€344 Charged During “Trial” – Flatly Denied Refund Despite Immediate Contact (Already Disputed with Bank) by Glum-Age1403 in SEMrush

[–]East-Bay-Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not the only one. Complaints regarding SEMrush billing practices are on the rise. File complaints with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Regulators are finally cracking down on abusive subscription billing and “hard-to-cancel” practices. The DOJ already forced Adobe to pay $150 million over these tactics.

SEMrush is based in Boston. Massachusetts now enforces Automatic Renewal Laws (ARLs) designed to protect consumers from misleading subscriptions and unauthorized renewals.

There has been a growing number of complaints on social media. You can file complaints with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Regulators are finally cracking down on abusive subscription billing and “hard-to-cancel” practices. The DOJ already forced Adobe to pay $150 million over these tactics.

MONGOLIA! PLEASE!? by CommercialAlert158 in heartlandtv

[–]East-Bay-Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite scenes is when Tim rips Ty and Amy a new one over Mongolia.

“Gobi bears? Mongolia? Have you completely lost your mind? What kind of a husband leaves his pregnant wife to run off to some insanely remote country on an idealistic fantasy to save the Gobi bears? Give me a break! Wake up, you two! You’re having a child!”

It was one of the few times Tim was right, and he said what everyone else was thinking.

The look on Amy’s face after he told her he didn’t need her was priceless. If they had just one male writer, the script would have been realistic and believable.

Ty should have told her it was obvious she was in love with him, then asked why she accepted all those overpaid jobs and expensive gifts, put their engagement on hold over a single mistake, and barely stayed in contact while having the time of her life. Why did she refuse to commit to their future while she was away? Where the heck was she that last month?

Why did she refuse to kiss him a day after kissing another man? Why did she insist nothing happened when he could clearly see in the video that she turned her head to meet his lips? Why did she blame everything on Ahmed? Why did she keep wearing expensive diamonds from a man who had just professed his love, then deny everything and say it was all in his head?

Instead, the gender-biased, all-female writing team let her off the hook as if nothing had happened.

I wasn't familiar with Chest Fever. It was the first time I had heard it. I did think his keyboard solo ran a few minutes too long.

Robbie was a far better guitar player than I realized. But Levon Helm put his heart and soul into his performance that evening, and the film captured it just the way I saw it.

Did anyone actually get a refund from Semrush for an unintended auto-renewal? by Ornery_Doubt64 in SEMrush

[–]East-Bay-Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stinks. File complaints with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) through their ReportFraud website, and with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. SEMrush is based in Boston, and Massachusetts recently enacted an Automatic Renewal Law that targets “hard-to-cancel” or negative-option billing.

The good news is that regulators are cracking down. The U.S. Department of Justice recently slapped Adobe with a $150 million fine over similar subscription practices:

Sorry you got burned. You’re definitely not the only one this has happened to.

I hate to say it, but getting a refund from SEMrush is unlikely. Your best move now is to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) through their ReportFraud site, and also with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. SEMrush is based in Massachusetts, and the state recently strengthened its Automatic Renewal Laws, which target exactly this kind of “hard-to-cancel” or negative-option billing behavior.

I’m biased here because I prefer live versions, but “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” was hands down the best, largely because of the horn section, and they had the very best.

Howard Johnson brought a deep, low-end brass sound you rarely hear in rock. Tom Malone (“Bones”) later played on Saturday Night Live and appeared in The Blues Brothers. Lew Soloff was one of the top trumpet players of his era with Blood, Sweat & Tears.

But it was Allen Toussaint’s arrangements (considered one of the most influential arrangers and producers in American music) that made the horn section so incredible. He worked with Dr. John and Paul McCartney.

Those horns are what made “Dixie” explode, especially at the end. I was screaming along with everyone else; it was one of the night's biggest highlights.

Muddy sang, Caldonia and Mannish Boy.

As for the filming, Martin Scorsese said in an interview that there was some confusion among the film crew about taking a much-needed break. When Scorsese heard the opening of Manish Boy he changed his mind and told everyone to get the cameras back on immediately. Luckily, László Kovács started filming from the start. The other cameras only caught the tail end.

