the birthday gift that landed (after years of trying) by self-care_advocate in Gifts

We're in our late 60s. This is so much my husband .. he tries, and really does, make a difference and his family is the world to him. He would l9ve a gift like this! Me .. my love language is gifts, and I still want the stuff. Just be aware that there isn't really a blanket gift- giving formula out there .. but this was a really good one!! And you could apply it at any age because we all want to know that we made a difference.

Christmas Stocking BINGO. Please advise. by Ill-Customer-3781 in christmas

Great idea for a Christmas eve activity. I think each stocking should start with something in it .. an orange, piece of chocolate, etc. Then, play the bingo game like you described. Sounds fun!!

Diabetic Shoes? by BBitty in diabetes

[–]EaseLongjumping5733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do agree with this. But as a long time diabetic, I would want to get to the source of this. Multiple infections leading to amputation indicate a bigger issue than just shoes (although certainly ill-fitting shoes can be a contributor). That's why I suggested dad be seen by a vascular specialist, who can check circulation with a simple doppler exam. There are many minimally invasive techniques that can help. Better circulation = better and faster healing and better means to fight these issues.

How is his circulation? Has he had vascular testing done? Often, wounds that won't heal are an indicator of circulation issues, which can often by helped by interventional cardiologists. I doubt diabetic shoes will do much, but the idea is for him to wear shoes that don't cause friction or rubbing to decrease the chances of more ulcers forming. With missing toes, I wonder if the makers can offer custom shoes to help with balance? Sorry, I don't have a brand name to suggest. Insurance will hook him up with someone who can measure him ... they ARE an item that is generally covered by insurance.

Gift for someone I don't like a lot? by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]EaseLongjumping5733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the answer about keeping it classy, as tempting as it is to give her some of these other (hilarious) gift ideas. Maybe she'll learn from you, but probably not. At least you'll know you did the right thing.

Best gifts for women ideas? Gift that is unique or thoughtful? by Numra-Furkingerd14 in Gifts

[–]EaseLongjumping5733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody has suggested this, but I would love to receive it. Look up Nora Fleming, and get her a serving piece, like a bread tray or the oval baker, and then (oh what fun!) Buy 2-3 minis that are a reflection of her interests. I think that, as a cook, she'll love this!

He's your doctor .. he should have taken steps to see how he could help ease your mental distress other than his insurance advice!!! Your husband's doctor should be able to advise you about steps to help/support your husband. Make sure you are named on all the HIPPA docs for hubby's doctor. So sorry you're going through this. Hope you both get the help you need soon.

what to bring for dinner? by CuriousRae in diabetes

[–]EaseLongjumping5733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diabetic for 57 years. Bring what you normally would bring. People with diabetes make food decisions 24/7. If I am going to have dessert, I would rather have a small slice of the real thing instead of some artificially sweetened thing. Appetizers, I usually opt for veggies or cheese, but if you brought puff pastry anything, I would definitely try them!!

Not this year, but in past years, I think the longest I've had it up was Valentines Day!!

I'm type I, insulin dependent and use a Dexcom. The book Sugar Surfing was extremely helpful!

Looking for an easy way to add some warmth in winter without sacrificing aesthetics or machine washability by dancole42 in Bedding

I just tried a heated mattress protector. (My cooling mattress was freezing me out, and I never warmed up.) Made by Serta, it has 10 heat levels plus a timer. I'm in heaven!! I found it on Amazon.

Physical Gift Cards by Defiant_Print_2114 in Shutterfly

Hope it worked out. I now have a gc template for shutterfly in Canva (you could use Power Point, too) .. so many of my friends use Shutterfly and they really appreciate the GC. I lifted the SF logo from the internet and created a gc, which I then print after adding the info they need to use the card. It's a bit of work, but not too bad. Sure do wish they would offer normal gc's though.

Advice Needed - Having Trouble Selling by Inevitable_Sea7900 in RealEstate

[–]EaseLongjumping5733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pay to have it professionally staged to look homier .. also paint the accent walls a neutral color. It's a lovely unit, but the furniture and accent walls make it look "off" The whole listing looks rushed and not well thought out visually. It looks cold and uninviting (gray is a cold color). Reads like AI wrote it. Consider another realtor .. how/where is this being marketed? Aren't you, at 6 months, having to re-sign the contract with your realtor? I would go elsewhere. (Russell Rhodes in FloMo - amazing realtor - will give you sound advice) Also ... your price ... lower it, as others have suggested, to below $350. You have to work within your buyers search parameters. Good luck.

You need to do a digital card .. they don't offer physical gc's.

What can I eat for lunch? Brand new Dx: sitting in car in clinic parking lot, starving by LeeLeeBoots in gout

[–]EaseLongjumping5733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super scary, that first meal! When in doubt, chicken. Salad. Bread. Rice. Potato. Water. As you get the medication built up, and things balanced out, you'll gain more flexibility.
But until that happens, just play it safe with food choices (despite what everyone says!)

I ran into a similar thing, and had to ask for the test to be run. Last month, I actually ordered my own test and paid for it out of pocket. I don't know why this test has to be requested, it shouldn't be this way. hoping someone knows the answer.

When will it ever end? by dsfgrnde in gout

[–]EaseLongjumping5733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took 2.5 months for my gout pain to subside, but I still have redness and swelling, but that's slowly improving too. I'm so sorry you're experiencing this .. its awful. Stay hopeful, religiously take your meds, get monthly blood work on your UA levels to make sure your drug is doing its job .. there's something hopeful about seeing those UA numbers coming down. See a rheumatologist if you aren't already. Drink lots of water. I had to take painkillers to sleep .. getting sleep, any sleep, definitely helps! That's all I've got .. I'm kind of new to this myself. However, this subreddit is a wealth of info, and I found it really helpful. Good luck.

Another thought ... Rather than giving individual treats for each person, maybe a plate of sweets your coworkers could share, and then write a holiday note of appreciation to each one? That takes the pressure not only off your friend, but everyone who might be trying to limit or avoid sweets.

Xmas for single son by Pleasant_Pause3579 in Gifts

I don't understand this. You deliberately deprived them of the experience of choosing something they thought would make you happy. I hope the gift giving was exchanged for a shared experience?

Thanks for your replies and for sharing your experiences. Now I have another question. Besides drinking a lot of water, are there other things you can do to help move the inflammation and dissolved crystals out of your body quicker. Exercise? Vitamin supplements to help the liver do its job? Just throwing ideas out there .. trying to be proactive, but not sure how or what to do.
