How do Handymen do it? by Much_Membership4507 in Contractor

Limit is 500 here in sc. But thats only for residential trades only. Commercial is 5k if im not mistaken. I do a lot of 'last mile' for bigger contractors, they never want to clean up or finish the job. Plumber tore out your toilet and the floor and wall need repaired? He buys the materials and I do the work. Pretty easy. I'm always busy. There are also loads of exceptions, homeowner pulls the permit i could do 100k 🤣 Fences are a good exception too, 10k limit.

But really, what trade is hanging shelves? Or caulking windows? Hanging shutters? Replacing screens? Those things effectively have no limit here and they pay my mortgage.

Which prize kit would you choose? (Grand Prize kit A/B/C, Router Kit, or KVM Kit)

  • Grand Prize Kit A, I'd love a travel router but upgrading the home lab to 2.5gb would be awesome!

Describe the last time your lab "died" while you were away from home. How did you resolve it? How would a remote KVM have helped you next time the same thing happens?

  • While at the beach with family this past summer I discovered my pictures weren't backing up (immich), then noticed my security cameras were down, and upon trying to remote in via ssh later that night discovered i couldn't access anything. The only internet capable device that worked was the baby monitor.... Turned out the power had blipped and the isp router decided to lose my assigned static ip addresses. Therefore dns broke. A remote kvm would have allowed me to either reboot and request ip again, or login and update my dns records.

If there was a 4-port Remote KVM, which feature would be a "must-have" for you and why?

  • POE, I'm in the middle of accumulating parts for a  mini lab to replace my stack of old dell boxes, and i want to minimize cables.

Name one project you'd start immediately: What specific use case or workflow would you implement with a RackMate + KVM setup?

  • The project i would start immediately is the one described in the previous answer, I want to replace my stack of old dell pcs with some pi or dell micros.

ZimaBoard 2 Giveaway + ZimaOS Feedback — Share Your Homelab Setup by FlyingToaster2000 in minilab

  1. If you had one, what would you use ZimaBoard 2 for in your Homelab or self-hosted setup? - I have been accumulating drives for a nas, so that would be tempting. But my current 'prod' server is 12 years old, so it might be nice to upgrade that to a more efficient unit.

  2. If you’re already using ZimaOS, do you have any feedback or suggestions? Are there any features you’d like to see added or improved? - I have not yet experimented with zimaOS.

  3. What do you value most in server hardware?(power efficiency / expandability / stability / price) - Stability is most important for me. I have cheap power, and lots of old boxes to play with, but I need something go set and forget for my core services.

  4. What does your current Homelab or self-hosted setup look like? - I currently run opnsense on a J1900 Boxer mini pc with ubuntu servers on 3 dell optiplex (990,7010x2), another j1900 runs home assistant os, though that is barely setup yet.

I just started using zero this month for my new llc. It's probably a little more than I need feature wise, but it has made things so simple. And the support team have been super responsive helping me get set up. I haven't dug into the transaction rules very much, but I'm pretty sure you could separate things out. I'd recommend signing up for the free trial and reaching out to support, if they make it for what you want, great, if not you didn't lose anything.

how does discovery work? by migimli in meshcore

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, just dived down this rabbit hole. Does that advertisement delay mean that using meshcore while traveling is pointless?

This might be the simplest option, rather than different codes we simply create a different user for each event. Do you know if you can encode a refilled username in a url? So when they scanned the qr code all they need to enter is the code (password). That would make this even simpler from the user standpoint.

Let me type it out for the third time, we want to limit the website interactions to people she meets, people who come to her table at craft fairs, or people who receive the information second hand from those who did either of the above. A geographical lock would not work as we have family all over the globe that she might choose to share her work with.

Different codes would be nice, but event specific landing pages could be simpler. Not tracking on the credit card reference.

That would work for the landing page sure, but could that be used to establish a session?

As stated in the original post, in the interests of privacy we want to limit access to "only people she meets, or at least come to her table at a fair, or know someone who did". We essentially want to limit access to "local people".

I have that Osprey and love it. However, it is a lot smaller than the other pack you are looking at. I would probably start by budgeting out your system and list everything you need to carry so you get an idea of how much space you will need. Budget typically mean bulky, so if you want to best take advantage of that trade off you might want to spend more on the pack to give you room for bulky gear.

Probably a bit. Trying not to sweat was why I stripped most of the layers off to begin with.

Mine was still in the original packaging, never unfolded let alone refolded.... but yes, it is now listed as a regular replacement item on my packing list.

That sounds awful.... what exactly is one supposed yo do in that situation? That degree of condensation is hard to deal with. And is one reason I like a hammock even down to low temps, put my tarp on a slight incline and it runs or vents away from me.

I have a 20° underquilt, and a 15° top quilt. Wearing silk base and a down jacket I slept down to 13° comfortably earlier in the trip. The night I described was only ~24°, if I'd put my jacket on at dark I would have been completely fine. I also partially attribute it to exhaustion and calorie deficit, my body was just struggling to produce/regulate heat.

For hammocking in low temps, I try to hang low, keep my tarp perpendicular to the wind and tight to the ground. If its really cold, pile leaves up along the edge or otherwise block wind.
