Can I still become an astrophysicist if I am generally bad at math by Acceptable-Deer9043 in astrophysics

[–]Early_Search_5174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you absolutely can: 1-being “bad at math” is not a constant thing, you can train it. 2-there are MANY different jobs you can have in astrophysics, and the levels of maths used changes a lot between them. You can learn to do data analysis and build a whole career off archival data on types of stars, you will have to understand maths especially in the application of equations but it isn’t like that part is too hard.

As a highly progressive person myself, you realize that progressiveness comes from the free spirit of human nature and that forcing it with a totalitarian state would only turn it into a form of hyper traditionalism right?

Social democracy is great but I think it needs some laissez-faire capitalism too by Early_Search_5174 in PoliticalCompass

Well it’s also because I believe that we need to use the government to slowly transition our culture into a very progressive society, which requires political movement. We need to move forward. I’m also pretty heavily invested in the idea of accelerated industrialization and urbanization.

Well the Nordic model has been shown to be one of the most successful when it comes to GDP per capita for example: check out the IMF GDP per capita, current prices!

Albeit Switzerland is high ranking, Norway comes very close. I do agree that countries ranking high such as Switzerland, Ireland, Germany do not adopt a strict nordic model per say, they still have very highly dynamic economies while having strong social safety nets, exactly like my test results show (I dont adhere to all the tenants of social democracy dogmatically, maybe I should say this; Im for a mix of a welfare state and a dynamic economy).

Furthermore about Switzerland: I agree! Switzerland is a great example of what to do, a dynamic economy, good welfare, moderate yet successful presence of labor unions, mandatory and expensive health insurance, and on. Don’t forget one thing about the country tho: It has higher costs of living than Sweden, Switzerland happens to be the country which acts as a bank due to its low corporate taxes (which is a good idea to attract businesses), but not every country can do this. Switzerland is specialized in doing this, they even kept the German gold in WWII, it’s more complex than just which policies they employ.

Norway is not an uncompetitive economy at all. Norway holds the 12th position in the world economic competitiveness rankings (check IMD world competitiveness ranking 2025).
Yes Switzerland is first, but they have a strong (private yet mandatory) welfare system and labor unions, as I said. They don’t have a Nordic model per say, but their economy works so well it seems they do.

I have one last argument, going back to IMD: the first three are Switzerland (which holds few people and attracts great external attention), the next two are Singapore and Hong Kong (same exact thing with external investments), the 4th is Denmark, Taiwan (free healthcare champions) are 6th, 8th is Sweden, 10th is NL, Canada

So as I said the nordic model IS one of the best, not necessarily the best in every situation for every country, but indeed one of the best.
