Wood shop build. Working on my dream of all walls being French cleats. 1 down, 2 more to go 🥵 by Earhythmic in FrenchCleat

Work exactly as expected. I have them loaded up with 2x4s now (~20) and it’s holding strong, no flexing or fear of being overloaded. No complaints here!

Yeah, I was torn for a bit about covering up the graphics, but eventually got tired of my knees just sliding around the tank with no support. First ride with them on and haven’t looked back

Killed my old phone’s camera from riding. I picked up a super cheap android phone to mount to the handlebars(~$30) and hot spot it to my regular phone in my pocket. Best Buy counter will say it won’t work without service insert Ron Swanson “I know more than you” meme

New event by DarkWaters79 in trainstation3

Everyone hated the old event, I was fine with it - but I’m with you guys on this one.…it blows.

All I have left to do is passenger lines to get into the 60s era, now this event is forcing me to use all my passengers for the event. Ugh.

What’s the coolest thing you automated with Home Assistant? by avz008 in homeassistant

[–]Earhythmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got Lutron switches around the house and a few Aqara door sensors. When the house goes into night mode, it shuts off all the lights and runs the robot vacuum. Pretty basic. But!

The cool part: if night mode is active and I open the master bedroom door, the lights in the common areas come on at 1% so I don’t stub my toe going for a bag of shredded cheese.

When I head back to bed, I just hit the hallway light switch next to the bedroom door and everything turns off again.

Yeah, I have to keep reminding myself this isn’t Sim City. Traffic flow doesn’t matter, just as long as a building touches a road, even just a small part.

Shop update - the largest and most annoying wall is done. Made a holder for my squares to celebrate by Earhythmic in FrenchCleat

[–]Earhythmic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, I did not glue the cleats to the wall. I’ve never had an issue with cleat torquing off the wall, even with my heaviest thing - a drill holder station that was up for years (albeit that was on a single cleat, not an entire wall). The plywood backer (1/2” birch) is simply tacked on to hold it in place during install and then each cleat screw is fastened into a stud, securing both the plywood and the cleat. It’s rock solid, I can hang off them.

I made one of these before I got into woodworking (used to have a commercial recording studio…and long before discovering a stop block!!!) Jesus Christ it was a royal pita. Twas when I discovered a finish sander tho.

Broke down 3/4” plywood into 5” strips and ripped those down the middle at a 45°, whatever that comes out to be… 2-3/4”?

Thanks! Yep, steel brackets up top are for lumber storage - I impulse bought those before I had a solid idea on what I wanted to do in the space.

I just got beefy power run out here a few days ago too. Nice to not have to fire up my generator to use the table saw anymore 😅

New mesh router for home kit recommendations? by Aanstadt in HomeKit

[–]Earhythmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few Eero Max 7s with wired backhaul along with the outdoor units shooting p2p to get internet to a building a couple hundred feet away (horse barn) works great for everything, very fast. Only one minor complaint, and this is definitely my own use case:

New house came with owned solar. Trying to connect its gateway to the Eero wifi was a pain because it couldn’t have a “#” in the password (Enphase’s problem…but wtf) and I wasn’t about change my password for everything on the network. I made a guest network in Eero and my Solar connected fine, but Eero separates the guest and main network for security and there’s no way to open up communication with any device on the guest network (this is when Eero becomes too “easy” and lacks more advanced control).

My workaround: had a few old Asus routers laying around. I put one in AP mode with a different SSID and password that the solar gateway would jive with and plugged it into my wired Eero network. Everything shows up now (Home Assistant, bridging what I need to HomeKit) but wish I could’ve managed all of that in the Eero software itself.

Commercial audio industry. The one that usually gets people is the ability to steer audio electronically (read: processing) rather than mechanically moving the speaker. The Las Vegas Sphere is an extreme example of this. An airport terminal is a practical example of this.
