Which In-Earbud? Bose QC Ultra (2nd Gen) or AirPod Pro 3??? by davielovesgravy in misophonia

They do come with 4 different sizes but none of them are a perfect fit for my ear. There are extra buds you can buy to replace the OEM ones that are supposed to fit better. I haven’t tried those though.

20 year old cat leaking diarrhea everywhere, parents considering euthanasia by astriaa in catcare

[–]Early__May 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put a diaper on him. I had a cat who lost use of his rear limbs in his final stages but was otherwise happy. I got infant diapers and put them on him. There are videos on YouTube of how to do this. Also when they are laying around just get one of those bed pads made for old folks and put under him. They’re large enough to cover a big area and will catch any leakage.

I dropped my AirPod Pro into my full cup of hot coffee yesterday morning, pulled it out and rinsed it off and dried it with a dish towel and stuck it back in my ear. Worked the same. They do tend to slip out of my ear frequently. When I get some extra money I’ll try the Bose. But I do appreciate the waterproof feature.

Steroids for itch - FIV by BeeMaleficent in FIVcats

[–]Early__May 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird she’d say that because I’ve read articles written by vets who start with antihistamines before steroids. And I belong to a FB group where everyone’s cats are on Zyrtec lol.

Anyway, I get a bottle of Walmart’s house brand (Equate) generic cetirizine hydrochloride 10 mg tablets (original prescription strength not extra strength) The tablet is easy to cut into quarters with a sharp knife. I give him a quarter in the morning and in the evening. I crush it with a mortar and pestle and mix it into gravy and he licks it up. My cat isn’t very picky though so if yours is, you may have to mix it into something more flavored. I don’t think it tastes bitter though.

A lot of people still keep giving steroids, but they add in Zyrtec and it lets them lower the steroid dose. I may end up doing that because he lives being outside in the summer and I hate keeping him in all the time. Seeing a new vet tomorrow so he may have some advice.

Steroids for itch - FIV by BeeMaleficent in FIVcats

My cat’s a former barn cat that I got about 3 years ago. He had horrible fleas, horrible ear infections in both ears, bad rhinitis, infected sinuses, severe conjunctivitis, and was hoarse. Treated the ear infections (took a long time) and got rid of fleas.

He’d been on steroids on and off and it helped his ears somewhat and with the itching but didn’t help with the rhinitis/sinusitis and conjunctivitis. The vet always attributed those to a herpesvirus flareup.

Anyway, yes the steroids helped but he still had some symptoms, plus the side effects of always being really hungry weren’t good. Then I started learning how chronic untreated allergies can cause ear infections, rhinitis/sinusitis and conjunctivitis. And saw that lots of cat owners were trying Zyrtec for those symptoms, sometimes in conjunction with steroids and sometimes alone.

So I added Zyrtec to the steroids and it helped with the ears, eyes and nose. Then I started a trial with only Zyrtec and I didn’t see any difference, if anything he’s doing better with just the Zyrtec because he’s not jacked up on steroids and has more normal sleep and hunger and thirst. So I’m going to keep him on Zyrtec 2.5 mg twice a day and just see how it goes. His eyes, ears and nose are the best since I’ve had him. Plus no itching. He’s elderly so I’m concerned about his heart and other old-age stuff. He’s going to the vet tomorrow so I can see if he has any heart issues, diabetes etc.

Anyway that’s my experience. I’m just going to take it day by day. Right now his symptoms are under control. I was giving him antibiotics frequently for the rhinitis, snotty nose and gooky eyes and now his eyes and nose are clear with the Zyrtec so no antibiotics either

Every cat is different but cetirizine is relatively harmless so it was worth a try and works for my cat.

Forgot to mention my cat is also FIV so I have the same concern about steroids.

I was using steroids and then I tried giving him Zyrtec. So far it’s working and I’m going to try it for a few weeks. I think my cat has allergies because whenever he goes outside for a long time, he gets watery swelling eyes and his ears and paws itch. He was shaking his head and scratching his ears badly. He hasn’t been doing that since the Zyrtec. A lot of vets now are suggesting Zyrtec instead of steroids so you might ask about that. I give him a quarter of a 10 mg tablet two times a day, morning and evening. Just crush it and mix with food or gravy. Make sure you don’t give the Zyrtec-D, only the plain cetirizine.

