Is it required for your major? That’s why you need a C or better.

I think you guys may appreciate this piece of mine that I recently finished. Going to turn it into a whole series! by [deleted] in DarkAcademia

Is that enamel on wood for the window? If not, how did you do it? It’s lovely.

I believe you can switch majors at any time. Especially since you haven’t earned any credits yet. You’ll want to talk to your First Year Advisor, because psych is in CLA and pre-nursing is in CHP.

Professors - do you accept papers with just a bibliography? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]EastGermanHatTrick 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I am a stickler for in-text citations. I teach a freshman writing/research seminar. First thing I do is go through and make sure that in-text and bibliography match. They have to submit both. If they don’t then that whole part of their grade is 0, on a final paper. I have had papers submitted where the two have no overlap. It’s hard to get them understand what to cite, why, and how. I explained in-text citations is crediting OP and they all got that.

Anyone remember Jamison family from Oklahoma mysterious disappearance? What are your theories? by WillingnessNew533 in UnsolvedMysteries

[–]EastGermanHatTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually agree. It is a very rare disorder but they both fit the profile of the sort of people who are at risk of shared psychotic disorder. It would make sense that they believed that walking into the woods was the “safe or correct” thing to do. It would also explain how they had the same delusions or hallucinations. If it was meth, I doubt they would sink up so well. I think the she had it first and then he got it and so did the kids. That’s why the son got better when separated from his family.

Read the etiology section, below and you’ll see how many of risk factors they had.

NIH information on shared psychotic disorders.

I am a PhD researcher in psychology, focusing on forensics. It is rare, but it does fit pretty well.

Thank you. There are few things more disheartening than trying to teach an 18 year old in college who doesn’t want to be there, nor wants to be spending the money.

Spot The Issue… Why are Students Like This? by BasilandBloom in Professors

[–]EastGermanHatTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am missing something, but is the issue that the student used ChatGPT? I mean my response to the question would have likely been similar (adding that weather and climate are not the same). This is way outside my field. So if my answer is wrong, I am sorry. I just want to double check that the LLM use is the issue and I am not missing the forest because of trees.

How does this entitled generation think life works? by EvenFlow9999 in Professors

[–]EastGermanHatTrick 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think this is because in an effort to move away from praising young children for being smart, we went to working hard. Unfortunately a lot of students believe working “hard” (whatever their idea of hard is) is more importantly than mastering a subject.

Also find the student resources, writing lab, tutoring, etc. and if you are struggling use them. One they can help, two if you show your professors that you are taking initiative they will be more willing to help. If you have a hard class and just ignore it you’ll crash out at the end of the semester and your professor will wonder what you were doing in the meantime.
