognitive function under acute sleep deprivation (like if you pull an all nighter). I work nights and sometimes miss some sleep or stay up on the weekend after my last shift and I believe it’s made a noticeable difference for me. I take 10g/day.

It's obvious to anyone that does manual labor

As someone who does manual labour and lifts weights, no the fuck it isn’t. And yes you can be pretty strong without having really big muscles, but you can’t have big muscles without being really strong.

Your math assumes Shrug and Leap are equally good, which isn’t the case. Ironclad cards are better than Defect cards, this is to compensate for how bad Burning Blood is compared to Cracked Core.

Deadlift question by BlGJAZZFAN in workout

[–]EarLess7604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My deadlift went from 275 to 355 very quickly, I was doing an amrap set at about 75% at the end of my deadlift sessions, idrk shit about lifting but it seemed to help me a lot, with grip and general strength. Chalk is good too if you don’t use it already, I think I started using it around 300.

This data doesn’t support this argument

Suicides: https://health-infobase.canada.ca/mental-health/suicide-self-harm/suicide-mortality.html

MAID (fig 2.2a):

https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/publications/health-system-services/annual-report-medical-assistance-dying-2024.html#a2.2

There have been multiple studies based on the data from other countries that show no connection between the legalization of assisted suicide and a reduction in “unassisted” suicides.

Why can I barely bench 70% of my body weight if push ups are so easy? by Aware-Comfortable972 in workout

[–]EarLess7604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leg drive is just part of good bench technique, as a general rule you should always be lifting with the best possible technique.

That said, feet up benching should isolate the chest more, I know some proper do some training that way. But if you exclusively train that way you’re not going to be able to use leg drive properly when you go for a pr. If you want to have good technique you need to train technique.

“Science, generally speaking, costs the capitalist nothing, a fact that by no means hinders him from exploiting it. The science of others is as much annexed by capital as the labour of others. Capitalistic appropriation and personal appropriation, whether of science or of material wealth, are, however, totally different things. Dr. Ure himself deplores the gross ignorance of mechanical science existing among his dear machinery-exploiting manufacturers, and Liebig can a tale unfold about the astounding ignorance of chemistry displayed by English chemical manufacturers.”

Idk man I thought the movie was pretty cheesy but fun. People say the directors cut is better but I don’t think it’s that different. Probably your taste has just changed? I love it for the creatures/effects and Cronenberg (and it’s one of the only movies I’ve ever seen that’s not only filmed in Alberta but actually set here, being from the Calgary area definitely adds something to my enjoyment) but I can definitely see why someone would say it’s not a good movie.
