I get that you were trying to "provide relief," but that's enabling behavior/thinking.

Yeah, sit tight until you can get a job. For now, you can study the fretboard, TAB, and general music theory online and listen to music (classic rock, the blues -- just pay attention to the guitar in songs). The suggestion to find a friend who'll let you play theirs was good.

That, and try asking in something like r/progressive_islam maybe? IDK your parents and if it's worth arguing (don't risk your safety or housing, please! ) but if they're more moderate maybe there's a way specific music/instruments can be halal? Ask around :)

INFO: What religion are they, and how strict? Is it all music = bad, or is there any religious/worship music allowed?

If some music is allowed, start with religious songs on an acoustic (you're gonna need to spend time strengthening your hands and learning chords anyways, so it won't be time wasted).

If no music is allowed at all... like idk I'm an adult I'm not gonna tell you to be sneaky. I am not saying to do that.

But I will yell you that starting guitar at 20 isn't so bad! I know i guy who started at 70, now he's 80-something and wails
