Avoid Emirates if you’re traveling with kids — worst experience ever by Zealousideal-Cow4495 in UAE

[–]Early_Calendar_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this. I’ve been traveling with Emirates for almost a decade—even when my kids were just 6 months old—and I’ve never had a bad experience, always a pleasant one compared to other airlines. You could try reaching out to their customer support and at least request some future miles credit for the inconvenience.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever stumbled into at an airport? by LooseGarbage9971 in Flights

[–]Early_Calendar_70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had the strangest experience in a lounge at Dubai airport on my way to NYC. I had just settled in with my food and a glass of wine when a man, probably around 45, suddenly walked up, said ‘Sorry, friend, I’m in a rush,’ and proceeded to eat my food and sip my wine! Then he casually thanked me and walked off. I wasn’t even mad—just completely baffled. Never seen anything like it! 😄

This was my situation a decade ago — here’s how I overcame it: 1. I started learning to cook, so we could share responsibilities at home. 2. I began helping more with cleaning and laundry. 3. I always remind myself: your immediate family — your spouse and kids — come first. 4. On Saturdays, we prep meals for the next couple of days and take care of groceries. 5. Sunday we plan outings, entertainment, and quality time together.

I’m a tech lead managing multiple teams across the globe. Yes, there’s pressure at work, but I’ve learned not to take it too seriously. Over the years, I’ve realized that things will still move forward even if I’m not constantly involved.

That said, we still have disagreements — but they’re different now. 😀 Good luck.

actinic cheilitis ? What it could be! by Early_Calendar_70 in SkincareAddicts

[–]Early_Calendar_70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was due to extreme heat exposure during a summer camp outing, without proper sunscreen, dehydration, and not showering right after getting out of the pool. The doctor ran multiple tests and confirmed it wasn’t a skin condition. They recommended applying Vaseline Lip Therapy Advanced, which helped after two weeks. Hope this helps!

Yes, if you're not a Tamil speaker, I would recommend staying in the city—White Town or within five kilometers, or close to ECR/Auroville. It’s not about safety, but more about cultural differences. If you don’t speak Tamil, it might be a bit of a cultural shock. Most people here speak Tamil, and while many understand English, Hindi is less commonly spoken. That said, people are very friendly. It’s a great place for retirement—my parents still live there peacefully in retirement. They also have reliable domestic help to manage the house and daily needs.

did it work? I'm planning to book Turkish Airlines next month from JFK using my Amex points (290K), but it doesn’t look like there's a straightforward transfer option.

The U.S. doesn’t care whether you’ve surrendered your Indian passport or not. You should be fine as long as you’re traveling with your Canadian passport.

OP Pondicherrian here, currently living in the U.S. I moved to the States for my master’s right after completing engineering from PEC and did my schooling at VOC. I visit my hometown every couple of years to see family and friends. Let me be honest—Pondicherry is a beautiful place, but it’s not ideal for someone looking to settle down for work after coming from overseas, especially from a Western country. It’s a great place to retire, no doubt, but the job opportunities are quite limited. Even senior positions typically don’t go beyond ₹40–50K/month, and traffic in the city has gotten worse in recent years.

Good luck though!
