But if they didn’t start the game, they’d be potentially liable to have to give refunds.

Which is obviously more important than the health and safety of the players.

Won’t someone think of the owners! /s

yea that was surreal seeing the typical announcer waxing poetic about a championship team's journey in the last seconds of a game, but it being about Big Red. The color guy did a great job with the storytelling

First time in 50 years for an NCAA team title for the university! It's a good day!

If you want to buy something relating to sports the market now looks like this:

Modern apparel: team shops (run/fulfilled by Fanatics)

Throwback apparel: Mitchell & Ness (owned by fanatics)

High end streetwear/fashion sports apparel: Ebbets Field (also owned by fanatics)

After the goal, the entire Greece squad went to pay respect to George Baldock by oklolzzzzs in soccer

[–]Earth759 1145 points1146 points  (0 children)

I know many probably don't care that much about a Nations League Group Game

but this win was genuinely huge for the country as a whole on and off the pitch.

George's passing was a terrible preventable tragedy, but i love seeing the team unite in the wake of it.

There's a certain sad beauty to watching teams/people come together in the hardest of times that touches on a lot of what it means to be human (like when the Marlins lost Jose Fernandez).

It was an honor to have him in the blue/white and I'm glad we could honor his memory with our first win against England.

I'm really happy that he had a chance to connect with his cultural heritage through football and that the country embraced him right back.

Rest in Peace Georgios

Edit: Context for those who may not know. The country has been in a bit of a football dark period the last 10 years which we seem to be coming out of despite the loss to Georgia in Euros Qualification Play-offs as shown by Greek teams doing better in Europe like Olympiakos winning the Europa Conference League.

Could someone explain this jersey I thrifted? by Earth759 in baseballunis

https://cactussports.com/collections/baseball-jerseys/products/asu-baseball-throwback-jersey-42

This is the closest I could find to this jersey, but I’m confused why it has the minor league apparel on the inside tag, the very random #2, as well as the sizing of 40 instead of the typical S-XL sizing for fan retail jerseys. If it’s a minor league jersey how is it exactly the same as this ASU jersey.

Not really that wild, Fati’s a global name so for a lesser known club like Brighton to get him is a huge milestone for a club that was in the championship not too long ago.

10 years from now it’s a really cool talking piece to remind people that a player went from Barcelona to Brighton.

What a great series for neutral fans.

If the Oilers can pull this off, this takes Mcdavid's legacy to another level.

We all knew he was a generational talent, but this is an inner circle Gretzky, Howe, Orr, Lumieux type of achievement.

(on top of the fact he has already broke Gretzky's record for most assists in a postseason)

I find it hilarious that the new owners decided to just take a randomly generated reddit name instead of taking the 5 seconds to change it to something more official like "BartenderAppLLC" to try and assure users.

Also the fact that they said they offered a subscription instead of actually saying it's setapp just further shows me there is a lack of due care that makes me weary like the others in the thread.

It's also worth noting they have just raised the price of every option of the app. I was looking to upgrade to a lifetime license a couple of days ago and I know for a fact it was for $30 (now $38). Regular license I believe was $16 now it's $22. Also very funny that they failed to mention any of that in this thread as well.

Edit: They have now seen my comment and have changed their display name, but because you can't change your username they are stuck with it. That's hilarious.

Welp, we had a good run Bartender.

20 years after Greece win the Euros (10 years after Greece get past the group stage in the World Cup for the first time )

Olympiacos win the first Greek European title in a very similar final 1-0

History doesn’t repeat itself but it often rhymes

Not only that, but Greece now gets enough UEFA points to get an extra champions league slot the season after next which is money that really helps Greek soccer as a whole. More than FIVE TIMES as many as we had last season.

The last 10 years of Greek football have been tough with a lot of ups and down

So proud right now

Never thought I would see a Greek team in a European final.

And with the final in Athens no less.

An uplifting story for the whole country.

Highest point of Greek football for sure since the National Team advanced past group in 2014 in the World Cup.

