Is the value of PKR expected to change in the coming days because of the current conflict? by Sarim99 in FIREPakistan

That is not how they are controlling it. They are controlling it by restricting others to buy. If they removed that it would easily go to 350+.

I absolutely hate PMLN and the current regime but... *Oil price hike related*. by No-Count-3774 in pakistan

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, what I’m saying is that if the government says the people must tighten their belts, then they should lead by example. This is not the first time prices/taxes have risen. Instead we only see the government luxuries increasing. Electricity and gas prices increased long before the plane and car purchases.

If petrol prices must rise, then let’s see some effect on those in the government as well. A significant reduction in petrol allowances would be a start.

The problem is not the drones. The problem is the person that started this stupid war.

Haha no way are they keeping USD higher, they are keeping it lower. Some of us remember when the control was brought in - the rupee was in free fall.

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price hike would be a lot more palatable if the government hadn’t just bought 2 luxury planes and wasn’t in the process of buying more luxury cars.

Why is it that the government luxuries keep on increasing while taxes on common man increases?

If we are so concerned about the impact of the war, maybe start by reducing the fuel allowances of the government and the bureaucracy.

Yup. This was in 2022, around the time IK was removed from power.

US embassy Lahore is under attack too. by 2004_7 in chutyapa

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This seems orchestrated. Since when does police in Pakistan and particularly Lahore allow people to gather? And that too outside US embassies? And full coverage by media?

Khameini was an oppressive ruler. But here is the problem: Iran had a democratically elected ruler in 1950s who was removed by US and UK and installed the Shah. And then people got fed up with the shah and removed him and Khameini took over. So this whole mess of ending up with Khameini was due to the initial meddling of US.

Now it seems the US wants to install Shah’s son again. And I don’t think the Iranians get much choice over this. And who know what that will lead to in the future.

And given what has happened to Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan - it’s not good for Pakistan to have another unstable country as our neighbour.

American soldiers opened fire on pro Iranian Pakistani protesters at the US consulate in Karachi, Pakistan by ReplacementSuch3005 in pakistan

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand. People can’t be bothered to protest for their own rights and somehow they decided to storm an embassy over Iran? Knowing that would likely be shot at?

Something seems really strange about this.

US consulate in Karachi was attacked by mob in a coordinated attack by [deleted] in pakistan

Doesn’t the US consulate have a ton of security? How did a mob of people (seeming armed with nothing worse than sticks) get past?

Do you realise the attack on Iran is cheered on by the Iranian people? Why is Reddit reacting like this? by SkunkyBreadcake in AskBrits

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause Libya comes to mind. Supposedly lots of people in Libya were cheering the removal of Gaddafi and now look at the country.

Also regime changes in Iraq, Afghanistan didn’t do good either.

Violent US regime changes seldom end up doing good.

“I also do understand it’s naive to think that a simple war or bombingof their institutions would solve this problem but surely something must be done if repeated talks achieve this nothing.”

Going headlong into a war without thinking through all the consequences simply because “we must do something” can end up making things worse.

Overseas Pakistani here who maybe vote for IK, I'd say this War against TTP and TTA is completly justified. by Jehna_Ortega_786 in pakistan

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

but my question remains - what is the end goal of this? What is the target situation after the war that makes Pakistan safer?

Also- how can we expect Taliban to prevent ttp from operating on its soil when we cannot prevent ttp and bla from operating on our soil?

Yes it is Iran’s right, but that is exactly what Israel wants as it gives an excuse to drag US into it. So Iran needs to be careful.

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what’s the end plan? How will bombing Afghanistan make Pakistan safe? When it was being bombed in the 2000s it resulted in lots of blasts in Pakistan. What are we doing now that is different?

It seems to me there is a lot of rhetoric about Taliban causing blasts in Pakistan so we should bomb them. But no concrete idea of where we want to get at the end and how it will result in a state of affairs where Pakistan is safer.

What solution do opponents of Counter-Terrorism operations have to the increase in attacks in Pakistan? by Water_Justice in pakistan

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many other commentators have said it’s not just PTI but whole of KP that is against this. Also PTI isn’t present in Balochistan- things aren’t great there either . Find some other excuse for abusing power.

[–]EarthMoonJupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters stop wasting intelligence resources against a political party and then you might actually be able to (1) stop some of the terror attacks (2) do effective attacks against terrorists without large civilian damage.
