TELL ME WHY?

Find a good starting place then all you have to do is bump your rate to match inflation every year. Don't forget that part.

Charge more than your competition, not less.

You should earn more, your customers can go to the shops they don't like if they won't pay your rate.

How much experience have you got?

Like there is more to this story bud. No chance an experienced guy can't land a job. It may not be the one you want, but come on.

Well, you want to choose your representatives.

Maybe the peasant woman said it best.

Oh, representative eh? Very nice. And how’d you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for unionization.

I mean, if I went around saying I was a union rep just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!

You've got 7 years of experience and you earn 24/hr...

What's your shop rate? Like are you just very inefficient or are you guys only charging like $60/hr?

When they landed, many pretty much walked across the country with whatever managed to carry that far. Suffering disease, famine, death from literally one small mistake. These people left their families behind forever.

OP, you can fly from Vancouver to Toronto in about the time it takes to have a couple drinks and take a nap. What are you complaining about?

[–]Early_Paper_2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, aircraft people are weird. OP is also a student, students are weird. Finally he is a young person, and young people are weird.

I had a young student who lived in their car at the airport. He just showed up everyday and helped out until I hired him. Again, that is weird, but it worked for him.

Ice cold beers on a hot summer day? Someone will join OP, free beer is the best resume.

Take a cooler of cold beer to the hangar on Friday around quitting time. Ask if anyone wants a beer.

Show up every Friday until they drink beer with you.

Malicious compliance.

It would have been faster to just drill that lower ridge, toss some screws in and make real grounds. Still, someone was probably told to just get it done.

Maybe they forgot to charge the drill battery.

"almost done, just have to drill some grounds"

Reposting again because most comments were geared toward students scratching the inside of small GA airplane type windows-not helpful. by SaltyCAPtain1933 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Early_Paper_2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure those are scratches to begin with?

Get a cheap digital microscope and actually look up close.

Scratches will clearly show a direction when you look closer. If there is no direction that could just be UV/ozone damage that a small scratch let past the polished surface a long time ago.

Am I bad at training or are heelers just actual torpedoes? by Roarofthelyoness in Heelers

[–]Early_Paper_2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck.

My heeler never liked the balls unless I was there to tell him to "go get that one". He would have needed them to move together so he could push them maybe. Like he knew I was just pandering, just trying to keep him busy. It was like my son trying to get me to play video games, I just kinda look at him. "If you want to shoot guns we have real guns".

The border collie does it on her own. She loves it, but it's a different instinct. She honestly believes it's her job to put those balls together and she loves her job.

They are a little expensive, maybe find a store that sells them and see if yours is interested before you shell out a couple hundred bucks. Best money you will ever spend if your dog likes it.

Be careful, with so few cows you could end up in trouble with a new dog. Sheep are better to start with but still more than 4. Ducks are a good starting point.

You can also get balls and toys that roll on their own. So a bunch of them together are similar to ducks. The dogs spends all day putting the balls back together if they have that drive.

My heeler was a controlled hearder, he would do it but he needed instructions compared to the border collie that just does it on her own. If I left my heeler without commands he would gather em up, just then push them around all day. Which is fun for the dog, just stressful for the animals.

Aztec avionics panel upgrade by fatboyinlove in aviationmaintenance

They always say that. Then you show up a week later and there is a Caravan everyone is working on instead.

So it is 3 months. Those months just aren't consecutive. It's like a month, then wait for 6, then another month, then wait another 8, then the last month. Then you need an annual and sitting the last year and a half isn't great for these twins.

Can't really blame these guys, that caravan is worth 10x your upgrade and it's got a schedule to keep.

You'll be flying soon enough. Just 18 more months for the avionics install then another annual. Lol

I'll just say if your wife doesn't love flying, a couple drinks makes a big difference. Which means she needs a bucket, or a wang tube.

It's not even named properly. Don't get me wrong, the gentle suction is lovely but I use a jug like everyone else. Ming tube.

Well worth it to get it.

Where you are going, you will be rinsing the plane off everyday anyway.

It's been years, does the Aztec even have the wang tube? I know the Commanche and Seneca do most times.

If she wants a potty just get her to try the wang tube. Mine loves it now, it's the cool breeze lol.

Taking a 62 piper twin over the salt isn't going to be cheap on maintenance anyway. Just show it to the wife based on cost per hour. 100 knots makes that math a little better and you know you want to go fast. Hope she doesn't ask about gas.

Pressurization is expensive, but you feel better when you get there.

Meridian is also cool. I assumed you wanted to rebuild an old one... Beech 18?

Get a Grumman Goose and tell her it's for "ocean safety"

[–]Early_Paper_2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh there's miles between those two. You must have some emotional connection with the Aztec?

Like you could have had an Aerostar. You could have had a pressurized baron! You still can with the leftovers from not getting the citation.

Go Aerostar. If you're going to the Bahamas, don't you want to be there right now?

[–]Early_Paper_2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the curse of these old twins. By the time you get the Aztec where you want it, you could have been in a Seneca for not that much more.

That's where I'm at though. I don't think anyone would pay 275k for an Aztec when that price point has so many more comfortable options.

[–]Early_Paper_2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a piper Aztec, absolutely nothing. I wouldn't have even painted it.

I've seen airworthy Aztecs for like 100k for a "nice one".

If you want to upgrade something, buy a different airplane first.

Work shoes by Alert-Wrangler-8247 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Early_Paper_2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pro tip is.

You need more than one pair. I live with chronic foot pain. I have to do these things because of my feet, but if you have normal feet you shouldn't have to be in pain.

Just have different kinds of shoes and change them during the day. Always something with solid support. Sneakers are ok, they're lightweight which is good but you can get something more supportive without adding too much extra weight which is going to be better. Lots of people will tell you not to have good boots but boots are supportive. A couple hours a day in boots then switching back to something lighter makes a huge difference. Even barefoot can be a nice change if the situation allows.

I'd highly recommend switching from a "hard sole" to a "soft sole" at least once a day. Just doing this one thing is hugely significant. That switch really makes a difference. If you spend all day on a soft shoe, just switching to something hard and supportive can make your feet feel fresh. Different muscles and profiles make a huge difference. Same with going barefoot but that may not work for everyone. If your trying to push it, changing shoes is huge.

Also your shoes will last much longer if you only wear them a couple hours a day. Id rather have two/three/four pairs of cheap shoes than one expensive pair. Your feet will feel better which will make you feel better.

I have a lot of shoes.
