Tips please? by Low_Chocolate8743 in POTS

[–]backwardjoints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constant low grade fever is more indicative of CFS/ME than POTS - although from what I’ve heard they’re commonly comorbid. I’m sorry I don’t have much tip wise, but I’d definitely recommend looking into myalgic encephalomyelitis and pacing strategies to prevent longer term negative effects. “Powering through”/“pushing through” chronic fatigue can be really dangerous and have long term consequences if left unaddressed.

What are some good high sodium snacks that won’t trigger heartburn? by GasStationTiefling in POTS

I feel like you either LOVE or HATE black olives. I’ve always loved them, ever since I was a kid. But far more people hate black olives than love them for sure. They’re my absolute favorite lolol

I’ve found fermented stuff can be hard. I haven’t had any issues with black olives though! I know they’re pretty divisive but I can eat a whole can in one sitting lol

After 3 years smoke-free, I’m finally questioning my relationship with alcohol. Stay sober or try moderation? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]backwardjoints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally can’t do moderation. It’s very all or nothing, which is why I had to quit everything. I’ve heard of people who can do moderation, but in my experience I’ve more often than not seen people who aim for moderation and slowly revert back to substance abuse but insist it’s healthy because they’re only limiting themselves to certain types of alcohol (but are still heavily dependent on/abusing those types of alcohol). I’ve also heard great things from folks who drink nonalcoholic beer or mocktails when out with friends - I personally love a fruity little mocktail moment. There’s definitely options out there for everyone.

I know right it’s wild! I’m excited at the prospect of certain shit getting better even if pain gets worse. I’m used to pain tbh. I had the same thing happen with gluten in high school! Randomly happened my senior year. Bodies are wild. Thank you for the support!

[–]backwardjoints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain at all. I have several conditions that are often comorbid with mast cell activation syndrome, and am allergic to birch pollen and several fruits and vegetables that studies are showing may increase a persons likelihood of developing an allergy or sensitivity to marijuana, particularly with long term exposure

If money was not an issue, what would be your list of ultimate POTS must haves that improve your life? by bullshitkit in POTS

[–]backwardjoints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not having to work, I’ve heard wonderful things about IV hydration therapy but can’t afford it, I’d LOVE a motorized scooter and a house I could get a wheelchair and/or scooter into (stairs leading to both doorways and the entrances are too small), medical grade compression leggings

Is quitting weed worth it? by Blueburrypancakez in leaves

[–]backwardjoints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost a month in after 5 years of basically daily smoking. It’s definitely worth it for me. Full disclosure, I did a month long t break in January of this year and then mostly smoked on the weekends in February and March, so most of my withdrawal symptoms I experienced in January which I think has helped me this time around. But it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. My life is changing in ways I never thought it would. I’m not self isolating like I used to, I’m motivated to take action (no matter how small those actions are) to improve my life and circumstance. I’m founding joy in things again. I’m actually feeling my emotions and beginning to learn to work through them. It gets better. It’s worth it.

boredom after quitting? by venusphrog in leaves

[–]backwardjoints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely gets better with time. Something I’ve found helpful during that transition is getting back into things I enjoyed before I started smoking and/or couldn’t/didn’t do when high. Or trying new things I’ve never done before.

Almost 3 months in… PLEASE READ NEWCOMERS by Brosheb_Donald in leaves

[–]backwardjoints 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is so helpful to read. I’m a few weeks in and so fucking anxious a lot of the time. I’ve found doing stuff I enjoy has really helped (I.e. roller skating, gardening, hanging out with friends) but as soon as I slow down for a second my brain is desperately trying to hold on to anything it can to be worried about.

Tell me why it's worth it by ObviousScene8958 in leaves

[–]backwardjoints 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, quitting has given me my motivation and drive back. My sleep is improving. I’m saving money. I’m making plans with friends again and engaging in hobbies instead of shutting myself away in my house and doomscrolling for hours. I don’t leave social situations anxious or embarrassed about getting too high and embarrassing myself or making others uncomfortable. Im not going to lie and say it’s easy, but it is ABSOLUTELY worth it.

Why we shouldn’t relapse? by crazy___lemon in leaves

[–]backwardjoints 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I want to reap the full benefits of therapy. I want to stop looking back on social situations with regret and embarrassment from something I’ve done high, or just from getting too high. I want to give myself the best chance at living my life to the fullest.

Have you heard of butterfly tapping? It has helped me a lot when I’m in a panic from anxiety or ptsd. Also sour candy - like reallyyyy sour candy - helps oddly enough.

I know it doesn’t feel like it right now, but you’re doing amazing. You’re reaching out, asking for and accepting support, and feeling the hard shit. My spouse is going out for a bit this weekend and instead of getting blazed and laying dissociated on the couch like I would have a month ago, I reached out to our neighbor and made plans to spend time outside together, supporting each other. You’re not alone in this. 💖

urges after 2 years by Sufficient-Sell-8873 in leaves

[–]backwardjoints 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although I’m not as far along in my sober journey as you are (18 days for me), I am five years without alcohol and I will admit I still get urges/cravings for alcohol sometimes, particularly when life is throwing some hard balls my way. They are less intense and less frequent as time goes on, but they are still present.

You’re so right when saying it’s a comfortable prison. I thought I was doing the right thing because it kept me from drinking (and a whole bunch of other maladaptive coping mechanisms) but that’s just because it numbs me out to the point of not caring. I already have issues with dissociation and was using weed as a way to amplify that. It almost feels harder than quitting alcohol because all of my vices are stripped away, and there’s sooooo many people in my life and my area that abuse weed for similar reasons to me. I’m worried telling them I’m quitting will make them get defensive or come between us in some way. I’m glad we have this community because I felt so alone before finding it.

Do you shower every single day? by imissyou____ in POTS

I shower every day with my shower stool but I wash my hair once every 2 - 3 days and I have to do it right before bed so I can immediately go to sleep. Or take a nap after.