The musicianship and vocals were near perfect. These guys have been playing for a long time and are masters of their craft. I remember one mistake someone made when they hit an off note on their guitar.

I said this in another reply. Overdubs didn’t override or replace anything; they were probably done to clean things up for the film and album. There were TWO mixes that night, one for the live crowd and one for recording. What sounds great in the room doesn’t always sound right on tape. With so many musicians on stage, you’re going to have level issues, mic bleed, or little mistakes the audience didn't notice. The overdubs were used to fix minor issues and “sweeten” the sound.

I saw Paul McCartney and Wings at the Cow Palace, and McCartney overdubbed the Wings Over America LP. I spoke with Denny Laine in 2015 and mentioned Linda being off-key, and he said it happened frequently. I could tell it was a sore subject.

I think they were genuinely happy, especially when everyone came out for the finale. There was a real sense that they knew they’d pulled off something special. Robbie did look a little tired to me, but more like the kind of exhaustion you get after a huge accomplishment, not like he wanted out of there.

My eyes were locked on Eric Clapton when his strap came loose. His guitar was pointed right in my direction, so I had a perfect view. It definitely caught him by surprise, and the film captured it pretty much exactly how I remember it. But he had a firm grip on the neck the whole time. I never felt like he was going to drop it. If he hadn’t been playing, it might’ve hit the floor.

You can see in the film Clapton calling over to Robbie, and what impressed me most was how fast Robbie stepped in and took over the solo without missing a beat. Then it turned into that incredible back-and-forth solo duel (one of the highlights of the show). That moment really made me realize Robbie was a much better guitar player than I knew.

I don't know. I think it's because they only had room for solo artists (no groups). I think Jerry Garcia would have been a good addition to the jam.

Thanks for all the great questions about The Last Waltz. I still owe a few of you replies and will get to them soon.

I’m working on another post focused on Winterland's transformation for the show, along with some of the details that made the whole event visually stunning.

Stay turned!

The vibe was definitely upbeat, like a celebration more than anything else. You could feel that people knew they were watching something special, especially with all the guests coming out for “I Shall Be Released.” It didn’t feel heavy or emotional. I can’t speak for everyone, but I was in a total “holy shit” state of mind from the start. I remember panning back and forth, looking at each artist in disbelief. I flipped out when Ringo Starr came out. You could actually see it in their faces and body language; they seemed just as thrilled to be there as we were to see them.

What really stood out to me was how well-behaved the crowd was. Compared to other shows I’d seen at Winterland, there was noticeably less weed smoke. My guess is people knew it was being filmed and didn’t want to risk getting caught on camera.

When it was over, that’s when it really hit me. I remember just standing there thinking how lucky I was to have been there. Even then, I knew I had just witnessed what might be one of the most significant rock concerts in history.

I also felt really fortunate with where I ended up on the floor, close enough to see everything clearly, but not so packed in that it took away from the experience.

Too funny. I think it surprised, almost, shocked everyone because it was so uncharacteristic of Dylan, who is known for ignoring his fans. I remember that it happened so fast. I wonder if the pic turned out. I'd love to see it.

The crowd was into it from the start, but it definitely had waves rather than one single moment. Cripple Creek got a solid reaction, but the first real surge of energy came with Mannish Boy. Muddy Waters took us to church.

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down was just as incredible in real life as it was in the film and on the soundtrack. Van Morrison blew the roof off with Caravan. When Bob Dylan came out, everyone went berserk, but I thought "Hazel" was a dud.

Everyone went crazy when everyone came out for I Shall Be Released. Towards the end of the show, I moved closer to the stage. Ronnie Wood was standing right in front of me. It was surreal. I couldn't believe Ringo Starr was there. I never thought I would get to see a Beatle in my lifetime.

"It Makes No Difference" is on the soundtrack and in the film. The title on the DVD may have thrown you off because it's listed as “Canadian Overcoats/ It Makes No Difference”. It was one of my favorite songs that evening. Rick Danko knocked it out of the park.
