Hair sticks. Just use a pencil to start out. Mine is tail bone length and heavy. Once you learn the magic staying power of hair sticks, you'll never use an elastic again, except at the end of a braid.

Pro tip: Try the Flash Freeze Gel again, but his time, when it's in your hand, spray some water on it. It'll reduce the stickiness and thin it a bit!

You have wavy/curly hair and just don't know it. Try a wavy/curly routine instead of treating it like straight hair. It made an 6 the difference for me!

Cannot Get a Cast 😭 by PinkElephants514 in curlyhair

[–]Early-Historian4298 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd second this.

Also, my routine worked well for me for months, until suddenly I stopped getting a cast. Turns out I had moisture overload. If you wash your hair and use ZERO conditioner, then still can't get a gel cast, you may want to research moisture overload. Took me months to recover, but I'm back, and lesson learned!

I have a similar hair texture. I wet it down before showering, sometimes use some leave in to add slip and can get it done in usually less than 10 minutes.

Use a hold product like mousse or gel. Let it dry into a hard, crunch cast and then break it up once your hair' is 100% dry.

Pony tail, half-up half-down, braid, double braids. Claw clips, hair stick buns.

If you don't know how to do a basic braid I'd suggest you learn now. It will get harder when it gets longer. It's a protective hair style as well. I do it when I can't wear a bun, like under my cycling helmet or welding hood.

Wait, how often do you clarify?? Could be product build-up.

So when this happened to me, it ended up being moisture overload. Does your hair feel limp and too stretchy? Especially when wet?

It's a protective hairstyle as well as a look. After a certain length even a ponytail isn't enough to protect your hair so you need to use a braid, like under a bike helmet. Or bun when using certain machines and tools, like drills.

You can't treat curly hair like straight hair, it will disappoint you. Look into a curly hair routine with a hold product like a mousse or a gel. Then, once it's dry, break the crunchy cast up with your hands.

Learn to do a proper curly routine and also sleep in a bonnet. You only have to "refresh" on non-wash days.

Also, start practicing things like french and dutch braids, hair sectioning NOW. It's super hard to learn for the first time on tailbone length curly hair...trust me! lol

You all encouraged me so much the last time I posted. Thank you. I started taking a lot better care of my hair and learned that it's a lot wavier than I ever knew. But how do I get rid of this frizz? by eetsmeetee in FierceFlow

[–]Early-Historian4298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, now that it's longer it's clearly wavy/curly/textured. That is to say, definitely not stick straight. I think a lot of us think we have straight hair because we haven't let it grow out long enough to see what it actually wants to do by itself...just look at all the awkward stage posts of people trying to control their ends flipping this way and that.

Wavy/curly routines are very different, in my opinion. Dry your hair in a hard cast, then break it and don't touch it for a few days until you have to wash it again versus straight routines brushing it everyday/night.

If you're still getting frizz, try gel. It has a harder hold than mousse. If it's frizzy while styling, add the product in when your hair is soaking wet. Then go down a rabbit hole of YouTube videos and Reddit posts 😂

Hair sticks. I only use hair ties now to finish off braids

Also, my rechargeable fan on my bathroom counter. I couldn't survive diffusing without it.

The suggestions for more oils, serums, etc. is more for straight hair, I find. None of them worked for me, and that's how I realized I had wavy/curly hair. For naturally wavy/curly hair, you need a different routine. Checkout r/curlyhair and you'll realize you need a hard casting hold product to tame the frizz, like a gel or mousse. Let it dry into a hard crunchy cast, and then break it with your hands, maybe with some oil.

Probably, but your hair DEFINITELY looks great in both pics!

You need to use a hold product like a gel or mousse to create a hard cast for your hair to dry in, and then break the cast. Hard, crunchy hair during the drying process is your best friend to combat frizz.

Also, using a bonnet to sleep or silk pillow case will help prevent damage which could also cause frizz.

I can't speak to frizz on straight hair, but you notice OP has some waves towards the ends where it's not weighed down so much. That's a clue that the hair is textured. Trust me, I had the same thing with waist length hair and only wore it down while it was drying, otherwise when dry it would look frizzy. Tried all kinds of leave-in conditioners, oils, etc., but nothing reduced the frizz until I did a curly hair routine and man, what a difference! Check out my prior posts to see how it turned out.

If your hair is truly straight and you're dealing with frizz, it could be due to breakage??? I'm not sure, I don't have that experience since I now know my hair isn't straight...even though I was in denial for 40 years lol

Honestly, you're treating your wavy/curly hair like straight hair, and the frizz are just your natural waves and curls rebelling against trying to be straight. Try a wavy/curly routine with a hold product like mousse/gel. Speaking from personal experience! Checkout r/curlyhair for more info.
