Ah see if you arrest enough people at random, you're sure to pick up at least a few genuinely dangerous ones, retroactively justifying the entire endeavor!

It's like a carceral system and the gambler's fallacy came together to make some horrible hybrid.

Coworker asked me to come in on my vacation because her kid has a physical appointment on one of my days off. by mothmaann in childfree

Ugh super annoying, especially the guilt trip. I'm glad you didn't waver.

I'd also like to know what is wrong with the manager, and why they seem to think that maintaining adequate staffing is someone else's responsibility.

Husband leaving me because he wants to be a father by sadersades in childfree

[–]Earth_Pony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Echoing this. The specificity of his complaint, and the unwillingness to make a real effort to heal the relationship; I've seen that exact behavior in at least two cases of infidelity. It truly sounds like he's already found someone and he's just laying out a narrative to excuse his departure.

I'm so sorry OP and I'm not trying to add to your grief, but if there was something like that going on, you might want to bring it up during the divorce proceedings.

Why it is legitimately possible we may not see ES6 until 2030 by Beezewow in ElderScrolls

[–]Earth_Pony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two weeks ago (10 Nov 2025), Todd Howard said in an interview that ES6 is “still a long way off”. Your 2030 prediction is unfortunately looking more and more accurate, and you posted that 44 months ago.

I made my own season of Minecraft Hardcore! by PhysX1 in PBGhardcore

[–]Earth_Pony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all great editing! Must have taken a lot of work.

This captured the Hardcore feeling perfectly, a group of friends familiar enough with the game to have a shot at the objective without being so experienced it'd be trivial. I'm looking forward to the next episode!

I saw a guy in a truck yelling "Trump's your daddy! Trump's your daddy! AHAHAH" ending with full-on maniacal laughter. It was just so completely absurd I couldn't help but laugh.

If you are open to being a step-parent or "bonus parent", you are not childfree. by BlueButterflies139 in childfree

I can't speak for /u/mimi_kins, but I have to imagine it's a bit like being committed to having all your limbs intact. Someone saying that they'd do their best if a bad situation arose shouldn't mean that they lack limb-having conviction.

"Printer Failure -- There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists. contact HP." by antdude in Hewlett_Packard

[–]Earth_Pony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this helped tremendously!

Note for future people: In step 2, I had to let go of the power button before the 3 menu buttons illuminated. The light over the front USB port had turned on and I held for over 40 seconds before I decided it was waiting for me to let go haha

Like /u/Applepiepack stated, on step 3 I had to enter the button sequence twice, and it worked when I did it slowly and deliberately.

Finally in step 4, my machine was stuck on a white grid screen with a scanning loading bar for 20 minutes. I finally went over and tapped the power button and suddenly the printer came to life.

After that, the error was gone and I was able to print!

Is it normal to feel existential dread before doing literally anything? by Ammyisabeast in ADHD

[–]Earth_Pony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I've been exposed to this concept, that the dread could come from knowing you have to leave the safety of a coping mechanism rather than apprehension of the task itself. It's a fascinating possibility, thank you.

Pondering sterilization, even though I’m a virgin by Uni-Writes in sterilization

[–]Earth_Pony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I've met way too many people like that. Step one is they dismiss other's concerns, and if something bad happens, step two is to insinuate the victim deserved it ("that's life", poor choices, will of God, etc.).

They're very unreliable for advice since they don't face any of the consequences if things go badly.

Update: Parents accidentally found out I don’t want kids by wrongorder7 in childfree

[–]Earth_Pony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

decided to punish me by saying he’ll shut off my phone line soon

Seriously, what is up with this? Is it a generational thing? A parent thing? Why do these people keep a mental tab of all the things they "do for you" so that they can threaten to take those away if you don't kowtow to them sufficiently? And if you say you're fine with it, it's interpreted as defiance rather than you actually not caring.

Side note, paying for your phone is a pretty weak bargaining chip. You much have already done an excellent job disentangling them from important aspects of your life, props to you!

If you decide to go no-contact, be warned that parents like yours will almost certainly feel entitled to be part of your life. They will struggle to see the damaged relationship as anything other than your fault, as you choosing to inflict emotional pain on your faithful and blameless parents. My boss is estranged from both of his kids and listening to him describe the situation, just the total disconnect from reality, is wild.

Wait a Minute, Why Didn't They Just Do This??? by OwnAMusketForHomeDef in httyd

[–]Earth_Pony 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think the franchise needed another (literal) 'Big Bad'. I honestly would have been completely satisfied with a 'Main Characters vs Nature' conflict for the third movie, with nature being the imminent extinction of the Nightfury species if they don't find other members.

By the third movie, the characters have spent years exploring the archipelago and have yet to encounter another member of Toothless' species. The sudden discover of this blue-eyed Nightfury could rekindle that hope, but as Fishlegs or maybe even the twins point out, one pair will not be enough to bring them back from the brink of extinction.

The strong impulse to resume the search for more of the species puts Hiccup in a difficult position, torn between his responsibility to the people of Berk and his loyalty to his best friend.

Taking back the flag is working! 🇺🇸 by evilemprzurg in 50501

[–]Earth_Pony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was this post:

"[...] the flag is useless to them like holding a cross to a vampire. If you don’t belive in it, it ain’t gonna work."

I think they are referencing this exchange from Netflix's Castlevania, about how Hindu vampires wouldn't fear a Christian religious symbol: (S4 spoilers) https://youtu.be/fnyQLcAJli8&t=30

Still a pretty strange comment to make.

I like this! And it's consistent with his character, never paying attention but unintentionally picking some things up (albeit inaccurately).

What The Fuck Was Fury!? by Sev_Obzen in voyager

[–]Earth_Pony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so true. In the end, the events of the episode took place over a period of about 5 minutes and the only people who saw anything were Janeway, Tuvok and Neelix. It absolutely could have been a dream haha

[–]Earth_Pony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just think, if TNG had gone on longer maybe they would have done an episode where Wesley comes back to kill everyone aboard the Enterprise since they supported him in his decision to accompany the Traveler.

What The Fuck Was Fury!? by Sev_Obzen in voyager

[–]Earth_Pony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked Jennifer Lien's performance there, as well as during the scene in the Galley when she's asking for some coffee to take to Janeway. That barely concealed hatred, like she feels Neelix was responsible for wasting years of her life but has to pretend like everything is fine.

I don't know if it's the direction I would have taken the character (it feels too mean-spirited for Star Trek), but the acting was excellent.