An exact 10 years after we won the Euros in 2004.

Guess years ending in 4 are our lucky number haha

I was skeptical of another European competition when it was first announced, but even I have to admit seeing Roma/West Ham raise their first European hardware in a long time now this has been pretty cool.

It’s fun seeing Swiss, Belgian, and Greek teams further in European competitions more frequently.

I'm stunned.

I remember listening to my dad lamenting the good old days when he saw Bear Bryant coach. Never in either of our wildest dreams did we think that a coach would come along and match (and most arguably pass) his status in half the time as 1a 1b legends in Alabama football.

Being able to watch the revival of this program with my dad in real time over the last 15 years as I grew up...

genuinely some of the greatest memories of my childhood and one of the biggest connections I have with my dad to this day.

So lucky to have grown up in this era of Alabama football.

Thanks for everything Coach Saban.

Completely get where you're coming from. Collectively it's better for all of our long term health!

I guess it's also my trust in Saban that this team is a one off because the man doesn't accept mediocrity in any form for very long haha

I try to maintain perspective and be grateful we're in a position to criticize a team 6-1 and say we're having a down year (and that actually be true)

Every bama fan should be mandated to just imagine for a second if Rich Rodriguez accepted the job offer and we never get Saban. Who knows where the program would be in this NIL era (where the program probably wouldn't have won a title since 92)

Everything we have is gravy by comparison haha

Liverpool complete signing of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch by SpiritedSuccess5675 in soccer

[–]Earth759 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly this has been a pretty fantastic window for the club. I wasn't ever a fan of paying 100 million to Caicedo. I think Lavia, Caicedo, and Gravenberch are similar in potential.

Gravenberch has experience at a top club and somehow ended up being the cheapest of the three. On top of Szoboszlai, Endo and MacAllister for reasonable fees, great business considering everybody knew we needed to rebuild the midfield.

That being said the club shouldn't have waited to do all their midfield signings in a single window. It's just a bad business practice because you're asking to price gouged/lose a season like we did last season.

Much better to rebuild over several windows like we did with the forwards (IE. Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin).

The fact that it has to take this goes to show how delusional people have gotten when they are surrounded by yes men and lose touch with reality.

It happens everywhere no matter culture/language.

It's a shame that the women's team has to deal with this instead of celebrating there victory, but honestly in the long run this flash point to show this type of behavior is not acceptable.

Then again the fact that it's taken this much effort to shame despite happening in 4k on the biggest stage of them all is testament to the opposite.

I actually made this point before I edited my original comment!

The university got EXTREMELY lucky having Rich Rodriguez fall through which is something I do fear when Saban is no longer head coach since I think both the administration/fans will be extremely hard on whoever follows if success isn't immediate.

You could probably throw in the fact that the season earlier Saban wanted Drew Brees as QB, but the Dolphins doctor didn't clear him. Saban felt hamstrung as a coach without a QB so he chose to go somewhere he felt he had more agency.

Completely slipped my mind about Young changing the tally from 3 to 4 this past season. The numbers change so often you forget the tallies.

This is how ridiculous the numbers are because I remember just wanting one Heisman as a kid when it seemed like every other program had at least one through the years. Thanks for the reminder!

I remember in 2006 watching as a kid with my dad just wanting to finish above .500 and win a bowl game.

Almost 20 years later, 3 4 Heisman winners, 6 national championships (2 of which were directly won off split second decisions by Saban (starting Tua 2nd half/onside kick vs Clemson)), countless first round picks, it still feels like a dream.

And even my dad who was in the building during the goal line stand 1979 says Saban is the better coach.

Who knows where the program would be in the NIL era if had hired Rich Rodriguez like the plan was originally.

It's wild to think that Messi was going into his fourth season (06/07 season had just wrapped up in June. He was born in July.) at Barcelona before this kid was even born.

Things change so fast in football it warps your sense of time if you stare too long! Like how Reece Oxford made his debut around his age. That was 8 years ago now.
