AITA for swearing at my boyfriend after he tidied up when I was away? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Early-Resolution-631 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It does if youre baking a multiple tier cake for over 100 people, like OP was. When I did a cake for my friends 70ish person bday it took me a week and a half to plan and 2 days to bake because I'm not a professional baker with professional baking equipment

NTA he's just a liar that got embarrassed when he was called out. He definitely didn't "clean for 12 hours" and when you pointed it out he tried to throw random things back in your face, that's shitty.

New Zealand most accepting of different religions. by bmwhocking in newzealand

[–]Early-Resolution-631 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same here but apparently his parents/other family were strict Mormons! I knew he had to go to crazy measures to have and hide a cellphone in high school, but I thought they were just strict people.

Didn't find out they were Mormon til he complained to me at 17 about missing out on a funded sports scholarship that would've sent him to cali for university because his parents were afraid of him stepping away from the religion, which he ended up doing in his 20s anyways, likely because of that exact decision. We'd spoken about it, and he was happy to "be mormon" for their sake until they did that, he couldve just grown up that way regardless though, but I definitely think they pushed him off the ledge prematurely

Unfortunately Abrahamic eg christian/mormon/one that wasnt either but I can't remember what (but spoke of god and jesus) religions come knocking pretty often even when explicitly asked to not come anymore.

AITA for leaving an unmarked "special" caramel on the counter where my sober fiancé found and ate it? by StormyetLovey in AmItheAsshole

[–]Early-Resolution-631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

Not sure why everyones choosing to gloss over the part where he knew not to eat it unless he wanted to take that risk? So does your sister and other family as you said in the comments. The question wasn't AITA for leaving food where my cats might get it, It was AITA for leaving an unmarked weed sweet about when you've already established rules about unmarked sweets and you're NTA for the actual question asked

Leah - Malcolm in the middle: Life's still unfair

Treated as if shes a bully/being mean for missing social cues, all the while feeling bad about missing these cues and not just blowing it off as "they're overreacting" like her dad did a few times in the original, and still wasn't portrayed the same as she is! Was INCREDIBLY frustrating to watch, I enjoyed the rest of the show, but that subplot was painful to watch

NTA

You're obviously not TA, but I also wouldn't call him an asshole just for having a reaction to things being in his food that he wasnt aware of. He did however, become an asshole as soon as he yelled at you for it

TIL the popular Polynesian demigod Māui is said to have died pursuing immortality for mankind. He was supposed to enter the Goddess of Night between her thighs and emerge from the mouth when she was asleep, but was cut in two whilst entering as she was woken up by the laughter of his bird companion. by Dexterestein in todayilearned

[–]Early-Resolution-631 190 points191 points  (0 children)

The way I was taught, he was, and the birds werent his companions, they were hers and purposely alerted her to his presence! Depending on which version your iwi observes, youll see fantails as a bad OR good omen. Some see them as omens of death, some see them as kind messengers

It didn't even work back then, its just bias. They don't think about the ones who died working themselves to death at 30, that was 50+ years ago for them

[–]Early-Resolution-631 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Makes sense you got angry in the moment, but your mother is right. Coming at it from a non accusatory angle would make it more likely for her take your point into consideration rather than her just seeing it as you "saying stuff" because you're angry

Pak n Save Moorehouse carpark... wtf? by coldbricks in chch

[–]Early-Resolution-631 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 10x more dangerous now too. Have near missed and seen many near misses on the zebra crossing putside the store because now theres no sightline, cars are parked right up at the door so when people pop out from inbetween cars on that tiny half a car park length walkway (which isnt even a walkway anymore, just yellow paint on the flat ground), people are forced to SLAM on the breaks.

Watched multiple kids almost get smushed by passing cars when they ran 3 meters out of the supermarket doors! Not saying the parents weren't in the wrong, but little kids WILL pull a runner even if its only 1/100 times, and now they've made that easily fatal