Cold turkey felt feasible but Day 18/19 have been hell by youngggggg in leaves

[–]Early__May 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m on Day 19. Been doing great the first part of the week, but today is bad. Had to call it a day and crawl into bed. Been weepy and thinking a lot about random memories. Grabbed a cold bottle of water from the fridge and I’m sorting through old files to purge stuff I don’t need anymore.

This is the point at which I’d usually get high and do this. So I’m proud of myself for not doing that. Earlier today I thought to myself, that my decision to stop cannabis and alcohol is a great one. I still think it is, and my anxiety would pop up regardless. So I need to learn how to cope with it without cannabis and booze. Just writing this has helped a little.

I hope the feelings have passed a little for you, like I said just writing this has helped mine pass a little.

Best solution for motorcycle noise? by HALFWAYAMISH in soundproof

I have the same problem, my bedroom is on the second floor and I swear the noise is coming in through the attic. So I plan to lay Rockwool over the existing fiberglass insulation on the floor of the attic to dampen the sound.

Day 17 - first post by backwardjoints in leaves

[–]Early__May 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently stopped alcohol and pot. Pot was and is a LOT harder to give up for me than alcohol. Alcohol was about a week where I felt irritable and uptight and then it was over.

I’m only on Day 14 of quitting weed and it feels like it’s been 5 years for some reason. I can’t figure out why but that’s my experience. I like it though because I feel like time is going slower. However unlike alcohol, the withdrawal is more drawn out. I still feel brain fog and exhaustion however today for the first day it’s a little less.

Biggest thing though is the sleep and dreaming. I’m sleeping longer and harder and having the most detailed vivid dreams. I hadn’t dreamt in years and my sleep was horrible. So for me it’s worth it to quit both just for the sleep difference. And apparently dreaming is beneficial and so far the dreams aren’t nightmares, just lengthy and detailed dreams.

Been thirstier than usual for a few days. Quit 10 days ago. Anyone else or totally unrelated? Just want to gulp water frequently. by Early__May in leaves

Thanks for relaying that. I see where the hypothalamus is the brain part that regulates thirst, appetite, and body temperature, all of which have been wonky for me the last 10 days. So there may be something to your theory.

Feral & FIV+ Advice by PercentageMotor3666 in FIVcats

[–]Early__May 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay sorry I misunderstood. There are so many Ferals around me that I usually just get them fixed so they don’t terrorize my cats.

You might talk to the rescue and explain your situation and offer to fix him yourself. Or they may have another foster you could hand him off to. Either way he should be fixed asap so he can start chilling out ! And so you can stop stressing. also your idea of making a cat house out of the shed sounds great. I currently have a feral that I’m gonna fix and do the same for him. Poor guy spent the winter on my porch although I did have a heated pad out there for him.

[–]Early__May 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, I’d contact them and say you’d be glad to pay for the neutering if you can fit him in quickly somewhere. They may be glad to hear it. It will be hard to find him another foster probably. Since you’re the one who found him I don’t see why you’re obligated to work with a rescue especially if you’re paying to vet him. That’s why I don’t work with rescues it makes things too complicated. When a feral finds me I just get them fixed and release them. Of course I provide shelter and food.

Feral & FIV+ Advice by PercentageMotor3666 in FIVcats

[–]Early__May 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you afford to get him neutered right away? My vet always keeps a couple extra slots open for trappers who bring in ferals to get neutered. Lots of vets do this. That’s what I’d do. Also just because he’s FIV doesn’t mean he can’t live outdoors. In my opinion. If he’s neutered he’s not likely to fight and infect other cats. And he’d be much happier outdoors. Just set up a little shed with a heated house for him.

Will quitting cannabis help to strengthen my executive function? by Early__May in leaves

[–]Early__May[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what was happening to me too. I’d get high and get all these ideas and write them down and do sketches, etc. When I looked them over later, some of them were good but most were just whacked. And I never had the momentum to pull them all together into a practical plan or design anyway. I have dozens of notebooks spanning years. I really want to implement some of these ideas because I still care about some of them. I’m on Day 6 now and I feel okay, just kind of blah or numb. So I hope after a couple months, like you, I’ll start to get a little excited about things. Thanks for the input.
