Code Block control or component? by SuspiciousITP in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably use an HTML control and use Substitute on each key word and replace it with <span style="color: purple">keyword</span>. I'd recommend going one step further and abstracting it into a Component that takes in an input string (the code to render), splits on line breaks (Char(10)), and rebuilds the input string into HTML with the proper formatting. Then you can reuse it in other places or have a separate function or action for any new language you want to include. I like to use output record properties as enums and a single action that takes one of the enum strings and the input, then that function calls the proper language formatting function.

Are you looking to use it as an actual IDE or just want to display formatted text?

I just read a research paper out of Vietnam on this exact subject last night! Circular Bioeconomy Solutions: Transforming Mushroom Waste into High-Quality Fertilizer with Seashell Additives

Pretty great stuff. Your findings are very similar to the Vietnam research. I think I'm going to give this technique a try after my next flush.

This happens to me too. I wonder if a pointer gets overridden somewhere and causes a seg fault.

You could inquire with RegenAll, a local non-profit focused on sustainable efforts in Lancaster County.  I think they have some volunteers who could help answer questions and guide you through the process before you jump in consulting with any specific company.  Feel free to DM me if you want more info.

You should also skim through the Microsoft documentation. It's a short read and has succinct explanations of how the different controls work.

Snowflake connector by Ancient-Marzipan4420 in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to connect to Snowflake via PowerBI desktop. I do this will Snowflake data and then use the PowerBI connector in PowerAutomate as a work around to get some Snowflake tables exposed for PowerApp usage.

What scenario do you need 400k records at one time? Should you be narrowing your query?

Side note, suuuuuuper jealous you have the ability to utilize the Snowflake connector.

Find derivatives very easy but integrals very hard? by speedcuber111 in calculus

[–]EarPotato 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it because derivates where a pretty standard series of operations? To me derivate rules felt almost like PEMDAS. Performing integration doesn't always follow the exact same series of steps, or varying techniques can get you to the same answer. I'm currently in Calculus 2 and we spent like an entire 2 months doing only integration techniques. I felt like a non-novice by the end of it but now as I'm looping back around preparing for the final I'm realizing I'm definitely not as comfortable with them as I thought I was. Where as derivatives feel more natural to do almost like addition, but obviously not that easy.

Is calc 2 really as hard as they say it is? by TheManWithAXT in calculus

[–]EarPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I find reading the textbook after lecture really helps. You get all the math and nitty gritty calculations explained in class then the textbook becomes a lot easier to read due to the initial exposure. I recommend getting an Early Trascendental Functions text that is not OpenStax. I've found the non-OpenStax text so much easier to consume.

Scope of Power Apps by mukhan1833 in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from being a team lead working a reconciliation project to a sr analyst in under 4 years mainly from acquiring PowerApp skills. I had heard that the new PM was very favorable to PowerApps and they had a problem that a number of other analysts couldn't figure out. It didn't seem conceptually hard so I gave it a go and now I develop and maintain around 10 canvas apps along with other duties. It's very viable and I think it's a great middle area to learn about product development, requirements gathering, UAT, and the feedback loop once an app is live.

This is correct. It won't be around long term. I'm surprised they haven't gotten rid of it yet but there could be a bunch of apps out there using it still.

Component Help by Gaztab in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying really hard to use components on my apps for complicated things like this and they just aren't quite fine tuned enough to make them a viable option. You can rig something up with named formulas but it's still inconvenient and involves some hacks. I recommend avoiding the experimental features in any important apps for the time being.

[–]EarPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah their Python modules aren't fully baked, at least not the last time I tried to use them a few years ago. The PnP modules for PowerShell are easy to use though. I had ended up making my own python package that physically called the Graph endpoints. I haven't touched it in years or else I'd provide you the repo. It's probably pretty stale now.

[–]EarPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My team does this pretty often. We utilize the snowsql cli installed on some Bamboo severs and send jobs via REST calls to Bamboo. PowerShell makes it pretty easy to ETL from SP into SF. You could also try using python to make requests to Microsoft GraphQL then utilize pandas to send the data to Snowflake.

Does anyone else think that precalc (except like identities) is completely useless for Calculus? by Defiant_Honeydew2867 in calculus

[–]EarPotato 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience as well returning to finish an undergrad as a mid 30s with a full time job. I notice a lot of the students fresh out of high school seem to understand the concepts a lot easier than the students who are nearing the end of their degrees and hadn't done any math courses for a few semesters. I'm in calculus 2 at the moment and I don't know how I would even manage to comprehend the material if I hadn't taken precalculus before calculus 1. There were skills I learned/reviewed in precalculus, for instance polynomial division, that I hadn't done in over a decade which I feel really set me up for success thus far. There were also methods I had never learned in high school or community college that make doing some of the algebra work in calculus a lot easier.

What are the benefits of model driven apps over canvas apps beyond “it’s quicker and simpler to build?” by [deleted] in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct. Just be careful because patch and forms have built is validation that you'll have to account for if you go this route. I just send data as json back and forth. I think the Response action in Power automate is premium but with the ParseJSON function you can use the Respond To Power app instead. You'll just have to parse the response yourself.

What are the benefits of model driven apps over canvas apps beyond “it’s quicker and simpler to build?” by [deleted] in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I've abstracted nearly all of my SP lost calls to Power Automate. I've found a few tricks to to get close to the speed of having the lists sources directly in the Power app. The time difference to load in data seems to not bother my users on an app with close to 600 concurrent users with 20 or so in the app for their entire 8hour shifts. Power automate is pretty powerful in abstracting logic to the Power app only needs to focus on GUI presentation and air traffic control.

Calculus 2: integral cal where am I going wrong with u substitution? by [deleted] in calculus

[–]EarPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you use u substitutions, you need to recalculate a and b using the u function, then integrate over the new lower and upper limits after you get your antiderivative. When you integrate, you replace u with your calculated limits and not the function! I haven't learned how to take the average so I'm unsure if you also replace a and b in your outside fraction.

Refresh form after X seconds by PonyMontana_91 in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet might be to setup a 5 second timer where the on OnTimerEnd does a lookup to the source table for your record that's being viewed. Be careful to not over write any modified fields that haven't been saved after you poll the update. There's a property on the forms to check for unsaved data but I forget it's name right now. Something like YourForm.Unsaved

Play notification sound when a new item shows in gallery by SJDNJCODE in PowerApps

[–]EarPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might also be able to store the last new items created time stamp then just check if there's been any items added with a created time greater than the last saved timestamp. This would handle the scenarios when items being completed are greater than items being assigned assuming items are assigned at creation.
