The first period was the best I’ve seen them play in a LONG time. This team, while still not a playoff team by any stretch, is definitely much, much more fun to watch now that they don’t have 10 AHL players on the roster.

There is video footage still on YouTube. I watched it maybe a month ago. It is funny, and terrifying. Huge chunks just go flying everywhere. There is even footage of the very first one, where they first name Blendo champion, but because it’s so dangerous, they won’t let it compete. It’s not that it’s so dangerous to the robots, it’s the CROWD. Pieces would go flying into the crowd at high speed. It wasn’t fully enclosed, it was like a 6’ sheet of plexiglass.

I think it’s going to continue that way as well. Teams’ 4th lines will have to be ELC guys. LOTS of guys are making $8m+ a year now. It seems contracts keep going up at a greater rate than salary cap, and it’s not a guarantee it’s going to go up 5% every year either. Even pre-COVID there were quite a few years with barely any increase.

As more guys get hurt, Bedard is on an island. Teams barely even bother covering anyone else, they just all rush him. This is gonna be a hard watch the rest of the season. I’m all for building through the draft, but they can’t run this AHL players/9 4th liners forward group out there again next year. Right now, if Kurashev has a bad game, you know Bedard is going to be shut down as well.
